To be a bit miffed that people coo over my Pug puppy more than they do my newborn DD

Seriously I must have been stopped about 20 times today with people wanting to touch and cuddle Daisy Mae my puppy, I don't mind as I am socialising her , but my beautiful new born gets either totally ignored or people give a quick glance into the pram look at me as if to say oh is a baby then give puppy their full attention.

Oh well at least no-one has said Daisy Mae has my eyes or nose

It's probably out of sympathy in the knowledge the dog will live a life blighted by it's deformities

Whippet81 · 04/11/2014 09:25

Shitty tattoo - looks like a shitty attitude as well. Don't think OP was after a discussion on the failings of the KC breed standards.

OP I have a three week old baby and an elderly, greying, lame ex-racing greyhound. He still gets far more attention so you've had it with a pug puppy I'm afraid.

I must admit I go silly over puppies/dogs but I've never been one for babies other than my own.

PumpkinsMummy · 04/11/2014 10:25

Adorable, and agree with others, unless you let me hold, sniff and kiss your newborn it will not be as interesting to me as your puppy, sorry! But I'm sure she is super gorgeous.

Triliteral · 04/11/2014 10:41

Assuming I knew you, I'd probably want to cuddle both. Chances are that you would be more likely to let me cuddle the puppy out in the street though, and if your baby was asleep, I wouldn't dream of disturbing him or her. I'd definitely ask to meet up later though so I could see you both better.

Congratulations by the way.

OTheHugeManatee · 04/11/2014 11:19

Wrinkly baby

Wrinkly pug puppy

Sorry, OP, but the pug wins no contest Grin

QueenBean · 04/11/2014 12:09

My god, I know all babies are meant to be beautiful yadda yadda ya. But that one not blessed with the looks, it's so hairy!

squoosh · 04/11/2014 12:19

Puppies are SO much cuter than newborns. My joy levels soar by 87% when I see a puppy, babies don't even register.

MrsFooCough · 04/11/2014 12:30

We have a little 5mo DD and a 2yo Italian greyhound girl. Here they are...judge for yourself!

MrsFooCough - That is a pretty darn cute baby, it has to be said. And look at the puppy's sad eyes dawwww... I'd say those two are about even stevens measured with a cuteometer.

squoosh · 04/11/2014 13:05

MrsFoo your baby is gorgeous...........but...............Italian Greyhound! I love those silky grey creatures.

MimsyBorogroves · 04/11/2014 13:07

Sorry, but puppies win every time. I'll visibly shrink from people who might thrust a newborn at me, but I'll run after people with a puppy on the off chance I might get a smoosh!

OTheHugeManatee · 04/11/2014 13:29

Queen The puppy is much hairier, but seems to get away with it for some reason Grin

MrsFoo I think your Dog vs Baby is about neck and neck in the cute stakes.

I wonder if we could get the OP to post pictures, of her pug and baby, so we can attempt to tell the difference judge which one is cuter?

Hoppinggreen · 04/11/2014 13:43

I'm not keen on babies or pugs if it helps.
If you had a Goldie puppy or similar I would probably chase you down the street shouting " can I cuddle your dog pleeeaaaaaase!!!"
You wouldn't get that no matter how cute your baby might be

cantcookshouldntcook · 04/11/2014 15:02

I like babies not puppies haha thought the babies nedeed a vote. Oh and op Im thinking this may have been the wrong place to look for baby votes as everyone is cyber cooing over the puppy lol

Mammanat222 · 04/11/2014 15:11

God I dislike dogs, think pugs are butt ugly but even I went "awww" at the picture {before I could stop myself}

Grin
Mammanat222 · 04/11/2014 15:12

Mrs Foo, hands down the baby for me! She is a cutie!

Mumraathenoisylion · 04/11/2014 15:14

I'm in the baby camp. mrsfoo your baby is beautiful!

Dogs are rubbish...I used to like them until I realised they are yappy furballs and if I got one I would have to leave me lovely warm house in winter to take it out and then carry its poo home in a bag - no thanks.

My dmum also bought a puppy a couple of months after dc2 was born and I have experienced the same thing. DH suggested re-enacting 'that' scene with the dog from something about mary.

Disclaimer - we never actually would, animal cruelty is not nice. They can't feel me bitch about them though so that's ok right?

psychomum5 · 04/11/2014 15:58

My pug (Sir Ralph) gets attention every time I take him out.

When he was a puppy he got a ridiculous amount of attention.....far far more than my newborns ever did!

I can;t tell you if it annoys me as I never had a puppy AND a baby......I am always just thrilled that Ralph is so very very well loved Grin

Mrsdavidcaruso · 04/11/2014 16:13

its OK shittytattoo we did a lot of research before we got Daisy Mae we are well aware of the problems she may have

Sir Ralph is a brilliant name Daisy Mae's sire was called Arnold Swartzenpugger

I never notice children tbh. Dogs, which I love I ALWAYS notice. Sorry that's just how it goes with some of us.

PumpkinsMummy · 04/11/2014 17:24

I always feel sad for my non puggy dog. Everyone always wants to cuddle the pug and she is completely uninterested and just shuffles behind me wondering what the fuss is about. My whippy cross loves people and is desperately trying to get their attention for a cuddle while they coo over pug face!

squoosh · 04/11/2014 17:31

I'd definitely prefer your whippet cross Pumpkins, pugs aren't my favourite breed in the world.

PumpkinsMummy · 04/11/2014 17:33

thank you squoosh Grin he is gorgeous. I do love pugs, but living one is a pain in the arse and they cost a fortune in vets fees.

crazypuglady · 04/11/2014 17:48

Get used to it OP. It'll never change. Your pug will always get way more attention than anything else about you. Accept it, it's easier.
