If you have not made a resolution, may I respectfully suggest that you totter down to the blood bank just ONCE in 2015 and help save someone's life?
It doesn't hurt, they give you biscuits and they have lovely swingy chairs that turn you upside down if you go a bit woozy.
Plus you come out walking about 2feet off the ground because you have done something AMAZING

This is in honour of Joe Trazzletoes who is an inspiration to us all.

Bloody happy new year to you all Thanks

I used to, now I'm apparently not allowed as I had a blood transfusion in 1996.

Destinysdaughter · 31/12/2015 23:24

Can you donate if you're 50 and smoke? Not sure my blood is that healthy tbh! Do they test it first?

ghostyslovesheep · 31/12/2015 23:28

I couldn't last year due to anaemia - I will this year x

NorksAreMessy · 01/01/2016 09:31

Star Star Star

destiny your age is no barrier at all (I am 51, and they still like my wrinkly blood) and nor is the smoking

bathsheba is there anyone you can nominate to give blood on your behalf? teenagers have been a rich source of new blood for me (that does sound a tiny bit vampire-y) as they are keen and generally pretty wonderful IME

Another one who can't donate unfortunately, i will show DH this thread and hope that he will though.

Sherlockmaystealyourpug · 01/01/2016 12:29

I just made an appointment online for thr place nearest to me, pleasently surprised at the limited amount of appt. I tried in the past but was on meds they didnt liked and my weight was low, but now am healthier and two stone heavier i reckon im cool to help. Something i have wanted to do but may not have got round too without the kick up the bum from this post, so thank you!

Sherlockmaystealyourpug · 01/01/2016 12:29

Omg, the typos in my post!!! This is why i rarely post!

shockthemonkey · 01/01/2016 12:49

It's a great idea. They wouldn't take mine in France last attempt... I filled out the form and was turned away. Before leaving, I asked -- was it because I lived in Senegal during the 70s? "No...", ah, I said, the Congo during the late 60s? "No". I know, it was Turkey during the 80s! "No, ahem, it's because you lived in the UK during the 90s" (mad cow disease).

Maybe if I'm still alive in 2016 I didn't get mad cow disease?

Shall I try again? Yes I think I will.

A pleasure to kick the bum of the greatest ever detective, sherlock Grin

I will! And will let all the other posters in France know whether I'm successful. Happy new year!

DaniAlvez · 01/01/2016 13:48

Just booked my first donation... And posted it to FB to try and get some more on board! Great thread..thanks for the birtual kick up the arse Grin

BestIsWest · 01/01/2016 13:59

I haven't been able too due to a medical condition but since having surgery last year I should now be able to. It's not even difficult for me since they come to our office for the day. I will do it this year.

My dad needed 11 pints of blood after surgery so I owe all donors a great debt.

My DD goes and I'll be encouraging DS to start now he is 17.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 01/01/2016 14:00

Thanks for this op. I've just signed up and booked my first donation appointment :) Dh is having quite regular transfusions as part of his chemo treatment at the moment so I intend to give back as much as he's had, and then some on top Grin I realise that may take a while with the waiting periods but I like the sound of this worthwhile goal and it's a way I can give something back. I'm O-neg.

NorksAreMessy · 01/01/2016 16:34

Guy Star wishing your DH the very best possible outcomes.

Dani am very happy to don my beautifully embroidered and softly padded arse kicking boots. :)

YAY! Best I love that they come to your office, which basically means a little lie down in a tippy-up chair in the middle of the day.
And biscuits :)

oldfatandtired1 · 02/01/2016 22:16

I can confirm it's great when the Bloodbank comes to your office. Tippy up chairs, biccies, time off from work and you get to lie down to the hot guy in marketing Smile

oldfatandtired1 · 02/01/2016 22:17

Or even NEXT to the hot guy in marketing! (See how flustered I got?)

NorksAreMessy · 02/01/2016 22:26

I don't know why the tippy up chair has not made it into mainstream furnishings.
In brown leather, perhaps...or patchwork fabric.
Just the thing when you are feeling a bit lightheaded, or need a rush of blood to the head to generate bright ideas?
