seriously?
I am absolutely appalled. I really really hope this doesn't mean he will ever play for Wales. I will definitely be taking part in some kind of protest if that happens.

Getme, you can use a company that DBS checks its employees.

Andrewofgg · 01/12/2014 00:54

Yonic I believe that employers forcing job applicants to consent to a DBS check is about to become illegal in most lines of work.

Bellerina2 · 01/12/2014 06:53

That's a bit scary. I don't see that it's necessary in any office-based role or even a customer-facing one if its on external premises. But if someone is going to come into my home to do something and potentially spend days there then I'd rather they weren't convicted rapists like Ched Evans!

Andrewofgg · 01/12/2014 07:25

Bellerina2 Some councils (guess who) were abusing the law to make employees consent to far more than was necessary. But I don't know what the exceptions are or when it starts and as I am at home I can't find out.

Oldham having nothing to do with the rapist Ched Evans

Excellent news X2

I suspect not much will come of the investigation into the DJ, but that statement by Latics is bloody brilliant...clear and unambiguous

Andrewofgg · 01/12/2014 12:58

The DJ was shooting his silly mouth off on live radio and there's not much to be done about it. I would like to know why the Guardian - of all bloody papers - felt it necessary to reprint what he said.

Good for Oldham; other clubs please follow. Don't wait for the rumour-mongers.

If the rapist ever plays professional football again it will probably be abroad. He will need probation's permission to travel while he is on licence but that is usually given if it is with a view to genuine employment.

AliceLidl · 01/12/2014 14:12

There was an article last week in the local paper (I'm not in Sheffield but am nearby and our local evening paper is also their local evening paper) that said he was considering going to a Turkish club. There was a quote from someone, possibly a family friend, saying that he could easily afford the airfare back and forth for probation appointments so a Turkish club was a big possibility.

Seemed a bit boastful in the way they put that across really, like they were making the point that he will still be a big name earning big money regardless of what people here think of him.

GetMe · 01/12/2014 22:01

Yonic a lot of the type of people who do work in your house are self employed though. Scary thought.

GetMe · 01/12/2014 22:05

Great statement from Oldham, makes a change from all the waffle.

DoraGora · 01/12/2014 22:24

If he ends up, like Paul Gasgoyne, playing football in China, then great. I think Outer Mongolia have quite a good team.

YonicScrewdriver · 01/12/2014 22:33

GetMe, yeah, I know but maybe an incentive to use a larger company?

sardonicus · 06/01/2015 20:54

I think the issue is Cheddar Sleeze is an appalling human being and such a bad example he shouldn't be allowed any kind of job with an ambassadorial role to kids. Which is pretty much the definition of a premier footballer, his acceptance of harrasment of his victim should be grounds for him to be recalled to complete his sentence.

But.....

Everyone deserves a right to both consider themselves innocent and appeal their conviction. And if he sincerely appologised for his actions and tried to make recompense then maybe he could be an example of what not to do.

On a practical ground turning sex offenders into parriahs, creates an underground of perverts who only identify with their crimes and each other.

As it is he seems a hateful git, this is just an intellectual question. He'll end up playing on the Vatican league or that island where only blokes are allowed that Prince Charles likes.

JohnQuig · 07/01/2015 02:39

The average attendance for an Oldham match is c. 4k. This new petition has around 20,000 signatures. Does that not scream witch-hunt, if over 75% of the signatories don't even watch the team in question?

Ohfourfoxache · 07/01/2015 03:27

No, it doesn't scream witch-hunt at all, John.

What it does scream, however, is that there are a hell of a lot of people who do not agree that a convicted rapist should be allowed to continue to play football professionally, be welcomed back into the public domain and be hero worshipped in the way all professional footballers inevitably are.

Oh, and just to top it off, he claims he is innocent - despite the fact that it was his own statement that led to his conviction. He has shown no remorse whatsoever towards his victim (only for cheating on his girlfriend), and the victim has been subject to such harassment that she has had to change her identity and move multiple times. He has not condemned this harassment publicly in any way, shape or form.

Witch-hunt? Yeah right Hmm

And I think you'll find that the OAFC petition is now over 60k, wih the FA/PFA petition at over 20k. That's a hell of a lot of people John - it doesn't matter if they are OAFC fans or not. But something tells me hat, if they pursue this, they're going to have significantly fewer fans than they have now.
