If you have not made a resolution, may I respectfully suggest that you totter down to the blood bank just ONCE in 2015 and help save someone's life?
It doesn't hurt, they give you biscuits and they have lovely swingy chairs that turn you upside down if you go a bit woozy.
Plus you come out walking about 2feet off the ground because you have done something AMAZING

This is in honour of Joe Trazzletoes who is an inspiration to us all.

Bloody happy new year to you all Thanks

It's a bit late now, however, for next year, its particularly important to go in December if your slot falls then as lots of people don't attend because of colds/flu, Christmas shopping etc. January/February also important for the colds/flu reason.

I'm the only one in my immediate family who can donate, but I'm sure dd will join me when she's old enough. When she was a toddler she used to stand and hold my hand all the way through and watch the staff very carefully, it was adorable. Now she's more concerned about whether she'll be offered a club biscuit or not.

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/01/2015 12:36

My last year's resolution was to sign up to organ and bone marrow donation. > Which I did. Too easy to let it slip too many years. Blush And giving blood in a couple of weeks!

Bloodybridget · 03/01/2015 12:43

Great OP, reminds me to try again this year in the hope that my iron levels will have perked up a year after abandoning vegetarianism!

CaulkheadUpNorth · 03/01/2015 12:49

I'm trying to arrange from there to be a donation session day thing at work soon. Will that make up for me not being able to donate stupid lithium

PingPongBat · 03/01/2015 13:40

I'm on my 12th donation next time, I think Smile I started years ago and gave up when I had IVF, but recently started again when I discovered a friend would have died without blood transfusion after childbirth. And my mum needs regular transfusions now too.

I always have 2 packs of biccies afterwards Blush is that really bad??

OiMissus · 03/01/2015 14:51

Someone else may have already shared the link my.blood.co.uk but if not here it is.
It's dead easy to register.
I'm booked in for my first session on Tuesday. Smile

BillyJoel · 03/01/2015 14:55

After a huuuuge gap when they didn't want my blood, I can now donate again. I am happy. So I too will be making my 12th donation next time.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 03/01/2015 15:05

I have an appointment in April (8th donation I think), but I made my 1st appointment following a thread like this several years ago. Now trying to persuade DH to go too.

ZingTheGreat · 03/01/2015 16:15

NorksAreMessy · 03/01/2015 16:58

Bloody brilliant!

Yes, it was Joe Trazzletoes that started me doing this...I need to nag his mum to come over and give us a boost :)

Oh lovely Norks. Thank you. And thank you all donors.

You've reminded me I need to reschedule my appointment. I'm nervous but need to remind myself how important it is.
Will see if I can dig out a pic of Super Joe who wouldn't be alive without donations of blood and platelets.

Trazzletoes · 03/01/2015 17:17

Here he is.

Right, you bloody lovely bunch, over here please for Norksy's annual resolution suggestion

Gave blood yesterday. Lovely biccies!!

abuhamzamouse · 03/01/2015 19:53

Bump!!

plus3 · 03/01/2015 20:44

Thank you to everyone who donates - I couldn't do my job without you! Got through bags & bags of the red stuff last night.

inconceivableme · 03/01/2015 21:04

I used to donate but since receiving blood at the time of my son's birth I'm no longer allowed to donate. (I try not to dwell on the worrying rule!)

My DH and MIL give though, but my parents are unable to due to medical conditions.

TheBeanpole · 03/01/2015 21:06

This is a good reminder for me- I gave loads in early adulthood (apart from the occasional turnaway for my feeble blood) but have been professionally back and forth to malaria endemic areas for work ever since so have hardly ever had a clear 3 month window (I've also had malaria which used to rule you out, but they've changed that, I believe). But I'm just back from maternity leave and haven't been anywhere for ages so am going to book in for next week. Hooray!
My mum had a massive PPH with me and almost died, and my cousin had 2, and both had donor blood. So thanks all.
I have been working on DP for this for ages, but he quite often faints during really minor medical stuff (like having his BP done...) so I don't think I will get him to do it. But he is on the organ donor register now.

inconceivableme · 03/01/2015 21:08

It's a shame I can no longer give as every phlebotomist I've encountered has remarked on my beautiful veins and I had a fast flow too so it was always over quickly!
