DD had a xmas card from her Dad and his new partner, he obviously wrote it as I recognise the hand writing as his and hes spelled her name wrong.

Its not a difficult name to spell.

FYI hes a bit of an absent dad, so I really shouldnt expect too much.

I'm amused to tell you that my 15 yr old had to point out to me that I was teaching my 2 yr old the wrong way to spell her name! I substituted an E for an A. Seriously ...

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 01/12/2014 21:14

Are there multiple ways to spell the name? It shouldn't matter though so I don't think YABU. He should at least make an effort.

Shock Awful
raltheraffe · 01/12/2014 21:15

I hope DD is not old enough to read and recognise the error.

Not a good show. At least DD has one parent who cares enough to spell her name correct.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:16

Theres 2 ways to spell it, one more popular than the other.

My (wonderful and very devoted) father still has to phone me and ask me what my middle name is . . .

Discopanda · 01/12/2014 21:16

I'd just be impressed he remembered to send a card!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:17

Shes 7 and she can read her own name, when she noticed, I had to make a joke of it, luckily she didnt seem that bothered.

DH is endlessly reminded by DD2 that when he signed her out of school one afternoon after they called to say she was ill, he got the spelling of her name wrong.

SallyMcgally · 01/12/2014 21:17

But I would expect him to get my first name right. YANBU.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/12/2014 21:17

Jeepers. Is there are reason? Like he liked the other version or he didn't choose the name or is a total arsehole?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:18

Disco I can give him a credit worth a tesco clubcard point for that.

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 01/12/2014 21:18

SallyMcgally I actually knew someone whose father never remembered what her first name was and had to call her to ask. I was always a bit Hmm about that.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:19

Her name was my suggestion, he fully agreed right from when we knew she was a girl.

At risk here, the name is Phoebe and he spells it Pheobe.

LynetteScavo · 01/12/2014 21:20

Well, I knew someone who couldn't decide how to pronounce her child's name. Sometimes she said it one way, sometimes another.

The best bit was, she had made the name up.

Weirdly, I quite like both pronunciations, they're both nice names. Grin

PurpleSwift · 01/12/2014 21:22

With that in mind, it would probably mildly irritate me. Not enough to post on AIBU though

LynetteScavo · 01/12/2014 21:22

I can see how he makes the mistake...you need to point it out to him. Before he gets a tattoo The longer it goes on, the worse it'll be.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/12/2014 21:23

I think there is one way to spell that name and it's the first way. Google agrees. He isn't dyslexic is he?

SallyMcgally · 01/12/2014 21:23

car Grin
OP- that is a beautiful name, and easy to spell. YANBU.

TheNumberfaker · 01/12/2014 21:24

Err, how else can you spell Phoebe?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:25

I have pointed it out, he takes no notice of me. If he gets a tattoo of it, thats his business and he can explain when shes older.

OP posts:
TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:26

No he isnt dyslexic, hes actually quite good at spelling.

OP posts:
ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 01/12/2014 21:27

Tbf OP I can think of several people who would probably make the same mistake. Just point out to him that that is not how you spell it.

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 01/12/2014 21:27

Never mind, x posts.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/12/2014 21:29

Someone has actually really misspelled it before by the way of Phoebie and Pheobie.

Good job she knows how to spell it.
