you know what I hate - the assumption that everyone who posts in favour of teachers is a teacher - I'm not - I chose not to be because of the hours and the pay - hth x

Children being refused term time holiday has nothing to do with teachers.

The INSET days are not extra days

honeysucklejasmine · 20/10/2014 21:14

Grrr. "Grind". See, so bored by this type of thread I can't be bothered to type properly!

wheretoyougonow · 20/10/2014 21:14

This op has another thread about how cross she is about how her mother has treated her re: finances. I can't believe you got lots of support from mumsnet just yesterday and then you start a thread like this with an attitude that at best could be described as goady.
Sort your own problems out before starting on the people who presumably you trust to look after your children on a daily basis.

spanieleyes · 20/10/2014 21:14

There aren't any extra INSET days, we are limited to 5 a year.

clam · 20/10/2014 21:15

Oh FFS, billy BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT EXTRA!!!! You'd be covering those days anyway.

Are you sure you have a job in the real world? How do you get by with such poor comprehension skills?

I'm really curious op. Exactly what job are you comparing teaching to when you say they aren't working harder then anyone else? Or do you think that everyone, no matter what their job should get paid the same?

Teachers are paid an agreed amount for 190 hours work. The rest of their time is not holiday. They aren't being paid for it.

DoughnutSelfie · 20/10/2014 21:16

Not sure if anyone has pointed out that school ain't childcare.

teacherwith2kids · 20/10/2014 21:17

We have just announced the date of the 5th inset day this year. It happens to be on a termtime Friday - because that was the only day that the excellent trainer who we are booking for the day could come.

Inset day dates are often booked around the availability of one or several speakers, trainers etc, who can't just work in the 'school holidays'.

natwebb79 · 20/10/2014 21:17

Yeah, those fucking teachers making the decision to have INSET days and fining parents when their kids have time off! (Whispers) teachers don't actually make these decisions so please DFOD. Yawn!

Sorry, 195 days. [Blush]

stravagante · 20/10/2014 21:18

You are beyond deluded if you think moat teachers have any say in the organisation of the term dates.

There is clearly little point in engaging with you further if you remain determined to misunderstand everyone's points.

Incidentally chemistry teachers are like hens teeth...so why don't you put your money where your mouth is?

Because you are blaming the wrong people.

Teachers didn't invent INSET days, don't get to chose when INSET days are scheduled and don't ban you from taking your children out of school in term time. It is the government.

Your opening rant, and subsequent posts, show you have an issue with teachers themselves. Largely due to jealously I would have thought.

As mentioned previously www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching or desist from denigrating a profession you clearly know little about.

Yet another teacher-bashing thread - there's one practically every week. No other profession is attacked so relentlessly here.

carlywurly · 20/10/2014 21:21

I can understand the frustration with inset days a little. I look after my dcs on my own and got asked by work to swap my regular day off so a colleague could take leave that day. No worries.

That evening, an inset day gets announced for the day I've just promised to work. A month's notice. No holiday club. No family anywhere near. Bloody nightmare to cover.

If inset days were all in one block, co ordinated with other local schools or tagged on to a regular holiday, in my humble opinion it would all be infinitely easier to manage for parents and childcare providers.

That's all.
