To still after all these years find Fawlty Towers funny

They've been showing the series on Gold I think. It's still funny, unlike lots of comedy from years ago. Just watched the one with the rat and the health inspector. So funny. Anyone not find it so?

I still find it hilarious but do cringe a bit at some of the racism etc.

TendonQueen · 01/01/2015 19:08

It's classic. 'He put Basil in ratatouille!'

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/01/2015 19:10

Nope, don't feel the love from FT
It was of my era too (48) so I watched it first time round too.
I do however love a bit of Monty Python Grin

formerbabe · 01/01/2015 19:11

Yanbu! I think it's hilarious!

skolastica · 01/01/2015 19:12

Beating the reluctant car with a tree branch...!

Hiding the dead body.

Loved them and still do.

whitesandstorm · 01/01/2015 19:12

I'm trying to think of my favourite episode.

Oh yes i love it too. I didnt see ut first time round but my dad talked of how funny it was so i watched it on netflix. Brilliant.

HeraldAngelSinging · 01/01/2015 19:17

I liked it, especially the way the letters in the words 'Fawlty Towers' were changed around with each episode.

pollypocket123 · 01/01/2015 19:18

Love it. Very silly, very funny. The relationship between Basil and Cybil (sp?) is brilliant.

SurlyCue · 01/01/2015 19:19

I think my fave is where the couple with the fussy young boy are there and they serve them the wrong food and the dad keeps having to ask for the drink as basil is distracted. I think by what he thinks is a visiting Lord or something.

Etihad · 01/01/2015 19:20

It's great, some bits haven't quite stood the test of time, glad it's not just me that cringes at the racism.

The Live Dining Experience is a great evening out, seen it a couple of times.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 01/01/2015 19:21

I haven't watched it for a few years, but the beating the car with a tree episode has me in stitches every time. Also the Germans.

formerbabe · 01/01/2015 19:21

I love the one when Cybil walks out on him but he has dinner guests coming round so Polly dresses up as her and pretends to be ill in bed!

Metalguru · 01/01/2015 19:25

Absolutely classic, every episode comedy genius.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/01/2015 19:26

I find it very dated, racist and sexist.

FreeSpirit89 · 01/01/2015 19:30

I personally love it!!! And some mothers do have em x

amigababy · 01/01/2015 19:33

Etihad do you need to be brave to go to the dinner experience? We're fairly quiet peeps but love FT, not sure if ithe actors would stress us out?

myleftfoot · 01/01/2015 19:39

I love the episode with the awkward Mrs Richards -

'That is Torquay, madam.'
'Well, it's not good enough.'
'Well, may I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeasts sweeping majestically...'

Arf. Grin The episode with Basil hitting the car with a branch is a good one too.

Etihad · 01/01/2015 19:39

amiga no it's quite safe don't worry. I am very shy, and they worked that out quickly and didn't involve me other than talking to us a few times. Other people ended up getting food thrown at them, chucked out, made to stand on tables etc Grin

BastardGoDarkly · 01/01/2015 19:42

No yanbu it's still great.

I like the duck alorange one Grin

Was talking to my dad about it today, He said there's only 12 episodes!?

chancer2014 · 01/01/2015 19:43

Where is the FT experience? And how much does it cost? My dd would love this. Is there a minimum age limit? Can teenagers go?

I love it. The Kipper and the Corpse and the Psychiatrist are my favourites. Basil the Rat is up there too. Genius, if a little dated, sexist and racist.

I love 'The Builders'. Especially the bit when Sybil twats the builder with the umbrella. I've often wondered how Basil and Sybil met and why they married .
