Woke up to lots of videos on my news feed of people actually brawling over tvs. Police men holding on to items while grown adults are trying rip it out of their arms. Men and women actually pulling, pushing and climbing on items with £30 off!

I feel sorry for the shop workers today. What A bunch of animals.

I'm all for a bargain, and have bought a few things on Amazon Black Friday deals this week. But I wouldn't go near any of this, it's just madness, never mind even considering taking a child along!

spiderlight · 28/11/2014 10:43

I actually felt a bit tearful watching some of the clips this morning. That's not what Christmas is about! I was talking to someone at the school who was proud of the fact that she'd queued from 1am until 5am at Game to get an Xbox One for a six-year-old who already has an Xbox 360 and a Playstation.

Behoove · 28/11/2014 10:45

Embarrassing, cringe-worthy, grabby, entitled, lacking intelligence, low values...
Feel free to add your own.

And that's the mumsnet friendly words, not the ones I am actually thinking, cos that would get me banned

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 28/11/2014 10:48

It's like the walking dead!
Heaven help us if and when there's ever an actual emergency in this country. Every man for themselves.

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 28/11/2014 10:49

And by actual emergency I meant outbreak of disease or major terrorist attack - not zombies.

mypoosmellsofroses · 28/11/2014 10:51

Don't get it at all, it's so mindless. DS has a PT job in Next, his first ever shift was the sale, baptism of fire, apparently people were just grabbing everything on the rail, not even looking at size/price, he was in childrenswear that day.
Pictures of people scrapping over giant TVs just makes me die a little inside, what a sad state of affairs

Idontseeanysontarans · 28/11/2014 10:52

I'm not one for moaning about American imports, we happily embrace the slight OTT- ness in this house but they can take Black Friday back with my blessing!!
Fortunately I only need milk and some bread today, I can go to the corner shop for that.

starfishmummy · 28/11/2014 10:56

I have revised my plans. Don't know if the shop I wanted to go to has a sale but it's on a small retail park where there are both electrical and toy stores.
Will do the ironing instead!

WetAugust · 28/11/2014 11:00

Formerbabe us right -it's obscene consumerism.

What an advert fir Britain today. Shoppers literally fighting each other got electrical goods.

Imagine what it would be like if we faced a real crisis and had those scenes repeated over the essentials of life - food, water etc

Where is the Health And Safety manager when this is going on? People were being trampled and that is endangering their lives

Fullpleatherjacket · 28/11/2014 11:03

I am shocked but not surprised.

It happened last year and the opening of new Primarks have also been susceptible Hmm

TrendStopper · 28/11/2014 11:03

I am hoping the madness has calmed down by late afternoon because I need to go to the supermarket for my normal food shopping.

Lushlush · 28/11/2014 11:05

Earlier this week there was a police cordon around several shops in our town apparently somebody who was armed showed up and tried to get funds out of the Santander bank it is such a small town where I live too. A passerby commented people are getting desperate.....

Guess we have to be on the alert and careful people don't steal our handbags/bags this time of year the way things are going.

BeyondTheTreelights · 28/11/2014 11:18

God yes, its a good example of why people should keep things like bottled water for emergencies, isnt it! Grin

WetAugust · 28/11/2014 11:18

Shopping as a national sport / religion is totally out of control.

People shouting, strumming, fighting each other......

When did this country lose it's dignity?

vienna1981 · 28/11/2014 11:22

It would be very fitting for these peasants, for want of a better word, to be made to watch video tape footage of their behaviour and see just what asses they're making of themselves. People like this make me fucking puke.

CattyCatCat · 28/11/2014 11:23

Yanbu. The reductions and items offered were not even particularly enticing, as far as I can see. I have no idea why you would be moved to brawl over £80 off a tv. I guess there are many ill mannered, feral types about.

NomorepepperpigPLEASE · 28/11/2014 11:26

I don't feel this is down to just desperation. I think it's because some people think they have a right to behave like this.

I remember a few years back in the Boxing Day sales. I'd picked a pair of boots up and asked the sales assistant to bring me the other one to try them on. Whilst I was waiting I sat down and put the boot at the side of me. When the sales assistant was on her way over, another shopper picked the boot up and asked the S.A to also fetch her a pair. S.A said it was the last pair. The other shopper held on to the boot and brazenly said ' well what are you going to do because I want them as well?' Shock as if the S.A was gong to have to choose which one if us was going to take them!

Before I had to say anything the S.A said I was to have them and took the boot back. Other shopper slopped off. Couldn't believe it.

Behoove · 28/11/2014 11:31

Desperation my arse. Who is desperate for a few quid off a television, arseholes the lot of them.

WetAugust · 28/11/2014 11:34

well I think we can say that reticence and decorum are no longer British traits

billyokey · 28/11/2014 12:11

DP works for a large supermarket - they actually closed the shop as staff were getting injured, a manager got punched!

Nicename · 28/11/2014 12:16

I'm happy I got a like lovely new jumper in Next yesterday in their one day Woolie sale.

I had only ever heard of black Friday as in 'black Wednesday' or in the amazon deals over the past few years. Why is it an all out bun fight this year? Madness.

calmexterior · 28/11/2014 12:18

It's depressing and shows Britain at its ugliest. Fights over a bloody new big tv..... Get a life Confused

Tiredemma · 28/11/2014 12:22

its beyond disgusting.

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 28/11/2014 12:22

It reminds me of that quote in Fight Club:

'We work a job we don’t like so we can buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have so we can impress people we don’t like'

Tyler Durden knew his shit.
