Ched Evans Should NOT be allowed to train at Sheffield United !! Wales next?

DuelingFanjo · 11/11/2014 11:04

seriously?
I am absolutely appalled. I really really hope this doesn't mean he will ever play for Wales. I will definitely be taking part in some kind of protest if that happens.

Christ, give me the upfront derailers any day....

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 13/11/2014 22:11

cariads - Ched Evans was convicted in a court of law of rape. Despite this, his supporters have repeatedly hounded and outed his victim.

What do you think she could possibly say that would silence them?

Also as said above, waive her anonymity in any way, people would immediately accuse her of 'making money out of it' or some such bollocks.

wanttosqueezeyou · 13/11/2014 22:13

I think its todays culture of speaking out that has had me wondering

We quite often see celebrities 'speak out' about battles with alcohol/depression/cancer or other struggle - which is their choice and may be good for fundraising/raising awareness.

I don't think this is in anyway comparable to the situation Evan's victim is in. Sounds to me like she has endured enough since meeting Evans and being hounded by his supporters without any other expectations on her.

And that is all I have to say on the topic of his victim who I really don't think should have to explain her behaviour to anyone.

WellnowImFucked · 13/11/2014 22:16

It's relevant to this discussion as I said earlier that you will not find a footballer speaking out against Evans because a vast number of them have been in hotel rooms with drunk girls unable to consent to sex.
They may not have raped these girls but would have a lot of explaining to do if a complaint of rape was made.

Do you not understand consent? If they are too drunk to consent it's rape, that's all there is to it. There's no 'may have raped' there,if they had sex without consent it's rape.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Honestly why?

DuelingFanjo · 13/11/2014 22:20

Gary Linaker has spoken out in support of Jessica Ennis on Twitter. He's had a couple of comments about the size of his ears.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 13/11/2014 22:22

The reasons for Ched Evans victim to prize her anonymity are on Twitter every single day, for anyone to see, whatever country they're in. You don't even need an account, just go and have a look at the justice for Ched or chedwins coming home hashtag for a few thousand reasons why, not only will his victim remain in hiding for the rest of her life, but also why most rapes go unreported.

And AF agreed.

nohysteriahere · 13/11/2014 22:40

WellnowImfucked, that is a message that should be drummed into every male. Its not exactly difficult to understand [roll]

Great post.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 13/11/2014 22:54

IMO he'd go on and do it again, because the next victim would never speak out... not the way this victim was harassed and tormented.

SevenZarkSeven · 13/11/2014 23:02

I think that from upTheHammer's earlier post and subsequent attempts to explain it, it is clear that he does not consider what Ched Evans did (for which he was convicted of rape), to actually be rape.

He does not consider it to be rape to turn your cab around and talk your way into a room in order to "have a go" on a woman you have never met before and who is too drunk to consent.

And on that basis I see very little point in engaging.

SevenZarkSeven · 13/11/2014 23:04

The fact that some women like to go out and try to pull wealthy / famous men, and the fact that some wealthy / famous men are happy to be pulled by said women, has nothing whatsoever to do with any of this. That is consensual sex. Rape is non consensual sex.

How is it that people cannot tell the difference.

Is it as simple as, if a woman looks like she might be happy to have sex with one man, then any other man is allowed to rape her? Because that's what CE supporters are saying.

I find the whole thing horrifying.

Whiskwarrior · 13/11/2014 23:09

On any given Saturday night, hundreds if not thousands of girls will go out will the sole aim of shagging a footballer.

Really? And your evidence for this 'fact' please?

If that statement doesn't show someone who has very little respect for women in general I don't know what does. Because personally I have yet to meet any woman whose aim is to go out and shag a footballer. The women I know (and believe me, I know bloody loads) tend to see footballers, generally speaking, as amoral, women-hating dicks. The way so many of the Premiership lot treat their significant others is proof of that.

I don't know a single woman who has so little self-respect as to have shagging a footballer as an aim in life!

Stunned that this shit has been posted on a predominantly female forum - and yet he's not a newbie! Aren't you embarrassed to be admitting this stuff UptheHammers1? I bloody would be.

