To be green with envy at women whose partners cook

CinnamonBuns · 09/11/2014 17:25

Not a TAAT but just read the veggie Christmas thread about the husband who cooks a three course meal from scratch Envy

My partner has never even made me
a sandwich in 5 years :(

So pissed off at having to cook every fucking meal. If I say, no you're cooking tonight, he'll order a takeaway which I don't really like.

I didn't think it was a big deal when we were dating that he didn't cook but 5 years down the line I'm sick of it.

WAAAH!

"if you read this one you'll see that things have moved on in a positive direction."

Have they? How?

ZingOfSeven · 12/11/2014 12:04

he agreed to cook twice a week. yesterday's dinner wasn't brilliant, but a good start and OP seemed happy enough.
one small step in the right direction. of course you have to be a positive, encouraging person to see that.

"one small step in the right direction. of course you have to be a positive, encouraging person to see that."

Wow. Who rattled your cage? [ grin]

We fight because dp cooks and he can't understand why I could just eat a sandwich most nights. Plus if I cook something like a veggie lasagne, he moans endlessly.

In our house, he has claimed cooking, I clean. But we do swap as needed.

Your dp sounds childish. Did he live on his own ever?

TalkinPeace · 12/11/2014 19:36

Cinnamon
I am very pleased that the logjam has been broken
Keep it light, keep it happy and you'll be among the gloaters in a year or two Grin

Vivacia · 12/11/2014 19:54

gloaters equal, respectful partners.

Hakluyt · 12/11/2014 20:08

"Keep it light, keep it happy and you'll be among the gloaters in a year or two "

Yep. Manage him. Make him think it was his own idea. That's how women do things. Hmm

TalkinPeace · 12/11/2014 20:19

Hakluyt
I do not know who has rattled your cage this week but either lighten up or just hide the effing thread.

OP started off at an impasse.
She has found a way to work round it.
Good on her.
And good on anybody else who has realised that they do not have to put up with such shit either
BUT
its a result of insecurity on both sides and should be handled as such.

Bonbonbonboo · 12/11/2014 21:12

Does he do the washing up? Mine doesn't cook OR wash up.

CinnamonBuns · 12/11/2014 22:04

To be fair to him, he does do his share of washing up. And just does it if he sees it needs doing.

While shopping today and planning the menus for the next week in my head I thought of cinnamon

It only takes a few weeks to create a habit.
Each week the pattern of you sharing food creation, possibly with toddler assistance, the easier it will get and the more normal it will seem.

CinnamonBuns · 13/11/2014 17:43

Ah that's so nice to know Talkin

Care to share your meal plan for the week? Could do with some ideas!

Today, P is out so I'm doing me and dc a chicken stir fry. Tomorrow lamb meatball bake. Saturday - P is cooking :)

I really like one pot meals. I do my chicken pilau once a week and I love it, so easy.

OP posts:
ZingOfSeven · 13/11/2014 18:57

Cin

I love one pot meals too.

stew yesterday

chicken pie today (filling is chicken cooked in bbq sauce, pineapple & garlic. with added peas, grated carrots, chopped cashews, chopped spring onions mixed with
white sauce. dead easy)

tuna rice tomorrow: cooked rice, tuna, sweetcorn, bit of garlic oil, bit of cream cheese - mix it

probably spanish omlette on Saturday for lunch, soup & garlic bread for dinner.

I really wonder what he's cooking on Saturday! Smile

TalkinPeace · 13/11/2014 21:55

tonight was odd :
mixed fish poached in milk, strain, milk made into a bechamel, stir back together
normally served with sheets of puff pastry
tonight with chips

tomorrow - home made pizza
saturday - mexican
sunday - roast
monday - soup (fasting)
tuesday - bean and salami stew

CinnamonBuns · 14/11/2014 08:21

All sounds great!

I'm wondering what he's doing tomorrow too, he asked me what I would like. Might get him to do steak and chips as he is good at cooking a steak :)

OP posts:
ZingOfSeven · 14/11/2014 08:41

no more cop outs with ready meals!Wink Grin

londonrach · 14/11/2014 08:44

We have a simple rule whoever back first after work cooks.... (Dh is a better cook than me but dont tell him that please). Wish he could do more washing up etc. he also a better cleaner but he tends to leave it then blizz it whilst i do it daily....

CinnamonBuns · 14/11/2014 08:58

Well, he's just messaged me that he's out tomorrow night for a friends birthday so will eat there...

I said well I still need to eat so can you pick me up a ready meal or something? Pssh not getting off that easy! Might get him to make the roast on Sunday!

OP posts:
ZingOfSeven · 14/11/2014 09:01

CinnamonBuns · 14/11/2014 09:03

Good point!

OP posts:
Vivacia · 14/11/2014 09:27

Yep, swapping the night is no problem. Or he could cook before he goes out.

Vivacia · 16/11/2014 08:11

How'd it go last night OP?
