To not get how to take this "gift"

Dh decided to book me in to have my nails, hair and makeup done. Lovely (bar me not being bothered enough to spend the whole day having it all done but hey thought was there).
I had to pay for it all. He just booked it.
I know he has the money to pay, he just... Didn't.
Does this count as a gift? Or just giving me the chance to spend my own money?
It confused me somewhat.
Aibu to say something to him (probably really not worth it) I just don't want this urrrr gift again (at the risk of sounding ungrateful)

Tbh I'd be grateful for the day off childcare and opportunity to sort my hair etc. out but I'm easily pleased!

A little odd, I agree it's just a generic 'people with boobs like makeup and pampering' weirdness. Grrr. Glad he's nice the rest of the time!

Just told him i need to call up the nail salon to book my next apt in. Have no signal at home so he offered to book it for me.
I asked if he was going to pay for it this time and he said "do you want me to" and I said "yes, unless I'm allowed to order your birthday presents on your credit card"
And he finally twigged and told me that he did by me a Christmas present (a rather pricey paul smith bag).
I told him he's turning into his man (renowned for giving strange presents)
He apologised and laughed.

See, lesson learned. Re-education is the way to go
