AIBU?

To silently judge all those with non capitalised usernames

Consider these two usernames:

  • QuacksLikeADuck
  • quackslikeaduck

IMHO the first one is clearer, easier to read and just looks better!

AIBU to judge a username by its capitalisation and to secretly attribute the following characteristics to the owner of said username...

People with capitalised usernames are:
  • More organised
  • More punctal
  • Neater

People with uncapitalised usernames are:
  • Scatter brained
  • Always late
  • Messy

And even if your username is only one word it should still start with a capital letter!

OK I know IABVVU, and I am probably offending a good 50% of you right now! That's the point of AIBU innit?

But... am I right? Grin

I openly judge people who incorrectly say they silently judge whilst doing the opposite Grin

lol, go for the judging. I'm sure we all secretly judge something or getting irrationally annoyed by?

Mine is a sentence (well a question, but can't use punctuation). It is wrong to use Capitals In A Sentence.
So, ya boo sucks. Xmas Grin

I thought about changing my username to something a little more mumsnet (with capitals and everything) but couldn't be arsed.

Which I guess proves your point Grin

Ooh no, I'm a sub-editor and hate capitals, they're old-fashioned and more difficult to read. Lower case looks cleaner and is standard practice in most style guides now, especially for digital content.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis, I've often wondered if your name is from the Amy Winehouse song, 'Me And Mr Jones':

Oh, what kind of fuckery is this?
You made me miss the Slick Rick gig
You thought I didn't love you when I did
Can't believe you played me out like this

It's almost certainly not, but reading your name on a thread leaving me wandering round the house humming it

I also have capitals but am the epitome of messy and disorganised.

Wondering what changing my username to sELFCONFESSEDsPOONYfUCKER would say about me.

You need another category for people who started uncapitalised but changed as a result of nagging from Chaos, who is the original Capitalisation Pedant.

And to answer someone's question from ages ago, yes searching brings up both capitalised and non-capitalised names, as long as all the letters are the same, so if you searched for me, you'd get both rustybear and RustyBear.

QuacksLikeADuck, you might want to take a look at your own spelling and punctuation before making judgements.
