I love it when the parents get in the spirit of it with costumes too. As long as they don't take too many sweets.

ArkhamOffett · 31/10/2014 19:57

Every faith school round here has different rules on celebrating Halloween, sqoosh. He's a proper hardliner.

MeganChips · 31/10/2014 19:57

I love it, we don't have much to do with the neighbours on a day to day basis so it's nice to have a chat and share some mutual pumpkin admiration.

No-one goes to the houses without decoration, no-one tricks and it's just fun.

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/10/2014 19:58

Same here - we got some decorations this year. Everyone only knocks on doors that have pumpkins outside and the police also offer polite notices that you can put up requesting no trick or treaters as well. Everyone is really friendly, I got to meet lots of people from our street that I didn't know before tonight. It was the first year I let DD go out trick or treating rather than just hand out the sweets inside - she was one of those cute witches and super polite 'happy hallowe'en' and then 'thank you very much!'.

usualsuspect333 · 31/10/2014 19:59

I had one little boy with big monster gloves on, he couldn't pick the sweets up Halloween Grin

Oops, Planning Fail Halloween Grin

BuilderMammy · 31/10/2014 20:01

Loving it here. It's always been DH's favourite but I was never that into it till this year. DD is 4 now and really getting into it all, and DS is a very enthusiastic little 2 year old dinosaur. The neighbours are all lovely and there's a great atmosphere. In fact DH and the kids have been out trick or treating for two hours now, I might stick my head out the door soon and see where they are - they should have been in bed an hour ago!

AhoyMcCoy · 31/10/2014 20:06

We've done a row of pumpkins outside the house for the first time this year and have had THIRTY THREE trick or treaters so far tonight!!

usualsuspect333 · 31/10/2014 20:06

I'm so glad to have found some fellow halloween lovers.

I'd watch a scary film if I wasn't such a wuss Halloween Grin

I love it!! It's just a lovely excuse to chat to all the neighbours and be sociable, and the children have so much fun. We've been to a Halloween party this afternoon where even the adults dressed up! Then dh took dc trick or treating when he finished work, now ds 5 has gone for his first sleepover at his friends house so he's had a great day! We are now eating pizza about to watch a scary film Smile

ElleMcFearsome · 31/10/2014 20:14

I really must get my shit together and attempt to carve a pumpkin next year without amputating fingers I never remember Sad so I leave the porch light on and hope that we get some trick or treaters anyway (which we do, but I think we'd have more if I followed the pumpkin code!)

Rufus those are amazing pumpkins! Is it hard to do (without losing fingers?)

darlingfascistbullyboy · 31/10/2014 20:14

YANBU

we love it here Grin ds2 (who is 8 & has ASD) went out trick or treating for the first time tonight sob I love all the kids coming around, I love pumpkins & costumes & handing out refined sugar.

I love it too! And fireworks too. Diwali, Guy Fawkes night: bring it on

squoosh · 31/10/2014 20:25

Who doesn't love a good firework display!

RufusTheReindeer · 31/10/2014 20:26

elle

Ds1 (15) did the wolf one, dd (12) did the one in the middle and ds2 (11) did the one with a baby pumpkin in its mouth

Only ds2 had help

Though I was wincing watching them, we only have huge knives!!!! I have made a note to get smaller bladed though still sharp knives for next year

This year for the first time the two oldest used a template which you can download

usual back in the good old days pre children we used to get two or three 18 rated movies to watch over the course of the evening...sometimes with friends and always with pizza!!!

Really hard to get decent 18 rated horror films now...it's all torture porn or 15 s

darlingfascistbullyboy · 31/10/2014 20:36

we're on our SECOND bottle of wine t-or-tors all in bed but fireworks (not ours ;) ) all around!

Zone2mum I'm with you ... any excuse to light up a long winter night Smile

ArkhamOffett · 31/10/2014 20:41

I'm lethal with pumpkin carving. I outsource it to DS and DH.

usualsuspect333 · 31/10/2014 20:43

I can't wait for people to get their outside Xmas decorations up.

Lots of houses decorated for Diwali around her. I do love a nice fairy light.

Lights in trees are great. Bit of magic and light. It's like Paganism is winning Winter back Halloween Wink

TessOfTheAmityvilles · 31/10/2014 20:47

Absolutely love it, the fact it's DD1's birthday (5 today - how DID that happen?!) makes me love it even more.

This is our first Halloween living in the US, where it's such a big thing, and I can't wait to take my lot out T&Ting tonight.

ArkhamOffett · 31/10/2014 20:49

I had a friend at school whose birthday was Halloween. I was wel jel!

rubyflipper · 31/10/2014 21:10

Love seeing the little ones all dressed up in their costumes. ??

Cranfieldmc · 31/10/2014 21:14

Yanbu. My kids love it, lots of fun and a chance to meet neighbours you wouldn't normally meet. Asked in twice for mulled wine and felt a little tipsy by the end of the trick or treating with my kids.

usualsuspect333 · 31/10/2014 21:18

That sounds like my idea of trick or treating,Cran. Wine
