If you have not made a resolution, may I respectfully suggest that you totter down to the blood bank just ONCE in 2015 and help save someone's life?
It doesn't hurt, they give you biscuits and they have lovely swingy chairs that turn you upside down if you go a bit woozy.
Plus you come out walking about 2feet off the ground because you have done something AMAZING

This is in honour of Joe Trazzletoes who is an inspiration to us all.

Bloody happy new year to you all Thanks

Marvellous idea for 2016, has nudged both DH and I who have donated in the past but not for ages.

I've never done it. I honestly don't know why. It genuinely never occurred to me! I'm off to google it right now. Thanks for the nudge.

Rather than start a new thread, I will let this one go on, to show off all the brilliant people from last year.

I now receive Bo Tox (for medical reasons) so I can't be a blood or organ donor. What annoys me is I'm a slightly rare blood type and I cant donate for my own use either, which seems ridiculous.

I am donating my body to research into the condition I have, but my family are horrified by the idea and apparently they can veto it. Sad

NorksAreMessy · 31/12/2015 13:13

Ooooo, I would love to ask you lots of nosey questions, but I will be good and sit on my hands.
Please can you cajole someone else to eat biscuits on your behalf?

I signed up after reading this thread this time last year. I am needle phobic but felt I had to do something after my lovely mum got bowel cancer in October 14 and her life was literally saved by blood donors. The blood bank comes to my work so it's really easy, it doesn't hurt and the biscuits are great!

knobblyknee · 31/12/2015 13:22

Yes, thats one thing I can do Smile

pizzaeatingmonkey · 31/12/2015 13:29

I've just registered to donate for the first time. I have an appointment in February.
Thank you OP for your timely post! (I've also shared it on FB to try and find people to go too!)

pizzaeatingmonkey · 31/12/2015 13:31

I'm only (a-hem) 57, why do they stop at 65 when there are a lot of healthy OAPs about nowadays? Confused

Petradreaming · 31/12/2015 13:34

I used to donate regularly - every 6 months pretty much - Unfortunately, I had a blood transfusion in 1996 after delivery of my daughter and I am not allowed to donate blood anymore.... its due the fact they were not testing for CJD until 1997 so I may have been infected.... cheery thought ( though my OH does call me a mad cow). I do however nag everyone else I know to give blood. Great cause, everyone should do it.

NorksAreMessy · 31/12/2015 14:02

old you utterly wonderful person. Especially as a needle-phobe that is a BIG DEAL!

Donated in late November, booked to do it again in early March. After a gap for fertility treatment / pregnancy / miscarriage / post-natal, which lasted a couple of years, I can now safely say I've got back to being a regular donor.

MrsHathaway · 31/12/2015 14:49

Bump.

I'm not allowed but DF has donated huge quantities over the years - I remember his getting a crystal plaque thing for his hundredth donation at least fifteen years ago. He was in the plasma donation scheme for a while which is monthly rather than three-monthly. V proud.

BlueJug · 31/12/2015 18:45

I have been donating for many years - since I was 20. DD did first donation as soon as she was 17 and persuaded her friends to do so too. She gave her second lot just before xmas.

It was an MN thread just like this several years ago that prompted me to get back into it as I'd lapsed a bit.
