To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

The Twitter postings were five months after the attack for one and could be about anything, she hadn't received a payout! She has had to move home and be given a new identity due to the constant threats and harassment... That's great compensation....

purplefeathers · 24/10/2014 09:56

What, the 'when i win big' tweets that were uncovered by some American guy? No one knows (a) that the victim posted them or (b) to what they referred.

There's no weight behind them because she didn't win big. Going to court as a rape victim is no way to 'win big'. Its a way for your attackers to face justice.

Tiredemma · 24/10/2014 09:57

'Writing a book' ??

Judging by his video I would be amazed if he could write his own name. In crayon.

His GF is extremely pathetic.

I am pleased that his old club are refusing to sell shirts with his name/number on. I sincerely hope that he is not re-signed.

HexBramble · 24/10/2014 10:00

Purple and 5Madthings - thank you. I understand that now.

I hate that I'm having to really argue this case with my nearest and dearest. We have 3 DD's too.... Sad

HexBramble · 24/10/2014 10:01

That said, I'll argue til I'm blue in the face.

That poor girl...

DuelingFanjo · 24/10/2014 10:05

CE (and his girlfriend) is using this as a way to extend his 'fame' imo, which is disgusting.

sashh · 24/10/2014 10:05

Hex

Ask if they would rape? Then ask why they are making excuses for someone else?

What would they do if they found a drunk teenager at a taxi rank? Then ask them why they are excusing another man?

YonicScrewdriver · 24/10/2014 10:11

Point out to them that when she called the police, she had no idea what had happened to her other than she had woken up alone with her bag missing. She never claimed a footballer raped her until other evidence showed that they were there and they admitted to penetrating her.

Point out that when she went to the hotel with CM, she had no idea CE was going to invite himself along.

Ask them when you've heard of rape claimants actually "winning big" - where are all these rich victims with £1m compensation?

Ask them if a friend of theirs had been hit by CE in a drunk driver incident, would any compensation for injuries negate the fact that they had been injured by an irresponsible drunk? Negate the crime that had been committed?

purplefeathers · 24/10/2014 10:12

The family wanted to use evidence regarding the victim's previous sexual behaviour during the trial but said they could only have done that if the prosecution had painted her as 'whiter than white' which they didn't (at least that's how i understand it from their jokesite website.)

These people must therefore really believe that a woman who has had sex, and enjoyed sex, with many people cannot be raped. That's a scary ideology. Whatever the victim did or said before or after the rape has no bearing on anything that happened on that night.

Two people were responsible for what happened. One was acquitted and one was convicted of rape.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 24/10/2014 10:32

The 'when I win big' tweets - and we don't even know if she actually wrote them, or what she was referring to- being used as some sort of proof that this wasn't rape is laughable. It's also very ironic, when Ched and Natasha's families have spent a fortune on legal representation, publicity campaigns, employed PIs, funded websites, and even offered £10k reward for information. The victim has done anything but win big here.

Who on earth do they think is going to come forward to claim the 10k? Another person saying 'she's a slaaaaag, so it can't of bin rape' ? They know who was present at the hotel - that's what matters. Ched incriminated himself - he just doesn't want to believe that what he did was rape. Because rapists to Ched Evans and his clan, are saddo men with fangs and a knife - not rich footballers who "could have any girl he wanted".

WellnowImFucked · 24/10/2014 10:33

It is terrifying how many people still have this idea in this day and age.

purplefeathers · 24/10/2014 10:45

Oh I know wellnow. Like how prostitutes can't be raped because they're 'fair game'.

And if a woman does consent then she can't change her mind. Er, no. Consent can be withdrawn at any point even during intercourse. Continuing beyond that is rape.

There are so many rape myths around.

differentnameforthis · 24/10/2014 10:52

Writing a book? Seriously?

It will be as thrilling as his 'speech' video.

At least it will be good for loo paper...

YonicScrewdriver · 24/10/2014 11:05

He's only writing the book if he "wins his appeal"

The fact that he hasn't even been granted leave to appeal and is on his third application for that leave seems to have escaped him.

Oh, and that the CCRC only allows 3% of requests for appeal to actually go to appeal.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/10/2014 11:05

So you may need to get some Andrex instead, different!

DonkeysDoRideBroomsticks · 24/10/2014 11:22

Title suggestion, "Look, I'm The Real Victim Here", Hmm

differentnameforthis · 24/10/2014 11:35

I'll stock up! When he doesn't win his appeal, I wonder which of his hangers on will write that book on his behalf

Perhaps his gf insert glib romance novel title here

LilAnnieAmphetamine · 24/10/2014 11:35

TiredEmma

Writing in crayon with his face very close to the page. Smile.

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 24/10/2014 11:46

And his tongue sticking out in concentration.

LeonardoAcropolis · 24/10/2014 11:46

Did anyone else see the article about the man claiming he was shot in the leg by the rapist Ched Evans, then offered money to keep quiet? I would link, but my tablet's being an arse this morning.

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 24/10/2014 11:54

Shooting article not DM

What a stand up guy!

LilAnnieAmphetamine · 24/10/2014 11:55

Ched Evans the convicted rapist is a veritable pillock of the community isn't he?

Tiredemma · 24/10/2014 12:02

LilAnnie

With his tongue sticking out at side in serious concentration.

The fucking idiot.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/10/2014 12:03

Hang on, is this another sportsman who has fired a weapon in public and later gone on to commit a serious violent crime against a woman?

PuffinsAreFicticious · 24/10/2014 12:08

I saw that, and, I might get my arse handed to me here, while its vaguely interesting as a demonstration of his shitty character, both that and the aunt's interview are immaterial in the end.

The only material evidence is what happened in that hotel room, and, by their own admission in police interviews, both men admitted that neither had asked the victim if it was ok for CE to stick his dick in her, they asked each other. What they changed their story to in court is bollocks.

I really don't understand the tweets thing either. Are the rapist's pals suggesting that once a woman has been raped that all of her subsequent actions forever more are pertaining to that rape? That they can then be introduced in some kangaroo court in order to show that rape doesn't affect every facet of a woman's life?

If so, I'd be completely fucked. Raped at 15 by a family friend, I've said some things since which could be really incriminating, you know, when I win the lottery type stuff. Are they suggesting that that means I'm unaffected and 'got myself raped' in order to get some money?
