To be shocked at the dickheads in the Black Friday riots.

Woke up to lots of videos on my news feed of people actually brawling over tvs. Police men holding on to items while grown adults are trying rip it out of their arms. Men and women actually pulling, pushing and climbing on items with £30 off!

I feel sorry for the shop workers today. What A bunch of animals.

I'm watching the news and the footage is absolutely disgusting and I hope those involved are thoroughly disgusted with themselves this morning. It's appalling that people will behave like that for a tv and coffee machine.

And retailers need to take the responsibility for the hype, poor stock levels, lack of control and irresponsible selling. They should be made to pay the policing costs.

And I hope next year retailers will abandon this stupid idea and just do normal discounts. People aren't "desperate" for a new tv, it's greed pure and simple. I would understand if it was the last morsel of food for their children but not an x box.

Lambzig · 28/11/2014 13:47

Gosh that's apalling. Do you think people behave like that because they have seen the Black Friday riots in the US for years and think that's how you have to be?

So depressing.

LadySybilLikesCake · 28/11/2014 13:48

I have things in my wardrobe which are 20 years old Blush I'm not a fan of shopping, it bores me silly. I really don't get the need to 'grab a bargain'. If you didn't need it in the first place, it's not a bargain.

FannyFifer · 28/11/2014 13:48

You wouldn't catch me brawling over TVs & xbox's even if they were free, I don't know what the fuck is wrong with people.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 28/11/2014 13:50

I would be certain that no one fighting for TVs last night was doing it so they could sell it on to make money for food. If you were that desperate, you wouldn't have the money in the first place and you wouldn't take the risk.

It is also probably the not case that that was their only chance to get a TV, ie they had £50 for a TV and were buying a £50 TV. The TVs on sale would just have been cheap for the size/features/price last week. Cheaper TVs than the ones on sale will be available, they will just be smaller, have fewer features, or be second hand.

The people fighting over TV last night will have been the people on here or here [[http://www.hotukdeals.com/]] or any other website where professional bargain hunters congregate.

ilovesprouts · 28/11/2014 13:51

shocking behavior. Shock pack of wild amimals comes to mind.

123Jump · 28/11/2014 13:58

I heard some expert person on the radio a while ago, and he said that the shops like to do the 20-30% discounts now, so there will be less stock in the 50% discounts on Boxing Day!
So it isn't even good value, just hyped up by the shops to get stupid people thinking they must buy this now!
And on the christmas threads the people there seem to have bought all presents, food and trimmings for tuppence ha'penny over the last 2 months, getting all the bargains. So there really is no need for this sort of thing.
Don't believe for a minute that it is out of 'desperation' for massive tvs

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 28/11/2014 14:14

Oh my god yes. This. Yes. They're like zombies, must have the best deal, newest tv, preferably before the next person, jesus christ they're selfish greedy bastards.

MsFeckIt · 28/11/2014 14:24

Food shopping is fine today; I've already been in to one of the tesco that had police called last night because of the violence, and it's completely back to normal.

Except they've moved the fucking items again and I couldn't find it. Gits.

MsFeckIt · 28/11/2014 14:26

Oh and I heard a tesco worker saying they had sold out of UNDISCOUNTED iPads within 20 minutes of opening. People are literally so excited about the brawl, they aren't even checking to see if it's a deal!

Katiepoes · 28/11/2014 14:26

We'll all keep shopping at these stores though won't we? Sniff at the idiots brawling (they deserve it) - but can't we let the likes of ASDA and Sainsburys and Argos know this is not wanted? Their poor staff...will they see any benefit from this? The idea that some poor zero hours contract minimum wage part-timer is trying to handle a horde of zombies is plain wrong, the companies need to hear from us -THIS MUST STOP.

MsFeckIt · 28/11/2014 14:26

(I mean I heard on the TV... Bbc I think) I'll shut up now Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2014 14:31

Its been fine shopping this afternoon. More like a Saturday than a friday but apart from poundland nothing mad.

Showy · 28/11/2014 14:53

I think thankfully these people are a minority and I don't think it's a sign Britain as a whole is on it knees. Consumerism is disgutingly out of hand in some quarters but I'm trying to keep it in perspective.

This!

Idontseeanysontarans · 28/11/2014 15:25

There's a report on the BBC new channel at the moment - one lady just said she saw people in wheelchairs being pushed over Sad

DoJo · 28/11/2014 15:56

Does everyone blaming the US remember the crush when the Edmonton Ikea opened in 2005? Or the behaviour exhibited every year at theBoxing day and New Year sales for the last decade or so? People aren't behaving badly because they are trying to emulate those in the US, but because they are grabby, selfish people who would climb over their granny to get to the last pork scratching on the floor of the pub if they thought someone else wanted it. Human nature is human nature - that is the common factor here, and it is something that is played on by every big business in the world, not just those in the US.

MonstrousRatbag · 28/11/2014 16:22

True. We may have imported Black Friday, but not the bonkers behaviour-that is all down to us unfortunately, not undesirable cultural influences from overseas.

Darkesteyes · 28/11/2014 16:27

Absolutely appalling. I was actually in tears when i saw the clip upthread. This is NOT what Christmas is about. I was working in electrical retail at Christmas 10 years ago and believe me there isnt time to fart.

There will also be ppl on workfare in some of these places who are not even being paid a wage to put up with this shit.

Methe · 28/11/2014 16:35

I've been to Merry Hill today and met Dh for lunch in pizza express.. We barely spoke to each other as we were both agog out the window at people fighting over parking spaces.

Absolute madness.

MonstrousRatbag · 28/11/2014 16:37

I just don't get the madness. And it's not because I'm some smuggo who can afford to pay full price. It's that (slightly) cheaper stuff is just not worth losing your dignity over. Let alone actually resorting to violence.

It's supposed to be Christmas, not the Apocalypse.

WetAugust · 28/11/2014 17:24

I hope you are all paying attention as this is what it will be like if there is ever a civil disaster.

The thin veneer of civilisation just got a bit thinner

Darkesteyes · 28/11/2014 17:26

Just seen a report on BBC News. A lady in a wheelchair has had a telly fall on her and some have had their wrists broken.

In some cases whatever the stores have made they could end up paying in legal bills.

CattyCatCat · 28/11/2014 17:29

Supermarkets should foot the police bill for the policing of this bullshit, that much is clear. Future events should have adequate security and Quinn systems in place to avoid the feral embracing their natural tendencies.

CattyCatCat · 28/11/2014 17:30

Quinn? Queueing
