Ched Evans Should NOT be allowed to train at Sheffield United !! Wales next?

DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 11:04

seriously?
I am absolutely appalled. I really really hope this doesn't mean he will ever play for Wales. I will definitely be taking part in some kind of protest if that happens.

Yes life does go on for the victim.

She may not go out and get blind drunk, she may still do that, who knows, but her life does go on.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 18:41

Well, I suppose if you mean that she isn't dead then you are factually correct

But her life is ruined.

Perhaps he should have killed her. Would you have taken more note of that, fuctifino ?

AgentZigzag · 11/11/2014 18:45

Minimizing rape fuctifino?

How very traditional.

LurcioAgain · 11/11/2014 18:46

Fuctifino, you do know that Ched Evans' supporters have repeated revealed the victim's personal details and location online and encouraged people to hound and harrass her, despite the fact that rape victims are legally entitled to anonymity in this country? It's hard to see how one could get on with one's life in those circumstances.

fourwoodenchairs · 11/11/2014 18:48

Looks like it's educating the ignorant round 2 for us eh Any

Totesnamechanged · 11/11/2014 18:56

I wouldn't want a convicted rapist playing for my club, I feel sick at the campaign against this girl from Evans and his girlfriends cronies family.

I'm not sure of the legality of him not being allowed to play- I'm pretty sure Sheff Utd can do without him and probably could do without the negative publicity this will bring.

For what it's worth, if he does play again I'm fairly sure he will be subjected to some pretty vile treatment from the terraces, he will never return to the promising young talent he was and he will always be a convicted rapist. I hope his life from here on in is utterly miserable and I hope those around him who have minimised his actions get their cummupance also.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 19:13

Indeed, four

Just another day on Shit Street. Sometimes I can be arsed, sometimes I can't.

Fullpleatherjacket · 11/11/2014 19:18

Sickened but not surprised. Football seems to be a parallel universe.

How many commercial firms would be ready to welcome a convicted rapist into their ranks?

clam · 11/11/2014 19:32

I knew it! I fucking KNEW it!

Bloody, fucking rape apologist BASTARDS at Sheffield.

PrincessOfChina · 11/11/2014 19:39

clam I'm not totally versed in the definition of rape apology but Sheffield United's statement is pretty clear. They are not condoning Evans' behaviour, nor are they employing him (currently). Does this mean anyone involved in the rehabilitation of rapists is an apologist? Yes, they may (as much as it makes me angry) have an ulterior motive and want him to get back to fitness and score 20 goals this season, but they're currently acting on request of the player's Union in an attempt to work towards rehabilitation. They condone his behaviour and any act of rape in pretty strong terms.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 19:43

The large and most important aspect that fuels "rehabilitation" is that the offender accepts what they have done, and demonstrates true remorse for it

That does not apply here

PrincessOfChina · 11/11/2014 19:47

I'm actually going to do some reading on rehabilitation and how it works as it's an interesting topic. Is there evidence that, for example, mixing with society and undertaking a job can lead to remorse being recognised and articulated by the offender?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 11/11/2014 19:51

You can't be rehabilitated if you refuse to acknowledge that you have done something wrong.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 19:53

If this offender only mixes with other rape apologists that won't happen. This young man has been surrounded by "Yes" men and women since his formative years. It goes with the territory for premiership footballers. Do you seriously think anyone close to him is saying "listen Ched, you raped that young girl. You are still ruining her life with your henchmen stalking and outing her on a constant basis. Know yourself."

No

There is no "rehabilitation" for him unless all those protecting him and promoting his privilege melt away and let him stand on his own two feet. I get the impression he isn't too bright, so they dare not do that. the last time he was exposed to true scrutiny he incriminated himself as a calculating rapist on the witness stand.

PrincessOfChina · 11/11/2014 20:00

Interesting points. I wonder why more community work is not prescribed for offenders who are released from prison early? That would seem to help.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 20:06

Princess, have you read the Judge's summing up of the trial evidence ? Ched Evans incriminated himself as a rapist.

PrincessOfChina · 11/11/2014 20:14

I have read it. I'm trying to work out if there's a possibility that he will come to realise the magnitude of and apologise for his action.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 20:16

How do you think that might be facilitated ?

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 20:17

There is another application to appeal ongoing at the moment.

I am not seeing any acceptance of what he has done yet.

PrincessOfChina · 11/11/2014 20:18

That's what I'm pondering. It's really difficult I suppose.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/11/2014 20:18

Offenders are released early from prison for good behaviour. Essentially, our justice system uses the carrot, rather than the stick. This means prisons manage to run without daily riots, because prisoners' co-operation is bought in. It also is a handy way to manage the fact that our prisons are hopelessly overcrowded.

That is the context for his and all early releases from prison. It's about moving people through the system, not rehabilitating them. He didn't get out early because he engaged with a process, or showed signs of owning his shit, he got released early because he kept his head down and didn't hit anyone.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 20:20

What is "really difficult" about it, Princess ? Serious question.

PrincessOfChina · 11/11/2014 20:24

The question of how to best rehabilitate offenders who do not admit or accept guilt. I can only see keeping them in jail as an option at the moment and as the PP says, that's simply not likely to happen.

In my head I'm imagining a scheme where only prescribed community work is allowed in this circumstance with limited salary and freedoms. No idea if that's practical, especially beyond the length of the judge's original sentence.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/11/2014 20:25

You can't rehabilitate offenders who don't accept they're guilty.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2014 20:28

Well, we are kind of veering off the point now

Do I believe that Ched Evans spent enough time on prison ? No. Do I believe he actually had a true prison experience ? No. Do I think he is suitable to be classed as potentially rehabilitated ? No. He wouldn't be the only one though....not by a looooong way. Should he get his old job back ? no.
