It seems we are not allowed to speak about anything negative elsewhere. Please do not speak badly of Tricky Dicky and co.

I'm sure I'm being dense, but why is the FB group fully public?

Because they want as much money to be raised via it as possible. Their FB page is the gateway to their fundraising page, which is on gogetfunding, which is a totally unregulated crowdfunding page.

iamtheeggman · 04/01/2015 09:33

They are not dim. Greedy. Clever, even. I suspect many of them are local friends or relatives.

AlpacaYourThings · 04/01/2015 09:33

I think Arsenic is referring to the TD page...

AlpacaYourThings · 04/01/2015 09:34

Oh and I'm not sure why its public, I think it's trying to attract media attention.

It wasn't public at first. May be so people can actually check what's being said rather than the other page making stuff up

iamtheeggman · 04/01/2015 09:40

People donating are not dim, they are being misled. Nowhere has it been stated publicly that their insurance company will cover their living expenses in New York. That is the ground on which people's money is being sold, and it is not right.

iamtheeggman · 04/01/2015 09:42

The Dax fundraising page has always been public. The tricky Dickie page has always been private, other than for a few minutes at the beginning.

ArsenicFaceCream · 04/01/2015 09:42

Yes Alpaca, that's what I meant - the TD page Smile

iamtheeggman · 04/01/2015 09:42

Sought, not sold! Aaargh.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 04/01/2015 09:43

It's getting a bit ridiculous now.. story changing again... It's like they have to find a reason to continue fundraising... shouldn't this be stuff that local family and friends help with, not the general public??? And shouldn't they have had money put aside for this already themselves? It's not like they didn't know the baby was on the way at all... This was posted by apparently someone that knows them...

Ok guys. I asked last night if the stuff for dax was for here or there.... everybody assumed they had everything when they got home.. ive spoke to lee and they dont they only have a few bits. They dont ave moses basket. Pushchair or any of those bits. Im donating a moses basket. Can u guys help?

AliceinWinterWonderland · 04/01/2015 09:44

I'm baffled by this.. they didn't have what they needed for the baby, but took an expensive holiday to NYC first class, staying in a Hilton (not cheap!!), to do some clothes shopping for themselves? Confused

GraysAnalogy · 04/01/2015 09:46

What the fuck. So now people are expected to fork out for things they should have already bought?!

toriap2 · 04/01/2015 09:46

Earlier the FB admin claimed they had everything for the baby, when people were offering Moses baskets, clothes etc. the story changes again....

toriap2 · 04/01/2015 09:46

It has more twists and turns than a twisty turny thing

ArsenicFaceCream · 04/01/2015 09:47

Aha. Makes sense. Jutst feels a bit draughty.

So irritating that all those hours of discussion from yesterday have gone...

Beautifully put toriap Smile

AliceinWinterWonderland · 04/01/2015 09:53

Interesting..that message I copied just disappeared after someone questioned that surely they budgeted for those things prior to going on holiday....

wanderingcloud · 04/01/2015 09:54

So rather than the headline being "stranded UK couple need £130k for medical bills" it's more "unprepared UK couple ask for donations to fund lavish lifestyle" :/

AlpacaYourThings · 04/01/2015 09:57

They are not without money. Flying first class is a clue.

Oh no no, everlong TD enlightened is on this point, the airline they flew with have a policy to upgrade any pregnant women to First Class Wink

Rebecca2014 · 04/01/2015 09:58

I know someone in real life who is struggling to support their family on minimum wage job. They and many people I know would not be able to afford a trip to New York or to stay at the Hilton! That is a dream holiday for most people.

Accepting cash and gifts for the baby is horrendous. That money could be going to food banks or some other worthwhile cause for people on low incomes who struggle day in and out. They saw this is a money grabbing situation and went for it.

A part of me does think, if all these idiots really want shell out there money to a middle class family who don't need it then let them.
