DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 11:04

seriously?
I am absolutely appalled. I really really hope this doesn't mean he will ever play for Wales. I will definitely be taking part in some kind of protest if that happens.

I think I agree with you AnyFucker. I'm a natural solutionist hence my veering - apologies.

DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 20:37

I read the statement and it came over as

'Someone else has asked us to do this, it's just so he can get fit, we know rape is bad but, look, he's been to prison and anyway he might not be guilty so waddayagonnado'

Arses.

No worries, Princess.

MissPenelopeLumawoo2 · 11/11/2014 20:57

What a crock that statement is, especially this bit: The Club condemns rape and violence of any kind against women in the strongest possible terms. More specifically, the Club considers rape, the crime for which Mr Evans was convicted, to be a heinous crime worthy of serious punishment as provided under law. The Club has been assured by Mr Evans that he shares these value judgements. Hmm

He shares those value judgements, he just does not think they apply to him, because he does not agree it was rape. Angry

I think the tone of that statement says it all, they are intending to have him back.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 21:04

Of course they are. it was quite obvious from day one.

GetMe · 11/11/2014 21:09

FFS this is so bloody depressing!! That part of the statement miss makes me so angry. How can he possibly share those judgements by continuing his vile 'I'm innocent me' behaviour.

Andrewofgg · 11/11/2014 21:45

LonnyVonny to be precise he got out after half his sentence because that is what the law prescribes. He could only be kept inside longer for a breach of prison discipline which he presumably did not commit. He did not have to accept his guilt to go out on licence half way in, and loathsome as this man is I would not want it otherwise. His licence prescribes what he may not do (such as, obviously, go near the victim or contact her) and as long as he sticks to it he remains free.

There is a problem which does not go away in some cases. You don't want the perp knowing where the victim lives or works, but that means there is always a risk of a chance encounter, which would be horrible for her and not his fault.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 21:48

I want to know if engaging (or at least not openly opposing) the use of family members, private detectives and various other henchmen/women to stalk, publically denounce and attempt to out the whereabouts and identity of th victim is against his licence restrictions

Cherriesandapples · 11/11/2014 21:52

I don't think rapists are welcome in Wales!

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 11/11/2014 21:59

I am sure I read that a website or something his "friends" had put up was being investigated ...

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 11/11/2014 22:07

That statement is total BOLLOCKS!

  1. they said they have taken into consideration the public statement of Evans 'acknowledging the destructive nature of the acts, which led to his conviction'.

Have I missed something, because I have not heard any acknowledgment of this? Only an apology to his girlfriend for his 'infidelity' - but he wasn't convicted for being 'unfaithful to his girlfriend' was he?

  1. More specifically, the Club considers rape, the crime for which Mr Evans was convicted, to be a heinous crime worthy of serious punishment as provided under law. The Club has been assured by Mr Evans that he shares these value judgements.

So they accept that Evans is a convicted rapist, but also say that he knows that rape is a heinous crime, even though he thinks he isn't a rapist, even though he is a convicted rapist? They might as well say 'of course Mr Evans thinks rape is a heinous crime, but only if the perpetrator jumped out of a bush with a knife, and the lady (who of course was stone cold sober) tried to push him off and screamed NO'.

  1. . In a nation of laws, served by an elected parliament and duly constituted courts of law, there can be no place for 'mob justice'.

Unless of course, that 'mob' is the criminal's friends and family, on behalf of the criminal (who lets not forget has never condemned or apologised for the actions of those people) harassing a victim to the point of her having to change her identity twice. Then it's more of a grey area.

In fact the whole of that section 3 reads as if SU are somehow obligated to take back Ched Evans by law or something. They are not. They could say 'oh do fuck off dear' and be done with it.

tootiredtobeinspired · 11/11/2014 22:08

Perhaps the way to make Sheffield see the light is through their sponsors? If their sponsors understand what a negative impact this could have on their business then they might put pressure on the football club? Twitter/ facebook campaign aimed at the sponsors?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 11/11/2014 22:13

Tootired, there is a twitter campaign ongoing. The silence from their sponsors is deafening.

