to be disappointed that Cheryl Cole is now the most successful british female musician of all time

Looks like this weekend she alone will hold the record for most British female number one singles. I like her but she just has people pick songs for her and records an album in a week.

Currently the record is shared with Rita ora and geri halliwell. Ora has an amazing voice. Halliwell wrote lots of her songs and even signs many of them so her deaf fans can enjoy them.

Yabu.
she is not a musician.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 06/11/2014 09:06

Well she came from a working class family, worked her ares off to get where she is and makes the most of her meager talents.

Much prefer seeing someone like her succeed than someone like Stella Mc Cartney/Elizabeth jagger who would just rides on daddies coat tails

She isn't the best singer but she's obviously a grafter and a professional.

I admire that. Good on her.

Waitingonasunnyday · 06/11/2014 09:10

Don't worry. In my poll (of one) Annie Lennox was voted Britain's most successful female musician of all time.

Bakeoffcakes · 06/11/2014 09:15

Did they miss off a bit?

"The most successful British female, with a criminal record"

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 06/11/2014 09:19

She had a record true but she was branded a racist by the defendant and that's most Definatly not true.

Paula Cartney had a criminal record too.

Robbie Williams is far more of a twat and he can sing.

She's good at what she does. Pop fluff.

SaucyJackOLantern · 06/11/2014 09:20

Cripes. I've got nothing against our Chezza, and I've been known to sing along with the odd song on the radio..... but the most British female number ones of all time?! Really? Really really really?

What's even more worrying is that Geri Hellishwail has sold nearly as many as Chezza.

Stealthpolarbear · 06/11/2014 09:28

Ah ues of course re madonna thanks.
agree with annie lennox!!

Sockstealer · 06/11/2014 09:33

I think people are being unfairly nasty about her. She can't really help being blessed with a nice appearance, and she enhances it as a lot if people who had the money would by using good make up, hair stylists etc.

Assaulting the toilet attendant what disgusting behaviour but it was 10 years ago. She may have changed a lot.

Girls Aloud were an ok girl band and did well.

Having said all that, my personal opinion is that she can't sing a note and I'm sure she knows that. I don't particularly think she's anyone to be admired or looked up to, but aside from the incident years ago she's fairly non offensive and she's had a rough time in her personal life with her family and ex husband.

She's using the platform of X factor, girls aloud, and her appearance to achieve fame and fortune. And who can blame her?

I agree it's shit that there are far more talented women out there who won't achieve her success because they're plain looking. But that's a wider cultural problem not Cheryl Tweedy/Cole/Fernandes Versini.

One thing that does make me smirk is the way she keeps changing her name.

Housesoftheholy · 06/11/2014 09:44

I actually don't mind her as a person but I do think her music is pants

26Point2Miles · 06/11/2014 09:46

Is Taylor Swift British?

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 06/11/2014 09:55

Sadly Cheryl has had 5 #1 solo singles (not counting Girls Aloud). I don't think Cheryl is that bad, she has an ok voice, some catchy songs and as for the criminal record it was over a decade ago, give the girl a break but she has been very lucky in terms of X Factor and great PR. But their are far more talented singers than Cheryl out there.

Oh well the only good thing to come out of this is that she knocks Geri Halliwell off top spot. She's worse than Cheryl!

DeMaz · 06/11/2014 10:24

YABU. How dare you call her Cheryl Cole!

It's now Cheryl Fernandez Versace MichaelAngelo Donatello Versini!

PunkrockerGirl · 06/11/2014 10:27

The term 'musician' does not apply to Cheryl.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 06/11/2014 10:29

Geri Halliwell is currently joint most successful british female artist of all time?

Really?

Have you been on the Twitter again OP?

specialsubject · 06/11/2014 11:34

she can't sing. Proven at the Jubilee concert. Her 'performance' was cut out of all the repeats, she was terrible.

so she isn't good at what she does.

IsabellaPong · 06/11/2014 11:37

I like how she mimes and then acts genuinely insulted when people point it out.

kissmethere · 06/11/2014 11:45

I agree with a lot of these comments.
What did it for me was the recording of her huffing and mumbling her way through a performance and the audience could hear it while she mimed.
But of course plastic fantastic got her a job on a singing contest show...

pissinmy2shoes · 06/11/2014 11:46

says a lot for British pop music
someone with such little talent or charisma can get so many sells

hiddenhome · 06/11/2014 12:04

Oh, God, it's cringeworthy when you think of the talent that's been out there. Is this what we've come to music wise? Hmm

squoosh · 06/11/2014 12:08

She may well be breaking some kind of record by reaching 5 No.1 singles but they're the kind of songs that will be completely forgotten in five or ten years time. You mention Geri Halliwell, I'd completely forgotten she'd had a solo career, I'd imagine most people would struggle to name even one of her songs.

Cheryl 'Insert Current Surname Here' has a reed thin voice and not a lot else going for her. There are tons of great artists out there, discover them and forget about Chezza and her meaningless statistics.

toriuk · 06/11/2014 12:10

How has everyone forgotten halliwells hits?

I even posted her most recent song, sang live. The one where she signs bullshit many times for all her deaf fans

wickedlazy · 06/11/2014 12:13

Agreed Adele is a much better candidate.

slug · 06/11/2014 12:36

I think Kate Bush has had more No 1s than Cherl Kerl

squoosh · 06/11/2014 12:41

Actually I think Wuthering Heights is Kate Bush's only UK No.1. That to me proves that these kinds of statistics are a nonsense.

It's safe to say whose musical legacy will be listened to and spoken of 30 years from now.

ExitPursuedByABear · 06/11/2014 12:44

Annie Lennox gets my vote as well.
