to hate frozen

Minerves · 03/01/2015 18:40

it's time for it to go away. never liked the songs, found the movie boring. a year later and it's stilll everywhere, frozen parties, frozen toys, people quoting frozen songs saying "let it go" all the time, frozen everything. every conversation with someone with kids in the age range to like it has frozen in it. so, so tired of hearing it mentioned.

i remember there being hype over moves when i was a kid, but not lasting over a year.

it seems socially unacceptable to hate frozen, so iam prob being u, but there must be some ppl here who share my view?

Hmm, I see what you're saying but...no.

I think that people read too much into Disney films. I see it as it is - a Queen trapped in a world where she is unable to use her power for fear of hurting someone. She has to shut herself off and she's alone and frightened. Is she gay? She might well be, it doesn't matter, but that's not what it's about! It's about the love between two sisters and the fact that they don't need a man to rescue them.

It's a bit of Disney fluff and for all it's right and wrongs, it's a great film for sticking on for the kids on a rainy afternoon.

Tanith · 09/01/2015 12:05

Enjoy Grin

VikingLady · 09/01/2015 14:35

The hype surrounding Frozen for girls and Minions for boys this Christmas makes me SO fucking thankful DD hasn't the patience to sit through a film, nor the understanding to copy other kids at groups!

I swear we are the only toddler parents I know who have managed to avoid the whole thing Grin

Missingsleepandthecat · 09/01/2015 17:10

YADNBU!

cunexttuesonline · 09/01/2015 17:42

YANBU I don't like it much and my DH hates it with a passion. We went to see it in the cinema, but luckily DS wasn't all that fussed on it either.

shovetheholly · 09/01/2015 17:44

YABU.

Frozen is a GREAT thing for youngsters, especially young girls. AT LAST Disney is starting to 'get' that women of all ages don't just want an unrealistic portrayal of them needing rescue by men. I say unrealistic, because we all know that it's women that do the rescuing in real life. All the time. :D

MorelliOrRanger · 09/01/2015 18:27

Yabu, I love it, the songs, characters and story.

How can you hate a film which has a snowman who says 'some things are worth melting for', while sitting in front of a fire.

I also agree with poster upthread who says it's good that it's Anna that saves Elsa and not some man.

MorelliOrRanger · 09/01/2015 18:32

Tanith,

Elsa was born with the power, the king says so to the troll when asked about them.

jazzandh · 11/01/2015 14:08

Snow White v Elsa, Tanith brilliant!!

I love it....my boys (10 and 4) both love it too...very much made with stage musical in mind.......

Gutsy women, flawed women (men as a side show) what's not to enjoy!

AlanBstardMP · 11/01/2015 14:22

You can't marry a man you just met - but its ok to snog another one you've known just as long even if he does have bestiality issues.

And don't get me started on that Fixer Upper song - yes lets teach our kids that you can change anyone if you love them enough.

Libitina · 11/01/2015 14:31

YANBU

I tried watching it because of all the hype. Think I lasted less than 10 minutes in before it annoyed me so much I had to turn it off. Thank god my child is now an adult so I never need to see it again.

ImNoClownIWontBackDown · 11/01/2015 14:37

It's just a bit - meh. Where's the story?

Tangled is better. Fact.

debbietheduck · 11/01/2015 14:44

YABU. It is a good well made movie and the songs are excellent. It also has some positive messages about the nature of love (Anna) and the nature of power and responsibility (Elsa) not that I have thought about it too much or anything.

And I love the way the happy love story (with Anna and Kristoff) is just a minor subplot instead of the main point. I think it has a genuinely feminist message.

BUT I know what you mean about the over-hyping - when something is just everywhere it does put you off it a bit however good it is.

Gawjushun · 11/01/2015 14:58

YANBU. Crappy looking animation, merchandise that'll just fill up the landfills in a few months, gearing voices.

Guess I'd just better let it go aye? Huurrrrr durrrr that's a good one.

Gawjushun · 11/01/2015 15:00

Grating voices, obvs. Thanks autocorrect.

Simile · 11/01/2015 15:21

Oh I am soooo pleased. I thought my DSs and I were the only ones who found it boring and the rest of you had gone completely bonkers. Good to hear a small minority are with me.

Agree that Tangled is a much better film.

What is wrong with the rest of you? Grin

TSSDNCOP · 11/01/2015 15:38

It is awful. The film is a real let down, and seriously the song is like screechy nails on a blackboard.

They only hooked me because the trailer focused on Olaf and the reindeer and I thought it might be another Scratt. But no. Even Olaf is a let down.

The Minions on the other hand are absolutely fucking awesome. If there had been Minions in Frozen I'd have been well happy. There should be Minions in every movie IMO.

threepiecesuite · 11/01/2015 16:18

It ain't Oscar- worthy I agree, but on a scale of Disney films, I think it's one of their best. The musical score is brilliant, Frozen Heart is my favourite. And moving away from the 'princess rescued by knight in shining armour' theme can only be a good thing.

Minions just annoy me.

KurriKurri · 11/01/2015 16:30

I started watching it on a recent long haul flight, and found it quite boring. I didn't like the animation much either - all huge eyes and big heads - like a film based on dolls.

Any way I couldn't finish watching it because some fucker broke my headphones (snapped them off at the connection so headphones were wrecked and I couldn't plug in any others) while I was in the loo. That's my main memory of Frozen, and I'm still bitter about it. (Yes yes, I know - 'Let it Go' )

NurseRoscoe · 11/01/2015 20:53

YANBU to hate it as you are entitled to your opinion.

I personally love it, how the main female characters aren't drips like they are in most disney films!

livingzuid · 11/01/2015 21:04

It's bloody awful. YADNBU. One of Disney's worst. I spent the whole movie waiting for the snowman to melt and go away he was so irritating. The singing is dreadful the songs crap and the story beyond weak. I had a friend say it was a step forward in feminist cartoons which I don't get. They are still sitting around waiting for Prince Charming to come sweep them off their feet, well at least one is. And the older one is a bitch for a godly proportion of the film. Neither are particularly wonderful role models for young girls,.not that there needs to be any message but I only hate dd to think that was the pinnacle. Brave was far better. I am just hoping whatever replaces it is more interesting than this pile of rubbish!

The craze around merchandising is unreal as well. All designed to just keep pouring more money into the coffers of Disney. I wouldn't mind so much if they at least employed people who could hit the high notes!

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 11/01/2015 21:04

Hmmmm, I do love Frozen and love 'let it go', it's a bloody great song!

However, over Xmas we watched loads of kids films againon sky movies - monsters inc, all the toy stories, the Lego movie etc.

And it really made me think that Frozen is actually quite boring - the above movies all have great ideas for their premise, and are just really clever. Frozen has an incredibly simplistic plot, there are no twists or anything and the general idea of the story just isn't very interesting.

However, its still brill so YABU Smile

AlanBstardMP · 11/01/2015 22:11

I love Brave too living and was a bit disappointed it didnt get the accolades frozen did. Probably due to lack of power ballads and sparkly dresses.
