To be a bit miffed that people coo over my Pug puppy more than they do my newborn DD

Seriously I must have been stopped about 20 times today with people wanting to touch and cuddle Daisy Mae my puppy, I don't mind as I am socialising her , but my beautiful new born gets either totally ignored or people give a quick glance into the pram look at me as if to say oh is a baby then give puppy their full attention.

Oh well at least no-one has said Daisy Mae has my eyes or nose

I've got a miniature dachshund and a border collie. The true dog people complement me on the collie. The rest of the world dribbles over the sausage dog.

squoosh · 04/11/2014 17:59

Border collies are lovely, they always remind me of Timmy from The Famous Five.

stopgap · 04/11/2014 18:01

I love both! I also have a pug. We got him aged five, and he was a reject from a family member. He's not what I had in mind (I wanted a Lab X running partner) but they are the sweetest dogs, especially with with kids. Mine's now 11 and has never been sick or sorry in his life, walks miles every day etc. but I suspect it's because he's not the most "well-bred" pug, as he has a tiny bit of a nose and is not so barrel-chested. Anyway, OP, your puppy is gorgeous!

TheFillyjonk · 04/11/2014 18:06

I'd think your baby was cuter than Daisy Mae, OP Grin The wrinkles on pugs remind me of a baggy old scrotum, their rolling eyes freak me out and they make a really gross grunting sound.

Mrsdavidcaruso · 04/11/2014 18:20

and they FART fillyjonk but still love her to bits

My Sir Ralph

psychomum5 · 04/11/2014 18:37

He is so well loved in the family, and very naughty!

He also thinks all toys are his, so probably better that we don;t have short folk anymore and they are teens and pre-teen now.

BellaVita · 04/11/2014 18:42

Mrsd she is lovely! And yes they do fart and burp LOTS! This is Kiki and she gets lots of attention when we go out (I don't have babies though as mine are grown up)

Oh love black ones thanks psychomum and bella for the pics

I adore Sir Ralph. From the moment I saw him I knew that if I got a dog it would be a pug. We got Kiki when she was 17 months, she was two last month.

I love seeing Sir Ralph's pics on FB Grin.

psychomum5 · 04/11/2014 21:09

I still think Kiki and Ralph would make the most awesome babies, and imagine the fuss then Wink

patronisingbitchinthewardrobe · 04/11/2014 21:16

Now that, I'd see as a pleasing outcome. Let the randoms fuss the doggy and keep the precious baby free of their attention and their dirty germs.

zeezeek · 05/11/2014 18:22

She's very cute! Want a pug now......

Swingball · 05/11/2014 18:29

Hats off for managing the puppy/baby combo.

In other European countries people fuss over your child. Since I got my dogs everyone here wants to talk to me. British people are weird.

vienna1981 · 05/11/2014 20:21

I don't know what to make of this. The pug is probably the ugliest breed of dog on the planet. The Boston Terrier comes a close second. Both look like their heads were fashioned by a sculptor with several left hands and no thumbs.

Your baby surely doesn't have much competition looks-wise in this instance. Be thankful you didn't get a Labrador or English Cocker Spaniel. Junior would be totally hiding to nothing then.

froootbat · 06/11/2014 02:41

:o rude Vienna, my boston terrier is beautiful! That said most people just mistake them for French Bulldogs anyway.
Also a fan of cockers though

Mrsdavidcaruso · 06/11/2014 06:19

bloody rude Vienna my Daisy Mae is beautiful (so is my DD)

A year in dog's life is 7 in human.

So Daisy Mae is about a year and a half in human terms. So that is why she gets the attention, baby will too when she is walking about and smiling and waving.

DogCalledRudis · 06/11/2014 09:58

It is much "safer" to coo and want to cuddle a cute dog than a baby. If you'd try to cuddle to a stranger's baby in a park, that would be... not very acceptable.

froootbat · 06/11/2014 11:46

I've got to say if someone wanted a cuddle with DD id be a bit concerned!

Poopooweewee · 06/11/2014 13:11

Dogs are WAAAAAY cuter than babies !! Babies are a bit boring imho.

vienna1981 · 06/11/2014 21:09

French bulldogs are also pretty grim. Chasing parked Citroëns and all that. However, I do apologise for comparing the appearance of a child to that of a dog. A little too much wine last night.

But what the hell. Chihuahuas. Yuck !
Devil's demons of the dog world. My old moggy Tim (RIP ) was half as big again as a chihuahua and twice the dog. Insisting on coming walkies with our spaniels.

froootbat · 07/11/2014 13:05

And to think that those dogs have said nothing but nice things about you.

JoffreyBaratheon · 07/11/2014 13:43

Charity ads have that effect on me. Show me a baby with flies on it, and I just want to look away. Show me a baby donkey or puppy being neglected and I'm a sobbing wreck. Sorry, babies with flies on.

But yes. It's a no-brainer.

And as the 'owner' of a 9 week old puppy who is giving me sleepless nights, weeing anywhere but outside, and having mad, bitey half hours of furious cannonballing around the house insanity.... how on earth are you coping? I was in Dogs Trust not long before we picjed up our pup and overheard them sitting down a young woman and telling her they wouldn't re-home a dog to her, as she was pregnant. (It asks you if you have any major life changes coming up, on the forms). Now coming to the end of our first week in 14 years with a pup in the house - I can totally see why! Kudos to you for doing it, though.

JoffreyBaratheon · 07/11/2014 13:46

I horrified my husband last week when he said that picking up our new puppy was almost as exciting as bringing a new baby home. When I said "What are you on about? Getting a puppy is WAY more exciting than having a baby!" But then I had 5 babies, so the shine did come off it a bit...
