to hate frozen

Minerves · 03/01/2015 18:40

it's time for it to go away. never liked the songs, found the movie boring. a year later and it's stilll everywhere, frozen parties, frozen toys, people quoting frozen songs saying "let it go" all the time, frozen everything. every conversation with someone with kids in the age range to like it has frozen in it. so, so tired of hearing it mentioned.

i remember there being hype over moves when i was a kid, but not lasting over a year.

it seems socially unacceptable to hate frozen, so iam prob being u, but there must be some ppl here who share my view?

I'm still not sick of the film or the songs, I'm really surprised!

redpickle · 07/01/2015 15:45

I think there is a 'social pressure' on little girls that they HAVE to like Frozen. My DD was at a Frozen party and they were all singing and saying bits from the film and she turned to me and in a little voice said "I still think Beauty and the Beast is the best" but she obviously couldn't possibly say it out loud. She's 6 Hmm

Darcey - gay subtext? Gay not being wholesome? What?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 07/01/2015 15:52

I like it, but no more or less than the Disney movies I grew up with. What has surprised me is the sheer overwhelming love for this movie. Even a year after it was released. I was a bit Hmm when I saw the Disney store was stocking the merchandise long before the release of the movie in cinemas but they clearly knew what they were doing.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 07/01/2015 15:53

Darcey I think the only homosexual in it is Wandering Oaken. Not that it matters. Gay, straight, who gives a shit!

AllThePrettySeahorses · 07/01/2015 15:55

YABU. I love the film.

*or rather 2 1/2 y o DD was given a copy for Christmas and we've watched it EVERY day since and she now has the dollies and the dress and she calls herself Elsa-Flora and runs up the stairs with her hands out yelling "Let It Go!" and if I didn't love it I'd go bananas! BANANAS! May namechange to stockholm syndrome.

I'm so glad DD is a baby. No Disney crap for another couple years.

It's a good movie, not a good adults movie, but it is revolutionary in how they represent characters in general. It's a good (and big) first step to breaking out of the typical princess mode.

HearCerseiRoar · 07/01/2015 16:05

I have mixed feelings really. I loved the film, loved the songs and characters, loved the sisterly connection, felt a massive personal connection with Elsa because of my own mental health problems. BUT...as a massive Disney/animated films fan (think obsessed here, really) I am annoyed that other films (better films) are underrated in comparison to the Frozen hype. I mean, I can think of ten better Disney films off the top of my head right now. It's a shame...YABU imo to 'hate' Frozen, but YANBU to hate the hype.

can a latent lesbian queen be wholesome
WTAF????
got to be the most bizarre (and offensive) statement i've seen on mn today (including the pagan thread...)

Tanith · 07/01/2015 16:16

All the little girls and some of the boys I mind are Frozen-mad. I am not yet sick of it, but I am confused. I would like to know:

  1. Why bother with the Scandinavian names and pronunciation when they all have American accents?
  1. What's the back-story behind Elsa's powers? Did they just appear one day?
  1. What the hell has it got to do with Hans Christian Anderson's Snow Queen (upon which it is supposed to be based)?
waitingfor3 · 07/01/2015 16:19

It's better than Barbie (which Frozen toys have trounced in sales). Yeay to that. And yeay to a redhead whose freckles aren't some face afterthought.
But, it is a movie I can't get too emotional about it.

BlueberryWafer · 07/01/2015 16:30

I love frozen Grin I've watched it about 7 times!

PortofinoVino · 07/01/2015 16:34

They've made their billions out of us - do you REALLY think they care what people think?

Pumpkinette · 07/01/2015 17:29

YANBU - I have had to sit through 7 frozen birthday parties since September. My DD could play a part in the movie she's seen it so many times. Some inconsiderate nice person got her the cd for her birthday so I can't even escape the songs when the bloody dvd isn't on. And she's learned how to hit the repeat button on the CD player now so we can listen to let it go 15 times in a row.

Tanith · 07/01/2015 20:00

Of course they care! They even apologised for that song not nearly enough! Smile

Heleng1982 · 07/01/2015 20:01

I watched it for the first time on new years eve and I love it if love everything about it. Smile

YANBU, I haven't even seen the film and I am heartily sick of it. So is my son.

Gay subtext? FFS

OP, YANBU - if you're sick of it you're sick of it.

However, I love Frozen. I think it's a great film, although both my DDs like Frozen but I wouldn't say that they were obsessives so maybe that's why I don't feel Frozen to death. DD2 loves it more than DD1. She often asks for "Elsa hair" and she has a couple of the dolls and a few tops with Frozen on.

I probably would have been Frozen obsessed if I was 4 today. I was obsessed with Snow White. If merchandise had been available I would have wanted everything. Lucky for my mum that it wasn't! Smile

KellyElly · 07/01/2015 20:29

I like it. Not as keen after watching it with DD for the 30th time as I was the first time granted Grin

natwebb79 · 07/01/2015 20:31

My SIL used to work in PR for Disney and when I asked her why the fuck it's done so well she said they just had an amazing PR team on it. Way too easy to fool people. Grin

TwitterWooooo · 07/01/2015 20:36
