Actually I don't believe I am being unreasonable. But wanted to bring it to attention.

MN seems to be a quiet on this today but I think the fight should still go on. I can't link to it as I am so not tech savvy enough but it is on change.org. (Same person whk set up the Sheffield Weds one so of you sogned that one it is pretty easy to locate).Already has over 9000 signatures so please please please continue to sign and share!

Apparently many 'Young lads' see CE as somebody who was just unlucky to have sex with the wrong kind of slag and are too ignorant to understand why he was convicted.

They don't think he is david beckham - they think he is somebody in the public eye who should have got away with it because some women are just tarts and cock teasers.

Whether or not he would have received less critiscism were it not for the website or the victim shaming or the spreading of rape myths is all academic - he was convicted of rape on the facts, does not think he did anything wrong and his only 'defence' has been harassment of the victim.

Endorsement of CE by professional football is endorsement of all the neanderthals who share his point of view.

iamtheeggman · 05/01/2015 17:48

Housewhere and Yonic I strongly suspect that's not what she meant, but that is what I inferred from what she said:

"Egg man, if a 6ft tall brickie had said in court that they could've had any woman in a club because they were tall, yes, I'd be very worried about their concept of consent."

Do you mean more worried than if a 6ft tall, rich footballer said it?

I know that's not what you mean, but my point is that it is dangerous to make any generalisation about footballers in the context of the case, because, wrongly, it is interpreted as "poor Ched, he only got done because he is a footballer and everyone thinks footballers are scum".

YonicSleighdriver · 05/01/2015 17:48

Ok, eggman, I thought your first post was in good faith, but as was clear to House, I mean any man standing in a police interview saying they could have any woman they want in a room because has some piss poor ideas as to what consent is.

I won't be engaging with you further.

Malice, has your employer taken on any convicted rapists?

If they did, and your customer base became aware of it, what do you think the reaction would be?

To all directors and managers of professional football clubs in the UK: give ear and hearken:

If you sign this man a substantial part, probably a minority but a big one, of our own fans (particularly but not only the women) will be angry and will say so every time he plays.

And a similar proportion of the opposing fans will agree and of the rest, a great many will pretend to as a stick to beat your club with.

So the atmosphere at your matches, especially your away matches, will be as toxic as this man is.

And some if not all your sponsors will be out the door before you can say filthy rapist.

So take warning by what has happened at every team whose name has been linked to him and DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!

LineRunner · 05/01/2015 17:53

I think a lot of the Chedistas think they are cleverly flying under the radar on here but then they just have to go and spoil it with their, oooh, total fucking misogyny and wilful ignorance of the facts admitted into court.

AuntieStella · 05/01/2015 17:54

"He only got done because he was a footballer"

They seem to be overlooking that his acquitted co-defendant is also a footballer.

He "got done" because of his own account of events. And of course because he decided to have sex in such when there was no possibility of reasonable belief of consent (ie rape)

merrymouse · 05/01/2015 17:54

I am sure that if a musician were involved in a similar case there would be calls for radio and tv stations to boycott their music. As far as I am aware Gary glitter doesn't get that much airplay.

LineRunner · 05/01/2015 17:56

Or Ian Watkins either.

iamtheeggman · 05/01/2015 17:56

All my posts are in good faith, Yonic!

I am making points about the much narrower question of CE's guilt, while others are having a broader conversation about the subject of consent, rape in general, the status of football in this country etc. That's why my post may have seemed a bit..........chippy.

wow Malice your name really suits you Hmm

YonicSleighdriver · 05/01/2015 17:57

To the extent, merry, that when he was in some crappy "Xmas countdown" on c5, the announcer made it clear his 62nd place was down to sales and nothing else and there was no commentary.

MaliceInWinterWonderland78 · 05/01/2015 17:58

Yonic Almost certainly. I worked for an organisation which employed > 25,000 people - mainly men. Very few of those posts were CRB checked - which kind of goes to the point; do we continue (generally) to punish once time has been served?

YonicSleighdriver · 05/01/2015 18:00

Did the interviewer know about their convictions but employ them anyway?

In respect of the case (and I'm not abn expert) I'd question - if the victim's complaint was that she was sooooo drunk she could not have possilby consented (and I understand there were two co-defendents) how could one be convicted, and the other not?

That's a genuine question by the way, I'm not being goady no more than usual

Jux · 05/01/2015 18:02

Malice, I think your grasp and knowledge of the George Michael case is as profound as your grasp and knowledge of this one. I won't go further, as I don't want to derail this thread.

"It's frankly lazy parenting to say that Ched Evans should be banned from playing football so as to ensure that the minds of the young and impressionable are protected, if that's the motivation"

I agree that CE is totally responsible for his actions.

But my DC have supported their club for as long as they can remember. And to date that club has not employed rapists. You see, it's not just CE once he's in a team, it's the whole club.

And, as pointed out above, all other clubs too when they play "The Rapists"

Malice, what lesson exactly would have been demonstrated to young people by CE going straight back to SUFC as was clearly his intent and the club's intent before the outcry?

Agree with the others re your language on GM.
