To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

I think it's possible the rapist Ched Evans believes in his own innocence, because the rapist Ched Evans believed it was normal behaviour to come, uninvited by a woman he'd never met before into a room where a mate was penetrating said woman and ask to "have a go"

So no, I wouldn't take it that the rapist Ched Evans "knows 100%" whether or not what he did was rape. Which, by the way, it was.

Don't twist my words Yonic. If you're going to quote me, stay in the context in which it was posted.

I struggle to see how there was enough proof of her lack of ability to consent, to convict

Because she is on CCTV staggering about and falling over and the evidence of the bloke in the kebab shop and people in the hotel that she was very drunk and McDonald telling the staff in the hotel to keep an eye on her because she was so wasted.

YonicScrewdriver · 19/10/2014 16:22

The evidence of the CCTV.
The evidence of the hotel porter.
The fact that she woke up having urinated on her bed.
The fact that the rapist Ched Evans came into the hotel room uninvited by her.
The fact that she had never met the rapist Ched Evans before then.
Her own evidence that she could not remember what happened, on which she was cross examined.

What are your facts that show the rapist Ched Evans got consent before penetrating her? Oh yeah, he said so.

Yarp · 19/10/2014 16:23

Mascara

You struggle ro understand how there was enough evidence about her inabilty to consent, but the police didn't struggle, the CPS didn't struggle, and the jury didn't struggle.

Your inability to get it, with all due respect, is neither here nor there.

SevenZarkSeven · 19/10/2014 16:23

Well the CPS, members of the jury, and judges who refused him leave to appeal all said differently mascara.

Mascaramascara1 · 19/10/2014 16:23

I'm an alcoholic and as I am small it didnt take me alot to drink to blackout. It's not like a certain amount can mean blackout or not - it depends on the person

Sorry but that's just wrong - you're thinking about alcohol levels in the wrong way.

To make dh '2.5 times over the limit' (at 6foot 6, 18 stone), he would have to ingest a lot more alcohol than i would to get to 2.5 times the limit (5 ft 5 and 8 stone).

The actual amount of alcohol you drink is irrelevant when talking in terms of the drink drive limit.

The point is the limit itself. That being that for anyone to have complete blanket memory loss after being 2.5 times the limit (regardless of how much alcohol it took that individual to reach that limit) is pretty much umheared of.

Whilst 2.5 times the limit clearly makes you unfit to drive, it's not generally 'that' drunk in terms of completely incapacitating you or rendering you incapable of choice.

I pity his girlfriend- a boyfriend who is a rapist lowlife who sends his mates out to hunt down incapacitated women and a father who accepts such scum as a life partner for his daughter. What an appalling father he is.

Poor misguided women doesn't stand a chance does she?

My pity for his girlfriend is in short supply I'm afraid.

Yarp · 19/10/2014 16:26

And a mother who believes it's all a feminist conspiracy.

SevenZarkSeven · 19/10/2014 16:27

You seem to know an unusual amount about the defence arguments mascara. I haven't read anything about drink driving limits in the mainstream press. I'm not about to go investigating what the prosecution response to that was.

The rapist ched Evans was found guilty by 12 jurors who heard all the evidence.

A slight hijack - Why do some posters on MN keep repeating the phrase "the rapist Ched Evans"? We know what he has been convicted of - I'm not sure why it needs to be repeated every time his name is used in some posts. Is it because we're very stupid and can't recall his crime from one sentence to the next? Confused It makes otherwise articulate and intelligent posts sound bizarrely dumbed down.

Yes. He was convicted of rape, he admits to behaviour that, whether he is too stupid to understand or not, is rape, and therefore he is a rapist.

I don't think it hurts to hammer that point home.
