Otherwise, I'd be a four foot eleven incredibly annoying Glasweigan woman with a cast iron hairdo. I'll put my hand up to annoying, but no other part of that is me. God, I hope not. Do you have to start getting a weekly shampoo and set at a certain age?

I'm nothing like MIL. She is lovely but drives OH round the bend.

FreeSpirit89 · 26/10/2014 22:28

Nothing like mil either. Thank The Lord.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 26/10/2014 22:30

I'm quite like my mil. She's ace!

My mum did she once she wondered how on earth my dh put up with me then she met his mum and it all became clear!

Minikievs · 26/10/2014 22:33

Dear God I bloody hope not! We are NC with in laws. Ugh. I do actually think that we have similarities. But she's a horror bag and I'm not. Hopefully Hmm

FoxgloveFairy · 26/10/2014 22:33

My MIL is lovely too, don't misunderstand. Just, as my husband says, tries too hard.

OP posts:
Ludways · 26/10/2014 22:34

She's lovely, I'm not! Lol

ClearlyMoo · 26/10/2014 22:36

A customer came in the other day and my MIL and I both came out if our respective kitchens (we live semi-detached/ it's a farm) in floury aprons drying our hands on them... I realised I am quite like MIL

RonaldMcDonald · 26/10/2014 22:36

I'd make a bet that you are quite like her in some ways

Agreed. I'm nothing like my MIL in appearance, personality, or demeanor.

Minikievs · 26/10/2014 22:39

I do quite like the idea of a weekly trip to the hairdressers for a set though. So much easier than a daily faff.
They can't try too hard (well they can, but I'd rather that than the absolute lack of interest, love, thought or care about their grandchildren. A small Glaswegian woman with iron hair sounds like a good lady to have on your side!

Flingmoo · 26/10/2014 22:41

I wonder if the reverse has any more truth though - do any of you see aspects of your father in your DP? I certainly see a few traits that they share. Not overall personality or looks though.

RonaldMcDonald · 26/10/2014 22:47

Interesting to examine the things you can see in her that she is unaware of
....
Not basics like how you look or act in front of others

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 26/10/2014 22:49

DH is more like my dad than I am like his mum.

Serenitysutton · 26/10/2014 22:50

I'm nothing like mine

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/10/2014 22:50

ironically dh appears to have married his father and I have married my mother ... on a very crude psychological level and not in appearance at all! Grin

FoxgloveFairy · 26/10/2014 22:52

Yes actually. Mr F does share a lot of traits with my Dad.

OP posts:
VitoCorleone · 26/10/2014 22:53

Actually laughed out loud at 'cast iron hairdo' Grin

DH has told me before "your just like my mother" this was during an argument though as he knew it would wind me up. I am NOTHING like my MIL

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/10/2014 22:54

I too strongly refute that.

My DH's mother was an all round awful woman with very few redeeming qualities and a manipulative streak of iron.

OldLadyKnowsBeelzebub · 26/10/2014 22:59

If men married women like their mums, would we see so many "I hate MIL" threads? Or, Devil's advocate, do MILs reflect the worst aspects of our own selves? Shock

I'm not much like my MIL, but I think DH has character traits I attributed to my dad. He died when I was a teen so I never got to know him as an adult, so I still have a kind of idealised idea of him.

Whereisegg · 26/10/2014 23:01

I am ever so much like my mil.
She's great Grin Wink

Ohfourfoxache · 26/10/2014 23:02

Oh fuck I hope I'm not like mil in any way shape or form Sad

QuintessentiallyGhoulish · 26/10/2014 23:02

Well, if dh married his mum, and I my dad, then my dad would be married to his mum, and that would not work. So no.

LosingAllTheLego · 26/10/2014 23:03

God no, I'm nothing like my MIL. She's a lovely woman but we just have completely different interests

I am however, my father reincarnated which is both good and bad

furcoatbigknickers · 26/10/2014 23:03

Nope nought like the old bagGrin
