This weekend many people in labour have turned against edd. I think its just too late to replace him and we should support him to stop the other two getting in
The has tag has been hijacked I think, not sure if it is genuine.

He comes across as a sixth former, he stabbed his brother in the back and he thinks its a good idea to speak for an hour without any notes. He's a prat!

Perhaps they actually don't want to win?

I do not think they want to be seen as the party that has to continue to make cuts. Their policies are still not well known, so all too easily look like a void (or at least have not been transparently costed, as the excuse of 'nearer the time' doesn't wash now).

It's the same ing over and over again: the Tories do the hard and unpopular work to make the country more solvent, Labour then spend it. Repeat ad infinitum.

Exactly what I think. No way will I vote Labour in the next election.

Mony-charisma, style and charm ??? Not IMHO-one came over like Hyacinth Bucket and the other smarmy, grinning and perma- tanned.

To those who say Ed is an idiot-can you give evidence for your opinion or do you just think he looks a bit geeky?
Personally I think he is better than the alternatives and its a bit late for a change before the elections now - but some of the very personable people in the shadow cabinet could come forward more in the campaign.
Remember that this is not a presidential campaign-we will be voting for parties and policies.
I am beginning to wonder about some of these political threads-whether politicians and journalists are sounding out opinion.

Mony? that should read Maggie and Tony but they do rather morph!

Arf. I take it you don't live in Brighton then?

Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper, Harriet Harman -for starters

Yadnbu. This is definitely the way forward. We need to get the Tories out, and at any cost tbh.

YC is married to Balls still I guess? If so she's out for leader for that reason alone. I like Alan Johnson.

Yvette Cooper -no immigration controls
Andy Burnham -mid staffs
Harriet Harman -really?
and they are the best Labour can do

Report
drudgetrudy · 10/11/2014 09:23

Well I think they are pretty good overall, also like Alan Johnson. Who do you think the Tories or Lib Dems have to offer-what's the best they can do?

Report
Callani · 10/11/2014 09:29

No, sorry but there's no way I can vote for Ed. He stabbed his own brother in the back and used trickery to make sure the union votes got him the leadership - imagine what he'd do once in power.

I'll be voting for Lib Dems next time (despite the huge student betrayal) unless a new, credible party forms in the next few months...

No thanks. I'd rather have Rick from the Young Ones as Prime Minister Hmm

Let's not forget this is the Ed Miliband who forgot to mention immigration or the deficit in his conference address recently. The two issues that are of most importance to much of the electorate at the moment, and he forgot them. Truly Prime Minister material Grin

They have not increased the deficit - they have increased the national debt - the deficit is the difference between what the government get in and what they pay out - if the deficit reduces to £1 you will still increase the national debt by £1....

Labour do not want to win this time around - there are still some nasty decisions to be made over spending, education, immigration and Europe, hence they have not changed leadership despite his complete failure to be seen as a potential PM in every opinion poll.

As an ex Labour councillor, I will not be supporting Ed. I'll be voting Green.

Drudge Ed is an intelligent man, on the intellectual side of the party. However, stating that this isn't a presidential election is not all that relevant, the public do want someone who looks and sounds right, and Ed just doesn't. I'd love it to be all about the policies, but just look at the rise of UKIP, this proves it really isn't about the policies. Unfortunately, since Nixon and the two awful photographs of him, it really has been about presentation. Foot too, was an extraordinarily intelligent (and lovely) man, he would have been so very good as a leader, but the press, and it was the press, destroyed him.

TheBody It's not arrogant to point out facts.

No. I simply couldn't vote for a party with no leadership or policies.. What's the point if them exactly? The only thing labour stands for are not being Tory. I need a lot more than that. I think voting for Ed to get the Tories out is the same as voting for someone because thats what your parents did. Idiotic. You vote for the party with the best, most realistic, policies for the time not because of historical issues or the fact that you don't like the other guy.

The trouble is because labour have come too late to the debate unfortunately UKIP have totally overtaken the agenda and are driving things.

By refusing to accept they there are concerns, either legitimate or not, about immigration makes people suspicious and feel they arnt bring regarded and that's when people teach out to right wing/left wing parties.

It's labours job to address concerns and they haven't.

That's why UKIP are gaining ground. I think it's very worrying.

dawn it's not arrogant to point out facts I agree. The facts are voters are going in drives to UKIP and just telling them thru are wrong or ignorant just fans the flames.

I am so concerned that the Tories and UKIP are heading up victory in may and putting heads in the sand won't alter that.

It's all a bit of a fantasy really, this people going in droves to UKIP. There is a vocal minority. Do you think you are going to get in in London, Southampton, Birmingham, Bradford, Leeds, Manchester. Of course they're not. They'll be lucky to get two MPs and they'll be in tiny little enclaves like Clacton.
I've stopped worrying about it quite as much as I did, and trust me, with four disabled people in this house, I need to worry!

angelos02 your view on immigration is deluded and offensive. Grow up and please, for god's sake, educate yourself.

wonkylegs How on earth can mass immigration of unskilled labour be a good thing? Unless you are well-off and your wages haven't been kept down of course.