LineRunner · 11/11/2014 22:20

Anyone got an email link to their sponsors? Some of us old gimmers don't do twitrbook.

GetMe · 11/11/2014 22:31

Absolutely neverbuy that first point is just a complete lie, he hasn't acknowledged anything to do with his crime.

twofingerstoGideon · 11/11/2014 22:33

here's one linerunner.
and another

Both describe themselves as 'proud sponsors...'

I've written to both and will contact more sponsors tomorrow.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 22:37

Sheffield Utd official partners (sponsors) are at the bottom of their home page here

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 11/11/2014 23:38

Just imagine the chants @ the games, IF he's allowed to play...

something like this from the opposition:-

You've got a rapist on the team.
on the team, on the team, on the team.
You've got a rapist on the team.
on the team, on the team, on the team.
You've got a rapist on the team.
all match long!.

From his home side:-

We've got a rapist on the team.
on the team, on the team, on the team.
We've got a rapist on the team.
on the team, on the team, on the team.
We've got a rapist on the team.
all match long!.

How many players would want to play with him anyway?, If I was a player I wouldn't

DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 23:47

I really respect what has done, she was brilliant and articulate on Newsnight tonight.

Charlie Webster is getting shed loads of hate on Twitter. I wonder if Jessica Ennis is brave enough to poke her head above the parapet like Charlie did?

sashh · 12/11/2014 07:05

I understand a convicted Paedophile wouldn’t be allowed back into teaching, but that argument doesn’t stack up about footballers, he’s hardly a threat to his fellow players.

He is a threat to their girlfriends, wives and daughters, and to any female employee of the club and any fans. He is a threat because he doen't think what he did is a crime.

As for the others, did any of them spend years attacking the victims? "If that car hadn't been there I wouldn't have gone to prison it is the other driver's fault?"

That to me is the big difference with Evans.

Pramula · 12/11/2014 07:09

Agreeing with what's been said here. He should not be taken back by the club.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 12/11/2014 08:00

I might be more inclined to think he could go back to football on the following conditions:

He is not signed to ANY team until:

  • he publicly acknowledges and takes responsibility for his crime as well as for his further harassment of his victim
  • he publicly apologises to his victim for the crime and further harassment that he encouraged
  • he publicly states that he does not want ANYONE to continue any type of harassment or further victimisation of his victim of his crime (including his family and friends)
  • he do a lot of community service in the form of something that highlights that what he did was wrong and highlights the issues with consent that this case brought into the public eye.

After ALL THAT is done.. if he follows it to the letter... THEN I might think it's okay. But I don't think he will ever do it. Personally I'd be happy if these conditions were put to him by each and every club that is interested in signing him. Sort of a "do all this... then come back to us and we'll discuss it" thing.

Again I don't think he would ever do it. I am even more appalled by his girlfriend's stance on this. I do not understand how ANYONE could stand by a partner who has behaved in this manner.

Rebecca2014 · 12/11/2014 08:02

I am not surprised at this at all. Even the club supporters wanted him back.

Fact is a drunk woman is fair play for a LOT of men. There is a video recently about a pretty drunk woman, stumbling about asking five men for direction to a bus stop, out of the five men the woman asked four of them tried to take her back home with them, so they could abuse her.

Rape conviction is extremely low yet even if a man gets convicted, he can still cry he was innocent and a lot of people will still believe him. I am so ashamed of men disgusting attitude. I am scared for my daughter.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 12/11/2014 08:03

argh.. he DOES, not he do. good grief. That'll teach me to type out a post while distracted. Hmm

I also think that this girlfriend can only think that the victim is some unimportant little nobody... she is not thinking of her as a person, just negligible... which says a lot about the girlfriend's character as well. Hmm
