If you have not made a resolution, may I respectfully suggest that you totter down to the blood bank just ONCE in 2015 and help save someone's life?
It doesn't hurt, they give you biscuits and they have lovely swingy chairs that turn you upside down if you go a bit woozy.
Plus you come out walking about 2feet off the ground because you have done something AMAZING

This is in honour of Joe Trazzletoes who is an inspiration to us all.

Bloody happy new year to you all Thanks

Done. In. I solemnly swear I will give blood in the next two months.

catsofa · 01/01/2015 03:22

Hey, you know what's really really cool that they give you now as well as tea and biscuits? They now write to you and tell you what your blood was used for! So weeks later you get another round of self congratulation and realising exactly what an amazing thing you have done.

I can't give for a while because I'm pregnant, and although I tried once ages ago, I fainted and had to stop. I think it was partly because my circulation was rubbish because I was such a heavy smoker, which I gave up a year ago, and partly because I'm so scared of needles.

So, my resolution for now is to get over my needle phobia enough to be able to both give birth/have pregnancy jabs, and for later in the year/after 6 months breastfeeding is to then be so ok with it that I can give blood, save lives and be a superhero.

slithytove · 01/01/2015 03:30

I've booked for March

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 01/01/2015 04:41

Is there a link to who can/can't donate that people can check?
I think (from what I can understand) am in the process of collecting reasons for them to not allow me to donate.

I am down to give blood this month, and have also nagged DH into starting, which he was able to do last time and will again this time. I am happy to donate blood (I am O neg so needed) and platelets, bone marrow etc.

The problem I have found is that when you go on the website it says tattoos and piercings in the last 4 months, which I am clear from and planned around my blood donation dates, and yet on the form they send me to complete they say it is within 12 months. Also, the bone marrow people don't want me cos I'm over 30 (the fuckers) but apparently I can ask to be registered at the time of giving blood. Can anyone shed any light on this, cos I am really keen to start giving?

foofooyeah · 01/01/2015 09:33

I cannot donate anymore, but shall make my adult son my proxy.

CalleighDoodle · 01/01/2015 10:00

I had a transfusion 3 years ago so guess im ruled out too. Ill make it my mission to get others onboard instead.

trilbydoll · 01/01/2015 10:06

You have to be over 8st as well, I tried when I was 18 and was too tiny! Sadly that has not been a problem for many years.

DC2 is due in May which will probably count me out for 2015. Will have to make twice as much effort in 2016.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 01/01/2015 11:23

Thanks for the link Norks that does indeed rule me out at least 6 times over. Hmm

ZingTheGreat · 01/01/2015 12:51

Thanks for link Norks

at least 4 things came back as "need to contact for more info" so I'll do that tomorrow

told DH to get on with it please, he said ok.
so +1! Wink

May I make a suggestion for those who can't give blood?

To consider signing the organ donor register? Totally understand that it is a personal thing. You can opt out of any bits you are squeamish about.

A friend got new kidney after waiting twenty years ( twenty years! That is a lot of dialysis) and it changed not just his life but his whole family's.

It is amazing that your bits can give life long after you have gone xx
