To think these offices are haunted.

I run a commercial cleaning company which has sadly got too big for me to do the cleaning so I employ people. However there is one customer who only wants 3 hours doing once every weekend so I do it as I find it therapeutic and relaxing.
I work out of hours so I am the only person in the building. As soon as I get in the front door I lock it behind me to stop an opportunistic thief getting in behind me and robbing the place.
On my first shift last month I went into the kitchen and was cleaning the main table. The radio suddenly switches on playing Wham!. I put it down to being an old faulty radio and just unplugged it and never thought twice.
Was there last night and there is one light I never turn on because you have to squeeze past all these boxes to get to the light switch and I am not the slimmest person so I leave it.
Problems started when I heard footsteps in level above me. At the time I figured a different business must rent floor 1 so not to worry.
Next thing the light switches on. I was confused and thought I must have shimmied down by the boxes and weirdly forgotten I had done it. So carried on working and then it switched off while I was in the next room.
At this point I figured there was someone else in the building. I grabbed the metal tube on the hoover and went round all the offices armed with the pole ready to twat a burglar, but nobody there.
Then the footsteps on level 1 again. Then the light turned on and off again.
At this point I decided it was haunted and bricking it I locked up and went.
Phoned the customer today to find out what is on ground 1 and they said it is their storage area and nobody goes up there. Asked if the light was on some timer device and they said no. Asked if one of the workmen came in over the weekend and was pranking me and they said no.
So a bit confused. I do not like believing in ghosts but cannot think of another explanation.

I'd really like to hear of ghosts that perhaps were wearing 1980's clothing or medieval clothing. Anything other than little girls or 'maids' in victorian outfits. Wouldnt mind hearing about some dinosaur ghosts either. Or cows or snakes or rabbits or sheep.....

There have been quite a few mediaeval ghost sightings! They generally turn out to be wearing assortments of clothes from different eras, and to have unfeasibly healthy teeth. Awkward.

catsmother · 23/12/2014 19:51

Medieval ghosts do exist. I've seen one, so there, it must be true.

To think these offices are haunted.
Revenant · 23/12/2014 19:54

Even if ghosts existed, why would you haunt your place of work for eternity?!

What, so some ghosts are like battle re-enactors who haven't done their research and get laughed at by their ferociously purist fellow-ghosts? Grin

Theorientcalf · 23/12/2014 20:06

Where's the other thread?

raltheraffe · 23/12/2014 20:22

No it is not a converted mill. I would estimate it was built between 1950 and 1970. I will do some online research on the building.

Ive just watched the episode of the big bang theory where they to the renaissance fayre and sheldon picks holes in all the inaccuracies. he'd love this thread Grin

MamaMary · 23/12/2014 20:34

The converted mill thread was a fabulous piece of entertainment - in fact it ran to several threads.

There were pebble-throwing ghosts, loud banging in the loft, ghostly writing appearing on windows and toilet lights coming on independently. Doors locked themselves. There were mediums with herbs wafting around, vicars being called on to perform exorcism, all sorts really. It really was rather wonderful. For us rather than the OP who was scared sh**less.

There was no rational explanation however - the best idea offered if I recall correctly was that ninja squirrels were the culprits

The mill threads were amazing. It was one of those typical Pom Pom wavers threads where the OP had to keep coming up with more ludicrous happenings every update to keep the baying mob happy.

I think weird stuff happens all the time. Sometimes it can be hard to explain but what I have noticed is that all the people I know who claim to have seen ghosts are a certain type of person. Like you have to believe in ghosts to see them. Which in itself proves a point I think.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2014 20:55

Perhaps it needs the overtime?

taxi4ballet · 23/12/2014 20:58

I never said I'd 'seen' a ghost - just that I'd come across one. It was a definite presence, like you get when you know there's someone else there - you just can't see them. Unnerving, but not anything like the evil chain-rattling spooky hauntings beloved of horror films. That's just daft.

tipsytrifle · 23/12/2014 21:12

I think you should get physical possibilities checked out first. If you are cleaning alone then first thing is to make sure you are NOT alone. This is personal safety. After that, allow for a wider range of what's Real ...

Of course it might be that when you are not alone unusual stuff doesn't happen. I believe in the spirit world. I have experienced it. I'm not interested in being dissuaded nor do I believe it conflicts with Science either.

What do your instincts say about all this? Yes, ask owners if you can.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 23/12/2014 21:12

Haven't you done this thread before, a couple of years ago iirc?

tipsytrifle · 23/12/2014 21:16

Yes to what taxi said - all the horror movie shit is really bad disinfo .. it's just not like that. All that "Haunted" stuff is fake, right? Really, the spirit world should sue for misrepresentation ...

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 23/12/2014 21:19

All that "Haunted" stuff is fake, right?

Well its certainly not real Wink

tipsytrifle · 23/12/2014 21:19

Crikey - folk recall threads from years ago? Cool ...

tipsytrifle · 23/12/2014 21:19

That's what I said!! LOL

raltheraffe · 23/12/2014 21:22

I am new to Mumsnet, only came here a few months ago when Netmums banned me. Blush

tipsytrifle I have an uncanny ability to remember stuff, ghosts in buildings and such like. Xmas Wink

tipsytrifle · 23/12/2014 21:25

Why were you banned raltheraffe? How soon after you got here the first time were you banned? Would it count as a speed record? Sod the embarrassment ... being alive is a blast and getting banned from a website isn't going to rock the cosmic boat too much (in my opinion)

tipsytrifle · 23/12/2014 21:27

you really really made me smile SSCSD (if you think I'm typing that lot out forget it) Xmas Grin