UptheHammers1 · 13/11/2014 23:21

Rod Liddle on question time, finally someone talking sense.

purplefeathers · 13/11/2014 23:22

Sky News have posted the article about Jessica Ennis on Facebook and reading through the comments is depressing. This is just one that had me fuming:

"Having read what's been written about the whole case. I think she's a manipulative woman who felt ashamed of her behaviour after the event and cried rape. Women like that make it very hard for genuine rape victims to be taken seriously. All 3 adults should have known better and moved on. It's an unfortunate affair. But to keep on punishing that young man for a drunken episode is wrong. he's taken his punishment she 's been vindicated. Now let him get on with his life."

And there are many more like this. Some stating the victim did it for money. Hmm, she's relaxing on her yacht somewhere, sipping champagne completely oblivious to all the fuss being made about this poor young man isn't she?

I despair.

purplefeathers · 13/11/2014 23:26

And who decides who gets 'genuine rape victim' status? Does a genuine rape victim have to be sober? Modest? Dragged off the street?

Don't these people realise how bloody difficult it is to get a rape case to court, let alone get a conviction? Ched Evans' victim didn't convict him. A jury of peers did.

I seriously wonder about the intelligence levels of the rape apologists.

Bellerina2 · 13/11/2014 23:28

Rod Liddle talking sense? Well I guess there's a first time for everything...

UptheHammers1 · 13/11/2014 23:30

Jessica ennis had the stand named after her in 2012, marlin king the convicted sex attacker signed and played for SU in 2013, where was her statement then?

Jessica ennis is a fantastic role model, but why jump on the Evans bandwagon and not marlin king? I just don't get it , SU patrons obviously think sexual assault isn't that bad.. King has 14 convictions

PuffinsAreFicticious · 13/11/2014 23:31

Rod Liddle, the man with a caution for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend? Speaking up in defence of a convicted rapist? Who will they get to speak up for him next? Charles Saatchi?

Prick.

Whiskwarrior · 13/11/2014 23:33

UptheHammers1

MumsNet have this little campaign thingy going, which you should probably take a look at.

It's called We Believe You and it's about supporting rape victims (of which there are many on this site) and not being a dick of a rape apologist all over this site.

Ffs Hmm

Maybe you could bugger off to somewhere where you wouldn't be perpetuating rape myths and offending rape victims all at the same time.

HenriettaTurkey · 13/11/2014 23:38

Purple feathers, comment on the Sheffield star website:

What this shows us with these minor celebs now cutting their links with United is that it is all about THEM rather that anyone else. The law says that when someone has done their time is released back into society they are free to resume their career whatever that may be. Mr Evans has done this sentence and now he is being discriminated against for his past for which he has already paid his debt. That's right discriminated against. Good riddance to these stuck up self conceited celebs. I hope United take the Jess Ennis sign down now .Let's face it, she never really supported United.

There's also a comment which may well name the victim. I'm not sure as I don't know her name...but it looked like that's who the comment was referring to.

UptheHammers1 · 13/11/2014 23:40

It's a forum for all, it would be boring if we all had the same views.
Would love to see this same discussion on a predominantly male site.

And as for Rape apologist, I havent tweeted about wanting my photo taken with a rapist, unlike a certain news presenter, surly that's the height of a rape apologist.

HenriettaTurkey · 13/11/2014 23:41

Ok, have googled the name and it's not the victim; its a 'radical lesbian feminist'

Still lots of hideous comments though.

UptheHammers1 · 13/11/2014 23:42

Please someone come back and answer why Jessica and Charlie didn't feel the same way about marlon king playing for SU.

Bellerina2 · 13/11/2014 23:43

would love to see this discussion on a predominantly male site

You have a very low opinion of your fellow males if you think they'd all support a convicted rapist.

Whiskwarrior · 13/11/2014 23:45

And as for Rape apologist, I havent tweeted about wanting my photo taken with a rapist, unlike a certain news presenter, surly that's the height of a rape apologist.

You have tried to divert the discussion away from convicted rapist ched evans again and again by banging on about Charlie Webster (as if that's the important thing here) and you have also stated that you don't think CE is guilty of rape and that the evidence doesn't stack up.

If it walks like a duck...

Whiskwarrior · 13/11/2014 23:46

Oh, look, the duck is diverting again!

Quelle surprise Hmm
