I've just watched the episode of Sex and The City where she was shouting at Charlotte to give her the money to buy her apartment because she was broke as she'd spent 40k on shoes! Shock

She isn't too nice really, is she?!

Oh I see, One!

SJP has had aong stage career (and was excellent in Hocus Pocus), so agree it is inaccurate to say she can't act.

I was a big SATC fan, it started when I was 18 so just starting to have a social life / get out and about in London. Loved the glamour, the feisty attitudes, the different personalities of the characters.

However Carrie was a selfish, narcissistic cow-bag and I remember thinking that even then? Not sure how intentional it was to write the character like that??

When I watch episodes these days (and I have seen every episode several times) I do think its very dated and cliched though.

Carrie is still a completely selfish bitch though!

Agree with you with regards to never revisiting it, Onedrop. Unless they want to do a scene of the four of them on water skis jumping over a shark.

Jules2 · 21/10/2014 12:28

I liked Sex and the City but never understood why Carrie was supposed to be the central character - although early on you're told that she's the one who brings the others together. She was self obsessed, fickle and, let's be honest, not exactly a literary icon (although she must have been paid bucket loads of dosh per article to afford all those daft designer shoes). Charlotte didn't work much but you got the sense that Miranda and Samantha did earn their money. Most of all, it was Carrie's thin, bandy legs that annoyed me!!

LittleBearPad · 21/10/2014 12:41

Am I alone in wishing there isn't a third movie. The first was ok, the second was dire. What is there to do in a third except have Carrie and Big have another wobble which frankly I can't be bothered with. There's nowhere for these characters to go.

Because she wrote the column and the series was based primarily on the articles she wrote?

GatoradeMeBitch · 21/10/2014 13:14

They treated Miranda horribly - all that carry-on over Big ditching Carrie on their wedding day (even though he was coming back and the guests would have been none the wiser) yet they all acted as if Miranda was unreasonable to leave Steve, that it was her fault for being a career woman, and she'd never do any better. She really needed better friends!

LittleBearPad · 21/10/2014 13:34

I never understood how Miranda put up with Carrie. She would have worked stupid hours as a Manhattan lawyer. Carrie largely fannied about writing a column a week and having existential crises every two minutes.

nevergoogle · 21/10/2014 13:42

When I was in my 20s I lived in NYC. A friend of mine was dating Aiden. Well the actor. I also had lots of sex and bought shoes.

YY, Carrie suddenly became rich after getting a book deal and it seemed really random after writing one weekly column in a tabloid and struggling at freelance work for Vogue. Miranda tells her boss in one episode that she needed to cut her hours "way back"... to 50 a week. They had totally different lifestyles.

And...?
We want the dirt.

nevergoogle · 21/10/2014 17:54

haha, I don't remember any dirt i'm afraid. a thoroughly nice chap iirc.

so so sorry. Blush

Onedropoflove · 21/10/2014 18:49

Isn't he married to Bo Dereck?

anonacfr · 21/10/2014 20:04

They're definitely together I don't know if they are married.

I used to fancy him so much in Northern Exposure but Aidan was such an awful character. He was so one dimensional and 'anti-Big'.

I still watch SATC but can't stand Carrie. What makes her particularly annoying is the way the others keep worshipping the ground she walks on. Speaking of prude and judgemental how horrible was she to Samantha after she caught her giving the UPS guy a blowjob?

I still can't get over the fact that she got to hold Brady before HIS FUCKING MOTHER did. If I'd been Miranda I would have jumped out of bed and rugby tackled that infant out of her arms.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/10/2014 20:25

I have a burning question about Brady.

Well, his name is Brady, which is Steve's surname, Brady was Brady Hobbs at birth. Then Miranda married Steve. Did she take his name? Did Brady become Brady Brady?

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 21/10/2014 20:30

Of course she didn't take his name! Miranda would NEVER do that.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/10/2014 20:39

Miranda wasn't keen on getting married or having children and managed to do both!

Glad she kept her good sense about her. Imagine being Brady Brady.

tribpot · 21/10/2014 22:34

More likely Steve changed his name to Miranda's than vice versa!
