to not put DS into fresh pajamas every night?

I'm trying to cut down on the amount of washing we do. WIBU to put him in worn pajamas? He has a bath every night and gets changed out of them first thing to go to school, then they just get tossed in the hamper to be washed.

Seems to me he could get more wear out of them but DH thinks I'm being a skanky skank. Am I?

My DS (3) has clean every night (sometimes two if he wets) also has eczema and eats breakfast (usually porridge) in them - so it is needed!

Summerisle1 · 11/12/2014 18:59

Well fresh pyjamas every night would be wonderful - especially if pre-warmed. As would freshly laundered Egyptian cotton sheets.

However, the reality for most of us is that this would result in a nonsensically unsustainable amount of washing and completely unnecessary. Once reliably old enough not to pee in them overnight or spill all their breakfast down them, my dcs changed had fresh jim-jams about every 3/4 days. Same goes for my dgd.

Unless your DH plans to start doing all this extra washing, OP, I would respectfully suggest that he is being unrealistic here.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 11/12/2014 19:00

Oh you ladies are so right ! I've been a real numpty, my ds is 10 mo and since birth I've put him in a clean sleep suit and vest every single night , right after his bath. I don't know why!!
I think it started as a novelty as when he was born we had so many clothes bought for him I was worried he wouldn't get to wear them all. But now it's just more washing ....I vow to make the sleep suit last 2 nights if no toilet or food accidents occur !

I always used to wear my pjs for 2 nights before I had a baby. but now I'm a fat sweaty mess

Theorientcalf · 11/12/2014 19:03

Don't people have enough washing to do without added pyjamas?

Moniker1 · 11/12/2014 19:04

FGS change once a week if you must,

imo if DC shower or bath every night it doesn't even need that.

And NO, clothes aren't lovely and fresh as DH thinks. They are stinking of soap powder and the chemicals in fabric softener, which are being pumped into the sewage system/earth at a horrendous rate.

Just think what a horrible inheritance you are dumping on your DCs. Where do you think all those thousands of litres of rinsing water, full of detergents and 'softener' crap are going! - the ground, the rivers then the sea. Think of the sea creatures, think of the future! reminder, shouldn't post after 3 glasses of wine

Every night here... I have visions of people turning their knickers inside out when I read these threads Hmm

Thinking about it Idon't actually think that's possible. It's impossible not to judge no matter which 'side' you're on.

It is true though that people cherry pick the bits that are convenient when it comes to saving the planet. Their towels might stand up on their own and their pj bottoms might get a bit crusty in the gusset so they're doing their bit in their heads as well as less work for them but don't think twice about jumping in their cars or getting on a plane for a holiday.

Unless you're exceptionally crunchy in general the save the planet argument doesn't stand up anyroad.

spamanderson · 11/12/2014 19:27

I've been called a martyr and been told I make extra work for myself.... My dds wear fresh pjs every night. I just don't like the idea of them wearing them more than 1 night. My thinking is that their Nudey bits go in their pyjamas and their nudey bits go in fresh pants everyday so surely if it's natural to change underwear daily, why wouldn't you change pyjamas daily too?

spamanderson · 11/12/2014 19:34

Ah, I'm one that washes towels after one use too I'm afraid.... They dry your body once, then they get used on the floor to stand on for the next person (or just go straight in the linen bin again).... I've always thought clean pjs and towels after 1 use was a pretty normal thing to do!

SocialMediaAddict · 11/12/2014 19:46

Mine wear for at least 3 nights. I've never heard of fresh pj's every night.

TheRainInTheWoods · 11/12/2014 19:49

Mine get fresh ones every few days, barring wet bed nights, obv.

TooManyMochas · 11/12/2014 20:01

...DH thinks I'm being a skanky skank. Am I?...

If your DH wants them washed more he can always take charge of the laundry Grin.

We're skanks in this house. The laundry's one of my jobs and I try to remember to change 3yo DS's PJs about every five days, but he has gone longer. He doesn't sweat or drool or whatever and obviously we'd change them more if needed. He's survived fine thus far!

TooManyMochas · 11/12/2014 20:07

DS is still in nappies at night though, which I'm sure makes it hugely easier

Errrr, so washing and drying towels after one use every day for your whole life, so maybe 30,000 times, is irrelevant to the planet........all that detergent, softener and electricity - oh, yes, it evaporates into the atmosphere and the power is generated by fairies.

BumWad · 11/12/2014 20:14

This is like the towel thread. I don't get it.

Lweji · 11/12/2014 20:15

Fresh pjs every night? Confused

Both of us wear ours for the week, unless they get really sweaty.
We both wear underwear with pjs, of course.

flamingoland · 11/12/2014 20:17

everyday here... never really thought anything of it. Think it goes back to the days when my daughter used to wake up with a wet soggy nappy and I wouldn't have reused those pyjamas again. Habits you fall into I guess.

Iggly · 11/12/2014 20:21

My DCs wear PJs cleaned every few days. But they change their pants night and day.

locomotor · 11/12/2014 20:25

I think MN is an alternate universe. I have changed pjs and sheets every week my whole life. At most. Only pants and socks get changed every day unless something is visibly dirty. How do you have time to do any more? Or drying space? It seems like the most awful waste.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/12/2014 20:28

There are some really anal people on here, and wasteful too!

Lagoonablue · 11/12/2014 20:29

Once a week here. For kids and me! We bathe every night.

bigoldbird · 11/12/2014 20:35

Crikey, I am very very old indeed and when I was young not only did we wear our pyjamas for a week (as long as there had been no spillage/leakage of any sort), we also had a bath and hair wash once a week. Couldn't afford to heat the water according to Mum. We did have a good wash and I was never called smelly. I think most of my friends were the same. I love having a shower or 2 a day now, but couldn't imagine clean pyjamas every day.

FamiliesShareGerms · 11/12/2014 20:40

DS wears his PJs until they can walk themselves to the bathroom

DD gets herself clean PJs every days
