YANBU!

We have had a brilliant night out guising. We had a load of friends round and we all went round the doors together, we only chap where the house is decorated, tell a HYSTERICAL joke and have a wee chat with the neighbours!

Loads and loads of folk out and about, great atmosphere and hot chocolate when we got back!

Last year I made up 70 bags of treats and had to raid the kitchen for the last group of children that came to the door! This year I was out with the children but DH was out, so we didn't need as much.

I love Halloween! Halloween Grin

YANBU!

I was just starting to get a little grumpy with the fireworks, but I caught myself on, poured a glass of wine and am now sitting outside watching them.

Lovely. Wine Halloween Smile

I'm going to get banned from MN.

I LOVE:

Halloween
Christmas
Fairy lights
Weddings (even those with poems and money requests)
McDonalds chips

onedevil · 31/10/2014 22:09

YANBU - we love Halloween here too Grin

Sidge · 31/10/2014 22:09

Oh and fireworks.

Bloody love fireworks.

BathshebaDarkstone · 31/10/2014 22:25

I love Halloween. We finished trick or treating at 7, tea for the DCs at McDonalds, they were in bed at 9.30. They're 7 and 3! Halloween Shock

bigbluestars · 31/10/2014 22:28

I love Halloween. It's been a great night. Had around 60 guisers at the door, - also had to raid the cupboards in the kitchen. We have just moved to a newish area so lovely to see the neighbourhood out in force. I did make an effort to decorate the front porch with skeletons, pumpkin lights, cobwebs and skulls so everyone knew we were keen to party.
My DD and her friend went out guising too for an hour and came back when their stash became too heavy to carry.
All the kids- including the few teenagers said thankyou - it's been really good.

pilates · 31/10/2014 22:32

Yes, agree I love it too!

The kids/teenagers always polite and it's lovely to watch them having fun.

superstarheartbreaker · 31/10/2014 22:41

Love it. We went to a party with a woodland nighttime lantern walk...lovely.

dashoflime · 31/10/2014 22:45

YANBU!! I just had the best Halloween ever! Ds (2) went out trick or treating for the first time. He was dressed as a scary spider! Round our way its called "guising" and the kids have to earn their sweets by doing a little song or telling a joke. Ds did his animal noises Grin
Loads of houses made a huge effort, putting up loads of decorations. We have a massive bag of sweets now!

usualsuspect333 · 31/10/2014 23:00

The more stuff that kids have to dress up for and have a good time the better, I say.

to Halloween!

BigRedBall · 31/10/2014 23:22

I love halloween and bonfire night. I love fireworks. I love the smell of fires and children knocking on doors for sweets.

I told dd ghost stories before bed. I'd decorated her bed with spooky ghost fairy lights. I love it!

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 31/10/2014 23:23

I love it, always have!

YaNbu i enjoy all winter festivals.

I did grow up in an evangelical church and respect anyone that doesn't want to participate for whatever reason. Pumpkin or decorations = yes. Nothing = don't knock. I can also see the historical roots , pagan, Christian, other.

I find bonfire night much more perplexing. I grew up with a bonfire and a guy being the main event and a few fireworks, this was the 70's and I was an under 10. I knew the history, it was drummed into me every year at school but could never figure why this one event had such an enduring cultural impact. So many catholic Protestant struggles & so many assassination attempts. Funny how this survived in this way, it's on my list to google. As a child in the 70's it was fire and fun on a cold dark night, when Halloween hardly featured, but some of my teachers taught from their view point. It did seem close to their hearts.

Since I've had my children Halloween and firework night has started to become amalgamated. If the weekend is close to both dates then it all happens at once.

I know the basic history but never followed

DS2 went to answer the door with my DM, lots of kids about 10-12 years old, brilliant costumes, lots of effort, they were really excited (hope they have a good/safe time), DS2 (3yrs old) exclaims to one of them "I'm a pirate!", boy zombie replies: "Mint!"* DS2 came back in the house so chuffed that a 'big boy' liked his costume Halloween Grin

*Not sure if it's a northern thing but incase it is 'mint' means 'great'.

Thanks OP and PPs it's been 'mint' reading your thread Halloween Grin

mathanxiety · 01/11/2014 01:41

Haha, DD4 ended up going out after all with rabbit whiskers painted on and a set of borrowed bunny ears, with her friend and friend's 5 yo little sister. She has enough candy to last her into January but it will all be gone by next Thursday if I know DD4 Halloween Grin

RedButtonhole · 01/11/2014 02:04

I love halloween! DS and I have had ace fun this year, he has been to two parties today and been trick or treating with me. Our village is good fun, the older people like having a little entertainment of an evening and even the local shop hands out "treats".

He won first prize for best costume at his school party Grin my own little victory as he had the only home-made costume in the whole school and it topped all the shop bought ones.

upduffedsecret · 01/11/2014 09:08

we decorate the front path and garden. (It's my youngest's birthday, so it's halloween outside, birthday inside. Mind you, we have halloween-type stuff all year round inside anyway...)

I like listening to teenagers shrieking as they trigger one of the sound or movement activated things.

what I don't like is teenage boys with big grabby hands who take most of the stuff out of my treats cauldron in one grab.

and someone stole our pumpkin last night.

(glad I cable tied everything else down now rather than just hanging it)

oneowlgirl · 01/11/2014 10:19

Another Halloween lover here - didn't get as many trick or treaters last night as we would have liked so lots of leftover chocolate to eat!
