Do people really cry/laugh out loud, over threads?

Frogme · 03/11/2014 12:29

I find some threads shocking, very sad, amusing and even really funny, but I don't do any of the above.

AIBU for not reacting as extremely as some people appear to do?
AIBU in thinking people exagerate when saying these things?

I've lol-ed, but never cried.

I have never spat tea at the keyboard, either.

TheBigBumTheory · 04/11/2014 19:34

I sometime cough and wheeze if a thread is really funny.

Rinse your mince was nearly the death of me Grin

MrsHathaway · 04/11/2014 19:59

I've laughed so much I couldn't read the funny post out to DH when he asked me to share. Usually it's funny anecdotes, but sometimes just a witty turn of phrase or unfortunate typo commented on amusingly.

Wry smile or smirk would be far more common.

If I cry it's usually a happy cry (eg Matilda Mouse linked upthread) but sometimes a post triggers something in me and I have a projecting/sympathetic sad sob.

Maybe one in a hundred threads, though, either way. More restrained most of the time

I do SIOB at least once a week.

ZanyMobster · 04/11/2014 21:25

There are several threads where I have laughed out loud and DH has looked at me as if I am crazy, cutted up pear was one of them.

Sad threads make me well up but never actually full on cry. I don't really cry though at all.

LoxleyBarrett · 04/11/2014 22:51

Squee isn't literally saying squee, though, it's sort of squealing in an excited way. More of a high pitched "Eeeee!" than a squee.

So the question is do people do high pitched "Eeeeeee's" in real life once they have passed the teenage years? Grin

TurquoiseDress · 04/11/2014 23:54

Yes I have definitely laughed out loud on several occasions reading threads on MN.

In fact, a few of the replies on this thread have got me going!

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 05/11/2014 00:03

I read the trip advisor thread into the wee hours and was crying with laughter into my pillow. Even now the mention of Dillie the prostitutes discusting hole has me howling like a hyena!

Stripyhoglets · 05/11/2014 00:05

I have laughed, well more snorted, but the one thread that got me was when I was on the train and had to try and keep my amusement to silent giggles, (which made my eyes water with the effort not to look insane) was the unflushable poo and the Wire Cat Whore thread. Was still chortling when I got to work about that one. Not cried with sadness though over a thread.

TidyDancer · 05/11/2014 00:10

The one thread that is guaranteed to make me laugh until I cry every time is the small fluffy bundle one. It doesn't matter how many times I read it, I always have tears! Grin

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 05/11/2014 00:23

TidyDancer just read the small fluffy bundle thread. There are actual tears and I woke my toddler up laughing. Brilliant!

CheeseEqualsHappiness · 05/11/2014 00:24

Penis beaker and Balonz had me crying and waking the would house up with laughter!

KoalaDownUnder · 05/11/2014 01:37

Okay, after being the grinch at the beginning of the thread who said ooh no, never actually lol, not me -

I have just read the 'fluffy bundle' thread and snorted out loud like a pig. That is GOLD!!! Grin

Also, I laughed like a loon at the Balonz thread. Some v clever posters on there.

So I take it back. Grin

Riverland · 05/11/2014 01:50

Oh! Fluffybundle thread is adorable, and funny at the same time, thankyou for the link TidyDancer

slithytove · 05/11/2014 10:28

Can someone link to balonz and toilet bobble plate please

adiposegirl · 05/11/2014 11:46

Lot's of stuff on here has me laughing to the point of tears.... only on MN will you find people who can feed their family of five one chicken for a full week of meals.

Some stuff has me uneasy... that the OP has no one to talk to in RL about their situation.

I really do marvel at the stone cold bitchiness/ ugly mob behavior of some posters, particularly in the relationship section.

HesterShaw · 05/11/2014 14:23

I've just wept over the Balonz thread. It's put a happy grin on my face. How did I miss it the first time? And I thought Baylor was funny....

Hullygully · 05/11/2014 14:40

I really did cry at revies on trip advisor, and the one with beezimo and her mum. They were a joy.

what's the old korean lady one?

DoctorTwo · 05/11/2014 14:45

Just read the Balonz thread and got to "Where's he from?" 2Originally? Surrey. At least he talks about Frensham Ponds a lot."

Cue me choking with laughter. :o

I vote for the itchy vagine thread. It had everything: a typo, a failed name change and a short story in emoticons by TalcnTurnips.

Ladyfoxglove · 05/11/2014 14:59

Yes, some threads make me chuckle and laugh and few have made me hoot and bought tears to my eyes. It frightens the cat. Have a look at 'Classics' and you'll see why some people lose conrol.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2014 15:23

I've just remembered this one which made me feel quite emotional at the time.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2014 15:24

Oh the title looks rather alarming! The really snowy winter we had a few years ago, the mum was snowed in and the midwife couldn't get to her for ages.

TidyDancer · 05/11/2014 18:54

I am v pleased to have brought small fluffy bundle to more people! Glad I could help with the snorting and tears! Grin

fuzzygel · 05/11/2014 21:37

Not very often but there was one thread that springs to mind about someones partner or dh that used to wave at them across the table that had me crying with laughter. Just really tickled me for some reason.

LadyFlumpalot · 06/11/2014 12:17

I cried until I had a headache at the thread started by a lovely poster who was fostering a drug dependant newborn. The lovely poster was diagnosed with a life limiting illness and passed away. That's the only thread I have properly sobbed at. Sad
