DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 11:04

seriously?
I am absolutely appalled. I really really hope this doesn't mean he will ever play for Wales. I will definitely be taking part in some kind of protest if that happens.

Because I don't want to

That is really childish.

As I said, I don't subscribe to the political viewpoint of the Daily Mail or The Sun. I hardly ever agree with The Guardian or The Independent either.

But if I wanted to mention them, like you did, I'd link rather than apologising for it.

I'd also do them the courtesy of differentiating between measured sports pages articles and front-of-the-book stories.

As it happens, all sections of The Daily Mail and The Sun have been roundly supportive of Ched Evans's victim.

But if you want to link to something more suitable then knock yourself out.

YonicScrewdriver · 15/11/2014 20:01

Bit harsh, limited.

limitedperiodonly · 15/11/2014 20:06

Andrewofgg Do you think the sponsors wanted to get out and see this as the perfect opportunity?

I may be cynical, but I wondered less that they were outraged and more that they were combing their contract for a clause about bringing the club into disrepute.

limitedperiodonly · 15/11/2014 20:10

Why do you say that yonic?

Andrewofgg · 15/11/2014 20:28

limitedperiodonly I entirely agree. If SUFC don't sign on the man on they will be doing the right thing (not signing him) for the wrong reason (keeping the sponsors on board) - but hell, that's better than them doing the wrong thing, isn't it?

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 15/11/2014 20:57

Here's Billy Bragg's Twitter pic on Jessica Ennis-Hill's stance. here

EveDallasRetd · 15/11/2014 21:03

Limited, you've been here long enough to know that a great many MNers refuse to link to The Fail (actually I prefer to call it the Daily Hate), many of us use the "Do not Link", link and even more have the "Kittens" App that means they cannot link - it won't go through.

I would also be a hypocrite it I were to link to The Sun - one, because I refuse to buy it (JFT96-YNWA) and two, because I too am an active supporter of the No More Page 3 campaign.

There was no need to be a cow to Lonny, just because her ideals aren't the same as yours.

BinarySolo · 15/11/2014 22:08

My theory on Ched's gf is that while she has money, being a wag gives access to a certain lifestyle and celebrity that money alone does not.

The only vaguely reasonable explanation for her father's behaviour is that she's his little princess and has pouted and stamped her feet and got him to support him.

I also think she has redirected her anger that should be for ched to his victim because that's easier for her.

Like others have said, I reserve my sympathy for the woman ched raped.

Bellerina2 · 16/11/2014 00:04

Going back to the PM for a moment - he makes comments unprompted on non-issues such as Hilary Mantel's comments on the Duchess of Cambridge (a storm in a teacup if there ever was one), yet when asked about this issue that's the best he could come up with?

sashh · 16/11/2014 04:39

SUFC have now said they will ban anyone who has sent abusve tweets from Bramell lane.

I have tweeted them to ask them to ban Natasha Massey, Evans mother and sister, all have abused me on twitter several times, but I doubt they will be banned.

On the news this morning, police are now investigating death threats made to JEH. What is wrong with people?

YonicScrewdriver · 16/11/2014 07:44

Good stuff, Sashh.

BinarySolo · 16/11/2014 07:46

This is still speculation really but it does look as tho his contract will not be renewed.

DuelingFanjo · 17/11/2014 17:20

I am reading reports on Twitter that Paul Heaton has stepped down as a patron of the club - took his time!

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 17/11/2014 17:21

"It is with great regret that I announce my resignation as patron of Sheffield United Community Foundation.
I would firstly like to salute the bravery of my fellow Blades and patrons in resigning their positions and in particular Charlie Webster, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Lindsay Graham, in standing up for victims of rape everywhere.
I firmly believe that Ched Evans has the right to rebuild his career in football but rebuilding a career should not involve walking straight out of prison and into the shirt of the club he so badly let down.
I believe he needs to move away and move on, and the club itself needs to lift its reputation out of the gutter.
As a way of showing a lead to others involved in this torrid affair, I will be donating my fee from this month's Sheffield City Hall gig to Sheffield Rape Crisis Centre.
Finally, I would like to thank the Foundation for its continued hard work in the Sheffield community and wish them the very best for the future."

hmmmmm

He missed out a key phrase - showing remorse.

limitedperiodonly · 17/11/2014 17:30

Sean Bean is a massive Blades fan.

Has he said anything?

YonicScrewdriver · 17/11/2014 17:34

Well done, Paul.

chockbic · 17/11/2014 17:35

His girlfriend's dad is going to offer him a job.

LineRunner · 17/11/2014 17:40

The girlfriend's dad and CE are really damaging this club.

So many people showing such massive misjudgement.

Sallyingforth · 17/11/2014 17:43

The girlfriend's dad and CE are really damaging this club.

No, no, NO!

The club damaged themselves by taking him back for training. Any damage is entirely their own fault.

LineRunner · 17/11/2014 17:57

Yes, Sallyingforth, absolutely the club are culpable, but I wish that the 'fans' still backing CE would realise how he and his girlfriend's dad are actually doing terrible damage to everything around them and that includes their precious club. They ate all culpable.

My views on all the appalling behaviour are on record. I loath it and those who condone it.

LineRunner · 17/11/2014 17:58

Sorry I seem to have gone a bit illiterate. Hope you get the gist.

Sallyingforth · 17/11/2014 18:03

If the club had quietly said that they would not be employing him again, there would not have been the huge outcry and we would not be discussing it now.
