to not put DS into fresh pajamas every night?

I'm trying to cut down on the amount of washing we do. WIBU to put him in worn pajamas? He has a bath every night and gets changed out of them first thing to go to school, then they just get tossed in the hamper to be washed.

Seems to me he could get more wear out of them but DH thinks I'm being a skanky skank. Am I?

spamanderson - your kids being allergy free even though you wash a lot is like anecdotal in the extreme. as for the nicest smell - grandchildren will be the nicest smell for me- dirty or clean - I don't care - I just want there to e a world left for them to live on.

Have also just realised that dd2 has been wearing her pyjamas since Friday night as she didn't get dressed at all yesterday... Shock

I hope all the obsessive launderers never complain about electricity bills. I personally detest the stink of detergent and generally use half to two-thirds of the recommended amount.

Anydrinkwilldo · 14/12/2014 11:54

Wowing at the one load a day, we wear clothes for two days, pj's for as long as we can get away with, towels get reused and sheets may get done once a month and I have 3 full laundry baskets and a wash a day going on. In good weather I can get a few washes done but I don't have a tumble dryer so it's rads and clothes horse for drying

Lweji · 14/12/2014 12:15

I love the dcs to smell of washing powder
Don't you guys realise you're just exposing your family to fresh washing powder chemicals every day?
You might as well spray some perfume over clothes and save yourselves some work, as well as resources.

I'm with you Checkpointcharlie! Washing when required or when it suddenly occurs to me. . I know I don't smell and I haven't had a day off sick in 10 years, despite being surrounded by small children on a daily basis. I have to say, to wash a towel after every use is simply obsurd!

Theorientcalf · 14/12/2014 13:42

I still want to know what's wrong with a once used towel? It's a bit wet, but the water you've just dried is clean as is your body. A towel dries. Why on earth does it need a wash? The mind boggles.

Some people obviously enjoy making unnecessary work for themselves.

Squeegle · 14/12/2014 13:49

Yes locomotor, my thoughts exactly.
Once a week is fine
Socks and pants every day. Otherwise far too much washing, cost and unnecessary use of resources, (including me washing yet more stuff)

economistextra · 14/12/2014 14:24

I wouldn't wash so frequently, waste of time, water and electricity imo, not sure mother earth would thank you either.

MellowAutumn · 14/12/2014 14:30

MrsDeVere - who gives a fuck what you earlier 'pleas' are - you are not thread police and hold no higher ground - what the fuck is the point of pages of prim 'I wouldn't do that ' without the WHY??????

gamerchick · 14/12/2014 14:36

Mrsd had a point though.. These threads always end up the same snarl fest.

Personally I like these threads.. I always have an empty laundry basket at the end of it quicker than usual Grin

MellowAutumn · 14/12/2014 14:39

gamerchick -so why post on them? this is aibu not say yes or no if you agree - MN would die tomorrow or morf in to a mc net huns :P

gamerchick · 14/12/2014 14:45

No I like them you never see them on male dominated sites. Grin

I would like to see a civilised thread about laundry one day though.. it'll never happen methinks Wink

NickiFury · 14/12/2014 14:49

"Some people enjoy making unnecessary work for themselves"

And some people don't mind feeling a bit sweaty and smelling a bit musty on the seventh day of pyjama wearing.

Each to their own Smile.

ArgyMargy · 14/12/2014 15:11

i think some of the obsessive launderers do it to fill their day. I was unemployed for about 6 months recently and I did quite a lot of unnecessary housework and laundry.

Well Argy I am a lone parent with two dc with ASD, one of whom I home educate. In my case your theory could not be further from the truth.

waterrat · 14/12/2014 16:24

I have read some crazy things on mumsnet - but truly I think this thread has shocked me the most!

People wash pajamas after one night ?! This is madness! It has never occurred to me to wash them unless they are actually dirty - stained or smelly!

And it is not being smug - just correct to point out the huge and insane damage we are collectively doing to the environment by doing so much washing ...

It is symptomatic of our crazy culture that we begin the feel we should change pajamas each night .. Unbelievably wasteful

ArgyMargy · 14/12/2014 16:26

I did say "some", Nicki.

ArgyMargy · 14/12/2014 16:27

waterrat if you want crazy just pop over to the towels thread.

NickiFury · 14/12/2014 16:33

Really waterat PJ's being washed daily has shocked you more than anything else you've ever read on MN? Hmm You're obviously on the wrong threads!

"Madness!" "Crazy!" "Unbelievably wasteful!"

mellow. There's a huge difference between saying I do x, y or z because x, yor z' than saying someone else is skanky or destroying the planet. These conversations would be so much more interesting if people didn't need to 'attack' the 'other side'.

And I care what Mrs DV thinks and she very much has a point.
