ChocLover is that post meant to be serious?

Ohfourfoxache · 07/01/2015 15:31

Might just be me, but does anyone else think it's a bit convenient that there is news that a signing is confirmed on a very, very bad news day? Fully admit that I may be wrong on this, but it looks like a formal announcement was originally scheduled for tomorrow.....

BOFster · 07/01/2015 15:32

Choclover-it was explained to the jury that there is a degree of drunkenness past which it is impossible to give meaningful consent, or for it to be inferred by a reasonable person. On the evidence of video and witness statements, they clearly decided that consent was impossible at the point Evans arrived.

londonrach · 07/01/2015 15:33

Vic sent you a pm.

spence82 · 07/01/2015 15:33

It was originally supposed to be on Monday so I don't think they've been waiting that some serious news story broke just so they could announce it

JohnFarleysRuskin · 07/01/2015 15:33

I don't think its odd at all.

What are you suggesting?

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 15:34

I'm sure they were hoping to bury this announcement amongst the tragic news today.

ChocLover2015 · 07/01/2015 15:34

Yes .I'd like someone to explain in an objective, non-hysterical way.

MaliceInWinterWonderland78 · 07/01/2015 15:35

John if your objection is becasue your child will, simply by virtue of the fact that this ar5ehole can kick a football around a pitch with a certain degree of skill, see CE as a role model - because you haven't taken the time to explain otherwise........then yeah.

My children know pretty clearly my views on TOWIE, anything with "Celebrity" in the title, etc.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 07/01/2015 15:36

ChocLover2015...

In the spirit of being a nice person.

In their own evidence, CE asked CM if he could 'have a go' with the girl. CM said he could. That isn't consent of any kind.

CM was found not guilty, presumably because the jury were not convinced beyond reasonable doubt that he raped the semi conscious girl. Or that CM had reasonable belief in her consent when he stuck his penis in her.

CE was found guilty, presumably because he admitted that he hadn't sought consent from the girl in his police interview and later changed that in his court evidence.

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 15:36

By that I mean that tragic news today has been very convenient for Oldham Athletic and I'm sure it's affected the timing of the announcement.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 07/01/2015 15:37

Really? So you believe they decided to sign him some time ago and were waiting for a terrorist attack or some such?

This kind of talk makes people look a bit daft. IMHO.

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 15:37

Bad timing that johnfarley, xpost i think.

Entirely agree I wouldn't take a child to watch him (wouldnt go myself). My point was that people who say footballers should be role models who have a material influence on the morals of their children are poor parents.

It's inevitable children will dive, scream at referees because they see players doing it. But people should be raising their children not to go out taping because Ched did.

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 15:39

For goodness sake sooty step away from the keyboard. That is the most nonsensical post I've ever read on here, and the bar was set pretty high (probably by me...)

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 15:39

No. I just think it's interesting that the announcement was said to be scheduled for tomorrow yet they've brought it forward.

spence82 · 07/01/2015 15:39

I posted last night that a friend of mine who is a sports journalist had heard that the signing was to be made today. It was already in the pipe line before today's tragedy in france

ChocLover2015 · 07/01/2015 15:39

Hmm. So are we talking about implied consent (as in she didn't say no) in which I think that it is rape.
Or arte we talking about express consent in which she actually says 'yes'. I would argue that someone is responsible for their actions while drunk ie 'drunk consent is still consent'.

UsuallyLurking1 · 07/01/2015 15:40

Edit add fox ache to my post above

ilovesooty · 07/01/2015 15:40

Fair enough spence

If that's the case I stand corrected.

BOFster · 07/01/2015 15:42

You can argue that if you like, but you are wrong in legal terms, Choc. The law recognises their is a big difference between 'a bit drunk' and 'so drunk you are oblivious' in layman's terms, as the Judge directed the jury.

Ohfourfoxache · 07/01/2015 15:42

I'm actually oddly relieved by that, Spence - thank you

Football players aren't role models for my children, but when we go to football, we cheer and applaud our teams. I don't want them to be cheering and applauding a rapist. Can't you understand that?
(And neither do I want them to join in the chants that will be hurled at him by opposing teams.)

grovel · 07/01/2015 15:44

ChocLover2015, I think BOFster explained it well.

I think a lot of (decent) men are having a hard time getting their head around the ramifications. Historically they have used the rule that "Yes means Yes and No means No". They are going to need to finesse their approach.

ChocLover2015 · 07/01/2015 15:46

Ah ok, offering his friend to 'have a go' is obviously not her consenting!!.I thought they both stated that she had said 'yes' but as I say I didn't follow it that closely.
