Romeo Beckham gets £45 grand for a days work.

How much does this family need. Burberry have paid 12 year old Romeo £45.000 for one days work modeling. I don't wear Burberry myself but if I did that would probably put me off ever buying it again. How far will this family go for publicity and money. Small change to them though. But isn't there something wrong when a 12 year old gets in one day what it might take most of us a year or two to earn?

"I'd guess RB also doesn't have millions of pounds in the bank."

No. I wouldn't think so either. However, I can't see that its relevant.

FreudiansSlipper · 12/11/2014 19:24

Well leaning the value of money is very important part of life your first job one days work you get paid way more than the average yearly salary how is that not utterly ridiculous

Secondly it is just not necessary

How many in here moan about bankers salaries

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2014 19:25

I have Bowlers. I thought it was time. I think I may have been wrong judging by this thread.

Bowlersarm · 12/11/2014 19:26

freudian in his world that won't be ridiculous. His parents have been involved in the top paying professions in the country.

It's appropriate pay for what he has done.

Not me, but that's MN for you.

OwlCapone · 12/11/2014 19:27

No. I wouldn't think so either. However, I can't see that its relevant.

Really? Even though it was you who used not having millions in the bank as a reason for not turning down a £45k modelling job? How strange.

pictish · 12/11/2014 19:27

And people are actually defending this obscenity as being perfectly fine.

"He earned it because he's handsome and ever so polite! And ooooh I just love the Beckhams! £45,000 isn't enough for a day of the little prince's time - they should have paid him more!"
etc etc

Reminds me of that Housemartins song...

The people who grinned themselves to death
Smiled so much they failed to take a breath
And even when their kids were starving
They all thought the Queen was charming

Depressing thread.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 12/11/2014 19:28

Freudian - actors and models get paid way more than the average yearly salary. The successful ones. That's how it works. If RB can command high fees then good luck to him.

I don't moan about bankers' salaries. I might moan about their actions (specifically their attitude towards risk and compliance) and I definitely moan about the tax system which allows the very highly paid to not pull their weight. But I don't moan about the salaries because, again, they are paid what their employers believe their work is worth. If you make a lot of money for your employer your salary should reflect that (and then we should all benefit by reasonable corporate and personal tax rates - that's the bit that is at fault).

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 12/11/2014 19:28

Mmm I think Stella Mc Cartney would have fallen at the first fence without her famous daddy. Her designs are crap.

When I said they came from nothing I meant they are self made.

David's dad was a gas fitter. Hardly rich.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 12/11/2014 19:29

I don't love the beckhams (especially if the bit about Brooklyn and Arsenal is true) and I do not think the queen is charming.

TSSDNCOP · 12/11/2014 19:29

I imagine the conversation went like this:

Simon F: fuck a duck Burberry are offering a mint for Romeo to ponce about in a mac for a couple of days, what do you think?

VB/DB: dunno, let's call him in from footie practice and see.

Romeo: yeah, sounds cool. Can I keep the umbrella? Are they paying enough for a new X Box, I'm sick of you making me share with Cruz.

VB/DB: sod the X box put you through med school so we can pay something back.

I think it's pretty sickening tbh. He is a lovely looking boy, all the Beckham boys are, but it's the name that gets their foot in the door. There are thousands of other good looking 12 year old boys who would love that opportunity but because their surname isn't Beckham, they just aren't as marketable,

Bowlersarm · 12/11/2014 19:30

pictish reminds you of a song in which a few singers probably earned millions (I have no idea, but a substantial amount of money) for singing a song. A tad ironic.

FreudiansSlipper · 12/11/2014 19:31

I do not agree. He is a 12 year old boy and should be treated as such

TheLovelyBoots · 12/11/2014 19:33

I'm not crazy about modeling, and I'm certainly not crazy about child modeling.

To put it bluntly, I don't think he's a particularly attractive kid. Last I checked, a really endearing smile was not what the industry was all about.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 12/11/2014 19:34

12 year olds are entitled to earn money. The Harry Potter kids earned much more at that age.

12 year olds with talents or marketability way way above the level of the average worker in the UK are entitled to be paid to reflect that (although personally I wouldn't let a 12 year old child of my own work at all, but those that do deserve to be paid appropriately).

TheFairyCaravan · 12/11/2014 19:35

Exactly that!

TSSDNCOP · 12/11/2014 19:35

There is no real difference between him modelling for Burberry or modelling for the Next directory. The only difference is that Burberry are bonkers enough to pay £45k. The Beckhams would be bonkers to say no.

No children were harmed in the photographing of this mac.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 12/11/2014 19:35

Lovelyboots - I'm not going to comment on his looks - he's a kid FFS - but I would go further than you and say I don't think child modelling should happen. But while it does, the kids should be paid not exploited.

NancyJones · 12/11/2014 19:36

Ourbabybeau, you need to fuck right off now! Are you trolling?
What the beckhams and their kids do with their money/fame/looks doesn't move me one way or the other. Nasty, vicious posts such as calling someone a little bitch from a council estate on the other hand, piss me off.

BeyondTheLimits · 12/11/2014 19:36

Isnt vbs sister on mn... Might explain babys reaction...

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2014 19:37

I am always seeing child models in advertisements etc and wondering why they were chosen. Blush

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 12/11/2014 19:37

And since they aren't as marketable they don't command the same fee. That's how it works - it's fairly transparent and meritocratic IF you buy in to the concept of modelling in the first place. Models are employed to sell stuff. A kid who will get the brand acres more coverage than virtually any other kid in the world will command a high fee.

It's not as if they were carrying on like the Kardashians.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 12/11/2014 19:38

I was just about to ask how much the house martins got paid in royalties? Or did they donate them to charity?

I think Sir Bob and Bono are pretty rich too whole they angst over poverty and need.

Well posted Rabbit

The remark about the council estate is as daft as it is baffling. Both me and dh grew up on a council estate and I think the Beckhams are fine.

TSSDNCOP · 12/11/2014 19:38

Yes lovely it's well known that in fact a face like a slapped arse is what you need to progress in modelling land Grin

Roussette · 12/11/2014 19:38

I have issues with this (NOT jealousy BTW). As I understand it, the beckhams work hard at trying to keep the kids' feet firmly on the ground (that's what they say).

Why firstly couldn't they say 'No' and let some other ordinary kid have a chance. Secondly, it is so so unfair that the other models in the Burbery ad aren't paid a fraction of that. Also Burbery's shares are dropping a lot and if I was an investor in the brand or a shareholder I would be pretty pissed off. Also, if he was desperate to do it, why not publicly give the money to charity or let him do it but not at such an inflated fee.

Thirdly, I do hope he doesn't go down the modelling route. The pressure on male models is as bad (if not worse) than it is for women and with his mother as a role model as far as too thin, I think it could be a bad idea.

I am just very surprised at them.
