Hartlepool's FB page for anyone wishing to register their opinion:

www.facebook.com/hartlepoolunited

So far the overall consensus is that no one wants him there.

sashh · 20/12/2014 22:51

AuntieStella

He has been refused leave to appeal twice, this 'appeal' is a criminal cases revue commission, anyone with a conviction in England, Wales or NI can apply.

They can, if there is new evidence, send it back to the court of appeal, only a tiny number are sent back, out of those sent back about 1/3 are over turned.

I don't think there is any new evidence, he said in police interviews and in court what he did and the reward has not been claimed.

There is also a petition

Thanks sashh!

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 00:47

I'm going to get crucified for saying this, but what do people want??

He committed a crime and was punished for it.
He served his time and has been released.

So why are we the general public still punishing him and resisting his attempts to build a life for himself? Has he not served his time for the crime he committed. He has been deemed to be not threat to society and released? Is he a free man now, but only allowed to be free in the ways that we the perfect public see fit?

Surely allowing offenders back into society and wanting them to become productive members of society and reform is the aim of punishment?

AuntieStella · 21/12/2014 00:50

He hasn't served his time. He's still on licence, only half the time served.

Serious convictions formally disqualify you from a number of professions. They also act as an effective bar to a number of others.

As he is finding out, serious sex offences and positions in which you are a role model for children don't mix.

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 01:02

It's not exactly his fault that he has been released on licence, is it? I think we are threading on dangerous ground when we perscecute released prisnors because we disagree with the time they have served. What was he supposed to do? Ask to stay?

As for careers that we are barred from, football isn't one of them. He plays the game with other men in front of larger crowds. I think in some ways ots safer to have him there then elsewhere.

As for a role model for children- while I personally find rape abhorrent I do think that he raises important issues for discussion with young people and if he truly reforms can be used teach a valuable lesson about that, rather than one about the unforgiving nature of society.

Clarabumps · 21/12/2014 01:04

Well said auntie Stella.

Mrsantithetic · 21/12/2014 01:06

Oh another reason to be so proud of my town.

Goodie. Confused

MunningCockery · 21/12/2014 01:07

Meirasa

Has he not served his time for the crime he committed.

NO, still serving it.

Is he a free man now, but only allowed to be free in the ways that we the perfect public see fit?

NO, not a 'free man' - is released on licence whilst still serving sentance; has to report to police/parole every X days; has had passport removed and not allowed to travel.

HTH.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 21/12/2014 01:14

The crime he committed is an unforgivable one.

Those who saying he has done his time and should be able to build up his life would you trust him caring for AOP in nursing homes or a caretaker in a school.

Vile creature like Ched should not be able to have a job in which he is seen as a role model for the younger generation.

LuannDelaney · 21/12/2014 01:14

Actually why should society forgive a man who has not just not apologised but allowed his victim to be harassed?
Sorry for the double negative.

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 01:18

He would not be breaking the terms of being on licence by playing football though would he?. He isn't committing another crime by wanting to do so. He is adhering to his licence conditions. He is no longer imprisoned and yet we want to add conditions to his being on licence that don't exist.

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 01:20

So now he is to blame for the harassment of that poor girl by other people who are not him?

YonicSleighdriver · 21/12/2014 01:21

"if he truly reforms can be used teach a valuable lesson about that, rather than one about the unforgiving nature of society."

Has he made any effort to truly reform, do you think?

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 01:23

Also society punished him, he owed society the time in prison required by the justice system. YOu don't have to like him but as far as I know every prisoner released doesn't have to apologies to us all before we allow them to reintegrate into society?

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 21/12/2014 01:23

Meirasa if you owned a business where the majority of your client base was women ( I'm think spa or hairdresser) would you employ him.

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 01:27

Has he made any effort to truly reform, do you think?

I don't think it's mine or anyone else s place to judge him unless they know him. I don't think from reading newspapers or watching TV that I can truly know if he is reformed, so am unwilling to make that judgement. I think the only way we will know is if he is given the chance to do so and to live a life.

Meirasa · 21/12/2014 01:30

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange

He's not asking to work in an environment with only a female client base, in fact quite the opposite, so really the question and any possible answer I could give has little baring. In a football environment a number of managers seem to want to give him a chance and they know him better then I do.

LuannDelaney · 21/12/2014 01:37

Well he could have had a word with his cousin, or tweeted that he didn't want her to be the victim of harassment. Instead of setting up a creepy website to justify his rape. His actions in raping the poor girl and subsequently lead me to think that he is a risk, not a person that I would pay for my ds to go and watch.

mwalimu · 21/12/2014 02:24

someone said earlier in the thread that TESCO sponsor Hartlepool; would definitely be worth putting pressure on Tescos, I imagine?

CattyCatCat · 21/12/2014 02:24

Wow. I am disgusted that anyone would consider recruiting a convicted rapist, like Ched the rapist. Sickening.

mwalimu · 21/12/2014 02:28

not difficult to work out, but here is Tesco customer service email address;

[email protected]

CattyCatCat · 21/12/2014 02:31

Fuck. I spent £20 in Tesco but 7 hrs ago :-(

saoirse31 · 21/12/2014 07:37

agree with meirasa. he's been released after serving his sentence, on licence and he's entitled to get on with his life. his release is lawful. This remains the case whether he apologises to the world at large or not, whether he's a scumbag or not, whether you agree or not.

This witch hunt type approach is strange? should he just never work again?

The new club managers comments are pathetic. but that's a different issue.
