It seems we are not allowed to speak about anything negative elsewhere. Please do not speak badly of Tricky Dicky and co.

I'm guessing it's libel that's not fine as opposed to undertones. Generally speaking, these sort of threads don't tend to stay on the correct side of the UKs, admittedly archaic, libel laws. Short of having a pre-moderated site where posts are vetted before being posted or crowd sourcing a large fund to pay MN lawyers then threads are going to be deleted. Especially if they are fast moving.

Bakeoffcakes · 03/01/2015 23:21

I feel extremely sorry for the parents. They didn't set up the web page. I genuinely think their friend had the best intentions for them but he's extremely naive and a bit stupid he's got completely carried away with the whole thing.

I don't think this thread is helping those parents at all and I hope MN deletes it.

I also think if something fishy was going on the press would be all over it as would the police.

You might want to take bitchy shots at "tricky dicky" but please think of those parents. (And I hope he doesn't sue any of you for calling him names and setting up nasty facebook groups about him.)

IAmOnMyBike · 03/01/2015 23:22

Tricky Dicky has linked to our group. The huns are after us.

But if it's private people searching for information about making donations won't see the 'other side of the story'. I think you have to join to be able to post on the anti-Tricky FB, so any 'haterz' from the 'other side' would have to be approved by admins & I'm sure they're double checking for any type of invasion by 'the Huns'.

I don't think TD will post screen shots on his page. The info being posted isn't what he wants people to see!

WineWineWine · 03/01/2015 23:33

I am shocked that the thread was pulled.
This has got scam written all over it.

LilMissSunshine9 · 03/01/2015 23:33

Are you lot grown women or 13 year olds in the playground? Confused

There are 2 parents here who have a seriously ill baby. Facebook have said they're a nothing wrong with the page, reporters aren't interested.

Don't you think you may just all be making life far more difficult for people in an awful situation?

Thereyouarepeter · 03/01/2015 23:35

I agree Bakeoffcakes...i think this started off genuine enough with a group of mates chucking in some cash at the local pub..one of them gets ideas about involving the media and this has run away at a pace.. this wouldn't have happened even 2 or 3 years ago so people are still learning about these kind of issues. The problem is ignorance and naivety isn't an excuse for fraudulent behaviour

Well I never thought that the Dark Side would be championing free speech whilst MN cowered;

I think MNHQ got this one wrong. The message they are giving is one of censorship of those who were rightly questioning the motives, honesty and morality of what this couple and their pal Tricky Dicky are doing.

They could have deleted the personally abusive posts- eg ones about their appearance, although they seem happy to see Katie Hopkins abused by posters.

They should not , imho, have censored entirely reasonable questions, statements and comments about thebehaviours of this pair and their mate.

No one wishes a baby ill. However, it was entirely reasonable for concerns to be raised about:

  1. The honesty of the information being posted by Tricky Dicky about the insurance situation- his answers changed at least 3 times.
  2. What the donations will actually be spents on now the hospital bills, accomodation, food, trael, flights ad a clothing allowance is being paid between the insurance company and the charity
  3. The morality of people asking for money for a couple who are meanwhile posting pictures of their premie son on the internet on a fundraisng site along with emotive messages, and who are appearing on TV programmes - for which they will have undoubtedly have been paid fees.
  4. Questions not being answered about Tricky Dicky's role and position in all of this - the changing answers to difficult questions, the censoring of posts that contained questions or opinions which challenged his/their behaviour, his role as their employer-ie the person who is paying them inappropriately to save himself money but is asking the public to suppirt them
  5. Questions about what their families are doing to support them financially in this situation
  6. The suggestion that all of the money should now go to the charity as all of their expenses in New York are now covered and why they are persisting in raising money for themselves
  7. The racist, offensive nature of the posts of Tricky Dicky and Lee Johnstone on their own facebook pages.

MNHQ should not be censoring these questions. This is not a site where these questions should be considered inappropriate as long as they are not offensively expressed. The vast majority of people were not expressing themselves inappropriately.

MNHQ have acted in the same way as Tricky Dicky- censoring what makes them uncomfortable. I think that is shameful.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 03/01/2015 23:40

Facebook couldn't care less about what pages people put up, Bakeoff.

iamtheeggman · 03/01/2015 23:42

thereyouarepeter he's not ignorant or naive. He's an insurance broker and therefore knows what he is doing. Don't fall for his schtick, please!

Bakeoffcakes · 03/01/2015 23:45

So insurance brokers know all about setting up fundraising schemes for friends who've had a premature baby in New York?Hmm

Nerf · 03/01/2015 23:45

Really tough, even the one calling her and Dax' mother a scumbag?
I just cannot understand that at all.

Chippednailvarnish · 03/01/2015 23:46

I'd assume an insurance broker would know if they were insured or not...

hoobypickypicky · 03/01/2015 23:50

This is slightly off topic but MissMarple have you read this post in the comments section?

"I hardly think New York is a good choice of venue for an expectant mother, what with the hustle and bustle and Times Square and all that entails."

Hmm

Riiiight. New Yorkers take note. Move out of your home city as soon as you become pregnant. You poor, delicate snowflakes, NYC isn't the place for you.

Bakeoffcakes · 03/01/2015 23:53

chipped if he access to their insurance documents he may have done, otherwise he wouldn't have a clue.

iamtheeggman · 03/01/2015 23:53

Before the cover was confirmed by the insurers, he claimed that travel insurance was "just for lost luggage" and wouldn't cover the 200k medical costs. Which turned out to be bollocks, of course (after they had clocked up £,000s in donations). For an insurance broker (he has a brokerage specialising in income and mortgage protection insurance) to make statements like that in good faith beggars belief.

aermingers · 03/01/2015 23:54

The baby isn't seriously ill. By all accounts he is stable and is going to be fine, he just can't travel yet.

I don't think anybody wishes the baby or the family ill. But what this guy has been doing is really, really questionable. He implied that it was for a huge medical bill before they'd even confirmed they were going to get hit with the bill, and stalled confirming the insurance would cover it until after journalists confirmed it with the hospital.

He's asking for people to cover their expenses. But from their facebook it's very clear that these are not poor people and they don't really have much need to be begging from people who are much less well off than them. Particularly when the friend doing the fundraising has not been entirely honest about where the money is going and for what.

forago · 03/01/2015 23:54

the baby's not I'll, as far as we have been told, in fact he appears to be remarkably healthy for a 29 week old - being handled, not in an incubator, no feeding tube. I have very recent experience of a baby born at 30 weeks who weighed the same as his posted weight and left hospital after only a week, to surprise from all the medical staff. They had a feeding tube in for a week. The parents seem very confident of his outcome after only a few days, not sure id be so immediately confident to do interviews and talk about the future for such a small baby, never mind ask for money and goods for him.
