To silently judge all those with non capitalised usernames

QuacksLikeADuck · 20/11/2014 09:46

Consider these two usernames:

  • QuacksLikeADuck
  • quackslikeaduck

IMHO the first one is clearer, easier to read and just looks better!

AIBU to judge a username by its capitalisation and to secretly attribute the following characteristics to the owner of said username...

People with capitalised usernames are:

  • More organised
  • More punctal
  • Neater

People with uncapitalised usernames are:

  • Scatter brained
  • Always late
  • Messy

And even if your username is only one word it should still start with a capital letter!

OK I know IABVVU, and I am probably offending a good 50% of you right now! That's the point of AIBU innit?

But... am I right? Grin

Now people might stop calling me tywy Smile

MindReader · 20/11/2014 10:23

My username is capitalised, see above.

I am: messy, disorganised, unpunctual, frankly... a nightmare.

Fur coat and nae knickers, innit Grin

btw, I would never capitalise someone's name FOR them Shock

AdamLambsbreath · 20/11/2014 10:23

I'm practically perfect in every way

HTH

halfdrunkcoffee · 20/11/2014 10:23

Oh dear. I am obviously being judged. I change names every so often so next one will have to have caps.
I've never really thought much about whether someone's username has capitals in it or not. It gets on my nerves when long posts don't have any capital letters a the start of sentences, but I often don't notice the usernames very much unless it's a long-running thread with a few regular posters.

nobeer · 20/11/2014 10:25

Scatterbrained - sometimes
Always late - rarely
Messy - usually.

Guilty as charged, Quack

PlumpingUpPartridge · 20/11/2014 10:25

Oddly, capitalising smug within brackets feels wrong somehow.

?

Hmm.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 20/11/2014 10:26

Hassled that was a awesome namechange!

ScrambledSmegs · 20/11/2014 10:28

My username is childish, geeky (Red Dwarf nod) and a little bit ok a lot disgusting. An excellent clue to my character.

The fact that it's capitalised is by the by, really.

cricketpitch · 20/11/2014 10:33

I am messy, (very), and scatterbrained but usually on time.

Love lower case - but agree in a very long user name it can make identifying key words difficult if there are none. However in my case it is simply sophisticated and cool!!!!! Smile

Typing on a phone means caps and punctuation are time consuming.

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/11/2014 10:37

YANBU to silently judge. Y may be being a little bit U to start a thread about it! Grin

I didn't capitalise the O and the T in mine, because I thought it was quite obvious what the words were and I thought it looked too choppy. (I may have overthought it.) But generally I prefer a sprinkling of capitals in a longer name. Short names, I'm not bothered, and like a pp, have one word usernames elsewhere that are all lower case and would look odd to me if they started with a capital.

starsandunicorns · 20/11/2014 10:39

Judge away however I am never late and very tidy

FaFoutis · 20/11/2014 10:41

YANBU sort of. I always assume they were typing while breastfeeding (or bottle feeding if you like).

StillSquirrelling · 20/11/2014 10:44

Tywysoges - indeed! Much better a princess than almost a prince Wink

I am all my capital usage proclaims me to be - although am often late due to medical issues. I don't like being late though Hmm

I find it really difficult to read some of the longer user names that haven't been capitalised, especially the ones that can be misconstrued. Has anyone ever read that thing about unfortunate company URLs?

Who cares? Grin
I don't.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 20/11/2014 10:47

I agree although I'm a disorganised mess!

Tobyjugg · 20/11/2014 10:50

Doesn't bother me as much as people who scatter capital letters seemingly at random throughout their posts.

FrancesNiadova · 20/11/2014 10:52

ihatethecold · 20/11/2014 10:56

Great link Squirrel.

GobblersKnob · 20/11/2014 10:57

I am

  • Deeply scatter brained
  • Criminally late
  • Deeply messy

But did chuck some caps in there, I don't think my old user name had caps though, if I were less scatter brained I suppose I might remember.

TywysogesGymraeg · 20/11/2014 10:57

Alas random Capital Letters are a Fact of Life these days - they are everywhere.
