to not put DS into fresh pajamas every night?

I'm trying to cut down on the amount of washing we do. WIBU to put him in worn pajamas? He has a bath every night and gets changed out of them first thing to go to school, then they just get tossed in the hamper to be washed.

Seems to me he could get more wear out of them but DH thinks I'm being a skanky skank. Am I?

If children are sweating in the night you need to cool the room down (not in a heat wave, obvs, then you would adjust the bedding).

Theorientcalf · 11/12/2014 16:10

Not skanky at all! DS doesn't have fresh pyjamas every day, he gets a new pair if the ones he's worn end up with breakfast down them.

Unless you're doing washing anyway it seems pointless (and not very environmentally friendly) to be constantly washing them.

And I totally agree about people that wash towels after one use, they're wet with clean water off you're own body, FFS!

littlejohnnydory · 11/12/2014 16:38

We have clean pyjamas every night here but then one of mine is still in nappies and the older ones don't wear pants underneath. I do change my pyjamas every night too. Having said that, we do have a huge amount of washing in this house.

Why the hell would you put him in fresh pj every night, unless he plays outside in them Confused, what a waste of water and electricity. My dd is in her pj for a week, she has a bath each night, and changes out of them in the morning.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/12/2014 17:00

We have never had any illness relating to this. I bet those who change their dc pj every night (bar medical reasons), also put that anti bacterial wash in their washing machine.

Selinasupreme · 11/12/2014 17:14

My son wears his until they are dirty or marked, sometimes one night, sometimes 3. I however like to wear mine until they are crusty enough to walk themselves to the wash basket. Very Eco friendly (lazy)

hellyhants · 11/12/2014 17:24

Gosh we must be awful - we wear ours for a week. Unless we get our breakfast/coffee on them...and bed linen is on for two weeks although I often wash the pillowcases weekly depending on how lazy I am feeling.

flipchart · 11/12/2014 17:30

Family of 4 here with lads of 18 and 15 years old.
It has always been fresh pj's and nighties everyday since, well forever ever really.
Everybody does the washing. It's not down to one person.

Clarabumps · 11/12/2014 17:39

Me too I'm a fresh every night person. just a habit really but it's 21 pairs a week with 3 dc. I SHOULD re use them as they're not dirty. where do your worn pyjamas go in the meantime before being reused? back in the drawer?

Theorientcalf · 11/12/2014 17:40

On the end of the bed. They get folded and put there.

ocelot41 · 11/12/2014 17:48

Under the pillow. In a pyjama case holder. Really, is this such a strange concept?

ocelot41 · 11/12/2014 17:49

21 pairs a week?!!! Really Clara that is mad! Cut yourself some slack lass and make it every three days at least...

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 11/12/2014 17:51

Well DH just says you can't beat the feel of fresh pajamas on clean skin, and it is nice. Bit like fresh sheets after a nice bath.

I get it. He can go without it, but I get it.

squoosh · 11/12/2014 17:52

Washing 21 pairs of pyjamas a week would be excessive even if you had 10 people in your household.

londonrach · 11/12/2014 17:52

Shocked. I wear mine for a week. Am i dirty. I have a shower every morning and sometimes a bath in the evening. Sometimes in the summer change mid week.

BeyondTheTreelights · 11/12/2014 18:01

I do about three days of day and night wear before i cave, have a shower and put fresh on. I guess you didnt mean poorly slatterns like me though Grin

My youngest can sometimes do two nights, if he's lucky. Eldest does about three or four nights.

flipchart · 11/12/2014 18:04

I'm doing 21 pjs and nighties a week. (Obviously I haven't got that many pjs and nighties!) it's not a big deal at all. It goes through on the economy cycle and it's lovely having fresh smelling night wear.

ocelot41 · 11/12/2014 18:11

I am curious - do the big washers amongsr you have tumble drier/utility rooms? Cos having that lot hanging around my flat all winter would drive me mad!

damibasiamille · 11/12/2014 18:11

Washing things that aren't dirty is soooooo un-green!

As for washing a towel after one use, that's just bizarre!

Must admit, clean cotton pjs/nightie feels lovely, but I can cope with enjoying it just once a week. After all, we only get one life and we've only got one planet.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 11/12/2014 18:14

DDs go 2- 3 nights before being washed unless they have been spilled on (juice or breakfast spills).
DS age 5, every night has clean PJs. Not through choice, through necessity. He has eczema, and is covered in various lotions and potions which make his PJs sticky and grubby. Plus he scratches too, which can lead to bleeding etc. So clean every night to try and reduce irritation and for cleanliness. I would love to make it every other night, but his skin won't allow that.
I change mine when they smell, so every other night.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/12/2014 18:30

Did all the 'fresh every day' people grow up in houses with tumble dryers?

I can only think that habit is a product of dryer ownership. 'We've got a dryer, what can we use it for now?', sort of like the way that once people get cars, they often drive easily walkable journeys, just because they can.

flipchart · 11/12/2014 18:34

I don't know why I'm a 'fresh every day'. I guess I was brought up that was and so was DH.
Ds1 was a right grump on holiday when we had to limit our luggage because he could only take 3 pairs of PJ bottoms so I guess he has come from the same mould.

My mum and dad had a tumble when I was little and I've always hd one since I left home at 18. I prefer to hang clothes on the line though.

ithoughtofitfirst · 11/12/2014 18:47

Ffs. Unless he thinks skanky actually means 'sensible and not a complete fucking waste of time and energy'.

toomuchtooold · 11/12/2014 18:53

Once a week here unless they made them dirty (so in practice about three times a week Grin)

We wouldn't even have enough pyjamas to do that!
