To be totally baffled (Ched Evans related)

Just reading in the guardian that Ched Evans has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to review his case. That's fine because it is part of our due process and legal system.

However, in the article it points out that his girlfriend's father is paying for appeal barristers, private detectives and even offering a reward for information in order to help his appeal. Why would you do that? Why would you put up so much money to protect a person who at best (from their perspective at least) cheated on your daughter in a rather deplorable fashion and at worst a rapist? Why would got want your daughter to be with such a person?

I really don't understand.

I'll see if I can get the link to work.

"Evans must have been too drunk to rape her because he'd been drinking too."

Eh? She doesn't accept that someone stumbling about and losing her bag, then waking up covered in urine with no memory might be more drunk than someone coherently directing a taxi and convincing hotel staff to give him a key, then selecting a more discreet exit and walking home?

NoMarymary · 23/10/2014 13:59

I was disgusted that McDonald got off with this. After all he effectively procured this woman for sex for CE. Surely there is a law somewhere against this?

NoMarymary · 23/10/2014 14:01

All the men involved were disgusting pieces of shit imo.

chaya5738 · 23/10/2014 14:03

'Yes, inconsistent verdict could cut both ways. However, on appeal it could only work in Evans' favour which would be why his legal team tried that argument'

Yes, I know that PRH. I am a lawyer too have have worked in criminal law too actually and know a bit about miscarriage of justice. I am beginning to find your posts quite irritating - you don't have to step in whenever anyone say anything with some sort of authoritative statement from on high in response.

YonicScrewdriver · 23/10/2014 14:04

NoMary, hello again.

Yes, CM could possibly have been charged with conspiracy to rape or something similar but the CPS probably felt a rape charge was more likely to stick. Also, the evidence that he expected CE to come to the room might well have been hard to prove.

newpencilcase · 23/10/2014 14:16

That was my blog post that someone shared - thank you Thanks

I also can't believe the reaction of some people and why they just don't get it. Actually I can, but it makes me incredibly sad.

AliceLidaaagggghhhhhl · 23/10/2014 14:19

No Yonic apparently she doesn't.

And unfortunately, she doesn't seem to be the only one.

CE came up as trending last night on Facebook and I made the mistake of following the link. Lots of public profiles and pages filled with people saying exactly the same things as her, including that one. Both drunk so why is he the one expected to control himself and take the blame?

NoMarymary · 23/10/2014 14:24

With the rape charge and McDonald I suppose you could say there was reasonable doubt as she went into the hotel willingly (obviously what the jury did think Sad ). But an additional charge of procurement could have been supported with the text message and the fact it was CE who booked the room. I bet the jurors were uncomfortable with the not guilty verdict for him and could well have opted for the lesser charge (if it had been offered) though the cps could have left it off for precisely that reason!

YonicScrewdriver · 23/10/2014 14:25

Conspiracy to rape is not a lesser charge.

DuelingFanjo · 23/10/2014 14:26

Was CE drunk?

AliceLidaaagggghhhhhl · 23/10/2014 14:31

People appear to think so Dueling.

I have no idea, but he was sober enough to manage all the things Yonic mentioned so I assume he wasn't as drunk as his victim was when he raped her.

fromparistoberlin73 · 23/10/2014 14:36

this whole case makes me feel sad and sick

why the fuck would that girl go through the whole prosecution /court case if she had "drunkenly enjoyed" some drinken rumpey pumpey with a premiership footballer.

I could cry when I think of how fucked her life is

this is such a dark and depressing tale

Yes, exactly this. Why? Why, why, why, why, why, why, WHY would she put herself through such hell if it really had just been an evening of consensual sex? This is a question that Ched Evans supporters seem to have no sensible answer to.

Also worth pointing out that Ched Evans was definitely not a premiership footballer. Smile

I didn't think that's what I was doing. Sorry.

BrokenButNotFinished · 23/10/2014 15:43

I've only just realised what else went on that evening: the police were involved over another incident; CE 'had to' step over the fallen body of the victim when he first met her in the kebab shop (what a gent!); neither man appears to have ejaculated...

Quite aside from a serious crime being committed, it all sounds like a pitifully joyless evening was had in Rhyl...

Everyotherfreckle · 23/10/2014 16:01

Yes, quite, broken!

Actually I think it is quite telling that neither of them ejaculated - is it because she was being such a 'crap shag' perchance?!

BrokenButNotFinished · 23/10/2014 16:05

Quite!

And I've gleaned this from his own (supporters') website. God help him, if he was trying to appear blameless or anything... Confused

Everyotherfreckle · 23/10/2014 16:15

The more I look at that website, the more I think the people around him plate either incredibly dumb themselves, or think the public are as thick as shit.

The prosecution portrayed Ched and Clayton McDonald as two sexual predators out on the prowl and looking for a victim. At 3am in the morning, Ched was throwing chips to the seagulls, hardly a predator on the prowl

Yes, but its what he did after the seagull feeding that the prosecution are calling predatory you dumb fucks Indeed, if you looked up the word 'predator' in the dictionary, there would probably be a little video of Ched Evans receiving a text from his friends telling him he has a bird, diverting his taxi to his friends hotel, lying to get a key and then letting himself into the room completely, knowing that a girl who he had never met before would probably be having sex in there, and then 'having a go' on her himself.

And all because, apparently Ched was curious as to who the girl with Clayton was and he wanted to find out.

Say WHAT now?!

And people are lapping this shit up, it's bizarre!

Everyotherfreckle · 23/10/2014 16:17

I don't know how the word 'completely' snuck its way into my post, I assume he didn't partially enter the room.....

Amethyst24 · 23/10/2014 16:22

I kind of imagined that neither of them ejaculated because she brought proceedings to a premature halt by being sick, but I could be wrong.

DuelingFanjo · 23/10/2014 16:40

this news report may explain why the Jury found Clayton McDonald more believable.

Mumraathenoisylion · 23/10/2014 16:51

....or that she was unconscious so they couldn't ask her about birth control Amethyst

DuelingFanjo · 23/10/2014 16:53

he does not come over at all well in this report
