Actually I don't believe I am being unreasonable. But wanted to bring it to attention.

MN seems to be a quiet on this today but I think the fight should still go on. I can't link to it as I am so not tech savvy enough but it is on change.org. (Same person whk set up the Sheffield Weds one so of you sogned that one it is pretty easy to locate).Already has over 9000 signatures so please please please continue to sign and share!

Sabrina and Linerinner - I think we all agree, but my point is that it is dangerous to imply that this case was "cut and dried" or in anyway straightforward. It is clear that many people who are reading this have not read the judgement from the court of appeal case or any other presentation of the facts.

ghostyslovesheep · 05/01/2015 18:58

house she didn't profit from being raped - she was compensated for being raped - jesus there is a bit of a difference!

women don't report rape for money - she wanted recognition that she was raped - some acknowledgement that it happened and she was right - this is why she took a civil route

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 05/01/2015 18:59

What the fuck has George Michael got to do with any of this?

He's never been done for rape FFS.
And he's definitely never been accused of pimping children where the hell did that come from.

Revolting comparison to draw and pretty random accusations TBH.

Why would anyone draw a direct comparison between a legal sex act and rape? I mean god loads of people have consensual sex in inappropriate places - and it's illegal - but it's not on a par with rape for crying out loud. Anyone who doesn't understand that has pretty iffy ideas about sex IMO.

sorry House it read like you where saying just that - I apologise for misinterpreting your posts

Good rant, though Losty. Well said.

iamtheeggman · 05/01/2015 19:04

There is the counterexample of the lady who alleged she was raped by Neil and Christine Hamilton. She was lying and was seeking profit. That is an extreme example and I am in no way suggesting it is comparable to the CE case, but it did happen.

"Web Applications UK have issued a statement indicating that they will continue to sponsor the club regardless of whether it signs Evans. You can reply to it on their twitter account."

Does anyone know how to get in touch with that lizard group, I may have found them something worth while to do.

No, eggman, I don't agree with you actually. But thanks for assuming that I do. Hmm

AuntieStella · 05/01/2015 19:15

"That is an extreme example and I am in no way suggesting it is comparable to the CE case, but it did happen."

Of course not. For it did not result in a conviction at all against the Hamiltons, let alone one reviewed twice on appeal and found sound. The accuser was convicted and jailed though.

Andrewofgg · 05/01/2015 19:17

Malice the jury were obviously not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt about the other man; the circumstances were different in his case and they must have believed that he might reasonably have believed that he had her consent. Perhaps he was fortunate but there it is; he is not a convicted rapist and Evans is. And therefore should not play professional football for all the reasons which have been explained ad nauseam on this and other threads.

The clubs partners.

Loads of them but the easiest to effect are probably: Sports Direct , Nandos, o2, Mecca, Fosters and Kia.

Line runner - thanks for the chippy response. I said "I think" we all agree, I assumed nothing. And if you think the CE/CM case was in anyway straightforward all that CE's guilt was in anyway a foregone conclusion, you're just plain wrong.

And suddenly the goalposts are being moved on the point I raised about the Hamilton case. Previously people saying they were not aware of any cases of people alleging rape to make profit. There is at least one. let's acknowledge that and move on.

ILovePud · 05/01/2015 19:35

It's depressing that several clubs have offering this man a contract. I hope others now understand the strength of feeling on this issue and don't go down this road. I think sponsors are the way to go as in my view it's when they have threatened to withdraw that the clubs get cold feet. Sponsors back football clubs because they think it will bring positive associations with their brands. What kind of association would it bring to the brand to have an unrepentant rapist grinning for the press with their company logo emblazoned on his chest?

AuntieStella · 05/01/2015 19:38

The thing I found depressing about Web Applications Ltd's statement is that someone representing a company conflated 'right to work' with 'right to a specific post in a specific organisation'

Don't these people have anyone proof reading statements before they go public with basic errors?

ghostyslovesheep · 05/01/2015 19:39

slightly distracting to focus on that one though - given the number of women who are raped

Ghosty - i'm not focusing on anything. And I said the case was rare and unusual. I was simply replying to this:

"Today 18:47 YonicSleighdriver

Yy Sabrina.

I'm still not aware of anyone who made masses of cash out of a rape claim, but y'know, the myth persists."
