I work for a company that sublets to various businesses on a fairly large site,

Today one of our directors, who is reasonably wealthy, pulled a gag on the lady that runs the onsite cafe that involved a 25k fake scratch card.

She isn't wealthy, and spent 20 mind or so phoning her family and friends offering to treat them before my pathetic boss laughed at her for falling for the joke.

Aibu is this a particularly cuntish thing to just before Christmas?

Poor woman cried she was so disappointed/embarrassed.

Guess I'm a cunt then :) But then again i have too much of a life to get outraged by a random person being pranked.

The reason it's not funny Mick is because he is not friends with this woman. That would be annoying enough, but in this case they are not mates or family, they have no relationship other than he frequents her shop.

He should pick on somebody his own size.

Reminds me of the 'joke' someone in my family played on my grandmother years ago. Phoned her claiming to be from the TV licensing people saying they were coming round to see her TV licence. She didn't know where it was and spent days turning her house upside down trying to find it and fretting that she was going to go to prison for not having one

Another here who hates the word 'banter'. My DS HT tried to defend his bullies as using banter (that my DS just doesn't understand due to his ASD). That's until I sat in his office making his life hell under 'safeguarding' because the latest banter was to threaten my 10yo DS with SN with rape and tell him I was going to rape him.

The man is a cunt - a pure cunt. And if he genuinely thought it was funny he should have put a stop to it when she started making calls. Right at that point he proved this was pure bullying.

According to my dictionary, banter is an exchange of playful, good humoured teasing.

Jokes and banter should be funny. This was cruel and her reaction says it all. Sadly there are some very mean, cruel and unfavorable people who would do this and would agree. Those people tend to flock together thankfully and anyone outside of that mentality lack of empathy and maturity, just rolls their eyes and tries to avoid. Strangely, like your boss I suspect, they don't like cruel things towards them but are happy to dish it. My bil is like this and one his pranks cost him everything. Even his old friends and family have no sympathy no matter how much he now bleats about being a victim.

Most people are best off ignoring these people and this behaviour but in this case op I would email your boss and hr today. It is mean, thoughtless and cruel and grossly unprofessional.

My mil did this to me and DH years ago, we were really struggling trying to buy our first house, I was 5 months pregnant, DH was struggling with money owed to the taxman and I can still remember the utter relief of not having to worry and have no more sleepless nights. She played sling for ten bloody minutes before bursting out laughing and telling us it was a fake one. Strang, strange women.
