To silently judge all those with non capitalised usernames

QuacksLikeADuck · 20/11/2014 09:46

Consider these two usernames:

  • QuacksLikeADuck
  • quackslikeaduck

IMHO the first one is clearer, easier to read and just looks better!

AIBU to judge a username by its capitalisation and to secretly attribute the following characteristics to the owner of said username...

People with capitalised usernames are:

  • More organised
  • More punctal
  • Neater

People with uncapitalised usernames are:

  • Scatter brained
  • Always late
  • Messy

And even if your username is only one word it should still start with a capital letter!

OK I know IABVVU, and I am probably offending a good 50% of you right now! That's the point of AIBU innit?

But... am I right? Grin

Oooh, interesting. I tend to judge people with capitalised usernames as 'probably not very good at the internet'. A cavalier attitude to capitalisation is common with forum usernames in general.

ByeByeButterfly · 20/11/2014 21:16

Not true at all - my username is capitalised and I'm scatty...

BertieBotts · 20/11/2014 21:17

I'm totally disorganised and scatterbrained. And I'm VERY good at the internet Wink

Sometimes I like uncapitalised ones. They can look very nice in an artistic sort of way.

Mine has capitals because it's a name. I think if it's got more than two words, you're getting into Hi I Love To Type Like This Because Apparently I Have Nothing Better To Do With My Time And Probably A Worn Out Shift Key territory. Which is just exhausting to read, quite frankly. God knows how long it takes to type. I expect they use caps lock to create the capitals, too...

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 20/11/2014 21:18

Not sure whether I agree or disagree. Some of my usernames are capitalised, some aren't. I think that either makes me the balanced type or completely messed up.
Perhaps I should go with I agree op as this name.

BertieBotts · 20/11/2014 21:18

But not always. It's a tough call. OP of the options you put, I prefer quackslikeaduck.

CrispyFern · 20/11/2014 21:18

I'm always late and messy also. How do you like them apples?

CormoranStrike · 20/11/2014 21:23

Glad I pass muster.

daisychain01 · 20/11/2014 21:32

there's no way I'm changing it to DaisyChain01 it looks pretentious and attention-seeking

busyboysmum · 20/11/2014 21:37

I have an honours degree in English and an MA in Shakespeare Studies.

I am usually early and definitely never late.

I am extremely tidy and organised.

I loathe text speak and always notice grammar mistakes.

I'm not an expert at Internet forums and didn't give capitalisation a thought when I created my username.

YABU

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/11/2014 21:43

I had to check whether I had capitals or not. I see I do.

You may now carry on.

TommyandGina · 20/11/2014 22:00

Just testing mine as I can't remember how I set it up Wink

debbietheduck · 20/11/2014 22:20

I am organised and punctual but messy

However, I will forgive QuacksLikeADuck for her judgement as all the best usernames mention ducks in one way or another.

squoosh · 20/11/2014 22:28

Capital Shmapital.

Only the nervy and needy require the reassurance of a capitalised name.

MillieH30 · 20/11/2014 22:39

Your use of a split infinitive could be considered equally worthy of judgment Wink.

morethanpotatoprints · 20/11/2014 22:48

As you can see I have no capitals.

I am scatter brained

NEVER LATE

very messy organisation eludes me

elQuintoConyo · 20/11/2014 23:25

Oh. Where does that put me? I didn't like the capital E

ElQuintoConyo

Looks a bit too masculine, which it both is and isn't! (Masculine forms for a feminine thing).

ithoughtofitfirst · 20/11/2014 23:25

Whatevs OP.

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 20/11/2014 23:37

My use of capitals is small compensation for the pain of a missing apostrophe.

I haven't read all the replies. I was going to disagree obviously. However I then read your description and well actually, you're right Grin

UmmAbdillah · 20/11/2014 23:45

I'm scatterbrained, always late and messy... Just here to confuse things really

Bettercallsaul1 · 21/11/2014 01:04

Not a capital offence, surely?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/11/2014 01:32

Hmm, I'm obviously a bit of a mixture. Maybe I'm also compensating for a missed apostrophe, but I can only capitalise my proper nouns. Nyah!
