To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

He could do talks to young people along the lines of 'i never realised that having sex with a drunk woman could be rape. I understand that now and it's important that you do too...' type of thing. They could both talk to young people about consent and respect, if only that would stop bleating on about the fact that they believe that had consensual sex that nigh

Exactly. Spot on.

AskBasil · 23/10/2014 21:30

I've met loads of Normans in my time. Loads. Met a Cheds too unfortunately, but I hope most men are Normans not Cheds.

The Cheds of the world of course, don't even know there are any Normans out there. They think all men are like them.

Everyotherfreckle · 23/10/2014 21:43

If they don't have the evidence then need after offering a £10,000 incentive, I doubt the evidence exists...

Yes exactly. On Kylie Evan's twitter there is a screenshot from about a year ago from the website of a message that someone sent. Apparently this person 'had messages which proved that this girl pre planned it all for money' but that she was too scared to come forward or some such bollocks.

It reads like total bullshit and I imagine it must be quite difficult to concoct a plan in which a man you have never met before lets himself into a hotel room completely uninvited by you, and penetrates you when you are extremely drunk, just so that you can then go to the police, claim you can't remember anything and allow them to incriminate themselves with their own evidence and just watch the money start rolling in.........

And yet, so desperate for anything to discredit a rape victim, Kylie Evans retweeted this screenshot, which also says that if this person is too frightened to speak to the private investigator, they can speak to a trained counsellor who will 'talk to you in complete confidence and none (sic) judgementally' (hahahahahahahana).

I assume that as this was a year ago, it turned out to be nothing. I mean, surely with all these gold diggers around, if there was any evidence one of them would have found something to get their hands on that cash?

Itsfab Shock Actually, no I am not surprised one little bit.

Also I missed the poster that phaedra has quoted above, but I agree that is spot on.

CrotchMaven · 23/10/2014 21:54

I think many people don't realise how little some men think of women that are not closely known to them.

There are women that are almost people, because they are related to them or have aligned themselves to them, and there are others. Is this how those men see other men?

CrotchMaven · 23/10/2014 21:57

Oh, and isn't it scary how far some people will go to protect those that risk harming other people? And how impotent our laws are in protecting those at harm?

Thefishewife · 23/10/2014 21:59

Because a lot of people however shit you may think it is don't believe he raped her his girlfriend clearly didn't

Ohmygrood · 23/10/2014 22:04

Thefishewife - she went back to a hotel room with one man. That man was acquitted.

The others diverted their taxi and then lied their way into that room/stood outside filming.

Ohmygrood · 23/10/2014 22:21

I don't think you'd be very good at scrabble fishewife

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 23/10/2014 22:21

Such a good point. If she was going to plan and execute a money-spinning false rape accusation she did a pretty poor job - what with not remembering anything/not actually accusing anyone.

No have dyslexia doesn't allow for good scrabble play

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 23/10/2014 22:25

For you, then fishewife. Have a read.

AskBasil · 23/10/2014 22:27

Thefishwife, are you urging all women to assume that all men are rapists and that we should not go anywhere with them unless we're willing to risk them raping us?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 23/10/2014 22:27

fishwife both men were footballers, she went up to the room with one, and then Ched Evans came in later and raped her.

The money making thing is hilarious, rape isn't exactly a lucrative business for women.

Thefishewife · 23/10/2014 22:29

Ahhh I see now he took her in then his goons filmed outside I read that all three men were in the room but only chad actually had sex with her

That's for the link

Thefishewife · 23/10/2014 22:29

Thanks I mean
