to not put DS into fresh pajamas every night?

I'm trying to cut down on the amount of washing we do. WIBU to put him in worn pajamas? He has a bath every night and gets changed out of them first thing to go to school, then they just get tossed in the hamper to be washed.

Seems to me he could get more wear out of them but DH thinks I'm being a skanky skank. Am I?

Change every 3-4 days, unless one of us has been lazy and let her wear them when she's eating and so they've actually got dirty.

NoSundayWorkingPlease · 11/12/2014 14:19

My 6 year old sleeps in his pants because he's such a sweaty kid, and rolls himself up so much in his covers, he wakes up soaking in any sort of PJ.

It's the height of skankiness according to my sister, and 'indecent'. I should be dressing him in PJs every night and letting him wake up in a puddle of sweat every day.

JuniperTisane · 11/12/2014 14:19

Nope. They boys get clean Pyjamas every two or three nights here, unless they spill breakfast on them sooner. Clean pants every night though.

Starlightbright1 · 11/12/2014 14:21

When DS was in nappies it was every night but now twice a weekish. He only has a bath a couple of times a week.

I don't think a 4 year old needs a bath every night unless they have been playing in the mud

Beehatch · 11/12/2014 14:21

Only ever change after a bath, so 2 or 3 times a week. I get as much wear as I can out of their day time clothes too i.e. only go in basket if obviously grubby, otherwise folded on the end of their bed for next time. Underwear changes daily though, obviously (and DD puts clean pants on for bed and again in morning)

Bulbasaur · 11/12/2014 14:23

Yep, growing up, PJ's were worn more than once unless you got food on them. At four if he's just sleeping in them and changes out of them, I don't see what the big deal is.

ShadowKat · 11/12/2014 14:23

PJs get reworn here too, unless they've got dirty.

MissWimpyDimple · 11/12/2014 14:23

DD is 8 and gets fresh pjs about every 3-4 nights as do I.

Shock horror she only baths twice or three times a week too.

She does NOT smell and is not skanky!

Roomba · 11/12/2014 14:25

Blimey, I can't believe you put fresh PJs on him every night if they aren't getting covered in food or whatever. I must be really skanky then (I really am not - I am far more cleanly than most on the MN threads I read)!

My 9 year old gets fresh PJs twice a week on average - he gets a bit sweaty in sleep sometimes so maybe three times a week at a push. He wears boxer shorts underneath if that makes a difference?

My 2.5 year old can go a week before he needs fresh pjs - he doesn't sweat or smell and he gets changed out of them before breakfast, so there's no need to change them more often tbh.

I wear mine for two nights usually, again I don't sweat much in my sleep and I wear pants underneath, so why create more washing than necessary?

StetsonsAreCool · 11/12/2014 14:31

Dd is 4, we change hers once a week. It never occurred to me to change more often than that now she's older Confused

mrstiggy · 11/12/2014 14:31

I used to do fresh PJs every night too for the same reason, nice clean clothes after a bath to go to sleep. Just seemed nicer . Grin
Then I had my 3rd child and gradually realised that I was making a prat of myself and making life far harder than it needed to be. Now its clean PJs every third night or so. Always clean ones for when I've changed the bed though. Bath, clean pyjamas and clean bedding are a good combo.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 11/12/2014 14:38

Well I'm glad most people seem to agree.

He has a bath every night because he likes to, not for hygienic reasons particularly although he does get mega sweaty in the summer (he sports an afro).

Always thought it best not to discourage daily bathing anyway, so it's good and ingrained, and doesn't come as some sort of shock to him when he has to at 9 or 10 like it did to my stinky brother at that age.

I'm guessing DP has a touch of the 1950's where you as Hollywood mummy should neatly iron and wash pjs every night fresh for bath time and smell of lavender before he has milk cuddles books and gently wafts off to sleepy town on the ickle diddy chuff chuff train....

He wants him in fresh he fucking sorts it so he can. Presume there's other stuff you could be doing than fecking laundry every day

HopeClearwater · 11/12/2014 14:44

Who's doing the washing then? I think we need to be told...

Footlight · 11/12/2014 14:45

Paper pyjamas are the way forward. Just remember to recycle!

BarbarianMum · 11/12/2014 14:51

Wow, mine only get fresh PJs once a week unless nature intervenes (which, to be fair, it often does).

FTRsGotAShinyNewNN · 11/12/2014 14:52

DS (5) gets 4-6 nights out of his because for reasons known only to himself between going to bed at 7.30 and me checking on him at around 9.00 he will have inevitably stripped off or be wearing a Spider-Man/ironman/captain America outfit instead (or just his dressing gown!) Grin

LoisHatesChristmas · 11/12/2014 15:07

Mine get a bath every third night with clean pjs.

PortofinoVino · 11/12/2014 15:20

I've never understood people who wash towels EVERY time they are used. FFS, all you've done is mop up water on them Shock

mausmaus · 11/12/2014 15:23

not skanky
my dc get new ones every 3 or so nights.
they are not smelly (yet)

maybe tell your dh to do the laundry if he is so keen on unnecessary clothes changes.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 11/12/2014 15:49

Actually, laundry's fairly split down the middle! I want to reduce the amount me wash 'cause I don't like it hanging around the house, not because I have to wash it all.

And er... I'm not sure what a Hollywood mummy is Confused

Mousefinkle · 11/12/2014 15:50

Well the younger two are still in nappies at night time and the pants obviously become a bit stinky/occasionally full of piss so that would be gross.

I'm in the habit of tossing pjs in the wash every morning even with the eldest though but I agree, his most likely don't need washing every night. The youngest sweats like a hog whenever she sleeps though so I think even when she's out of nappies she'll need a fresh set in the morning...

So I'd say if they're not in nappies and don't sweat a lot in their sleep then it's fine to wash every other night.

Boomtownsurprise · 11/12/2014 15:51

Sort of stepford. An ad mans version of mummy. Probably around 1950's perfect America /England. It's sounded to me like he has an ideal in his head rather than any real person.

BrandyAlexander · 11/12/2014 15:59

Not skanky at all. But....the dcs and I have fresh pjs every night. Never occurred to me that would be considered weird!!

solidussnake · 11/12/2014 16:00

i don't wear anything to bed and would think its quite strange to wear pretty clean clothing only once then bunging it in the wash...
