I'm raging at my ex dh, he took our 5 yo to the water gardens yesterday.

Nice day out I thought. So I serve up fish fingers and veg for lunch but now dd refuses to eat them as she liked all the koi and that in the water gardens.

I'm so angry, I've got a fussy eater and this was one of my fool proof healthy dishes!

I play a game with my DS with what meat comes from what animal. We also talk about what each thing benefits. Meat helps muscles grown. ETc.

I can say despite calling meat what it is . We always called Pork porkie pig I do remember when he was about 5 with him saying " oh I thought you mean the animal chicken not the chicken you eat"

I can understand your frustration at your daughter not eating another meal but I don't think this is one of those things that should be directed at Ex

andrewofgg I haven't suggested otherwise.

My 8 year old cannot get his head around the fact that fish fingers aren't made from chicken Confused
Whenever we have them (admittedly not that often) he'll mention chicken and ill tell him they are made from fish. His reply is always "oh really? I thought they were made from chicken"
me and ds1 will reply "Erm fish fingers. The clues in the name!

This is an otherwise advanced academically child Hmm

'I am well aware that raising meat is a wasteful use of land' not necessarily. A lot of animals (especially sheep) are raised on land that wouldn't be great for arable. Unless we decided to go into rice production, and I'm not sure our climate is suitable for that.

youareallbonkers · 17/11/2014 14:36

Children are fussy because parents allow them to be. I know it's difficult with babies and toddlers and parents often allow them to eat "safe" things because they know they will eat them but 5 years old is old enough to learn to try new things. Provide the meals, remove them if they are not eaten and do not feed snacks etc. They will eat when hungry

TheIronGnome · 17/11/2014 14:48

I tell children from babyhood where food comes from- why wouldn't you?! There's no shock or surprise then, it's just always known!

YABU for having a 5 year old who didn't know fish fingers were made from fish.

CatsCantTwerk · 17/11/2014 15:05

Does your dd know where sausages and burgers come from?

MaidOfStars · 17/11/2014 15:09

He told her that koi go into fish fingers? He's wrong....

But perhaps knowing generally where your food comes from is a good thing?

Disclaimer: veggie here.

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2014 18:04

Do you give it to them for breakfast then? Well I wouldn't like to MADE to eat something I don't like. Why should a child be any different to an adult? IMO Your attitude yourareal is akin to EA and can lead to big problems as a pp has already said.

Are there fingers in fish fingers?

Is there ham in a hamburger?

Is the clue in the name?
