to think that Carrie Bradshaw was a terrible friend?!

I've just watched the episode of Sex and The City where she was shouting at Charlotte to give her the money to buy her apartment because she was broke as she'd spent 40k on shoes! Shock

She isn't too nice really, is she?!

Miranda's doctor wasn't mean or weak, was he? She treated him really badly I thought.

I've been watching since I was a teen and always preferred Miranda. Think I had a bit of a girl crush on her, especially when she changed her hair in series 5 (shallow).

Carrie is a self-obsessed, irresponsible teenager and I have always wondered how she had friends willing to stick by her drama.

I was always jealous of the 'friendship group' thing - thought it would be so nice to have a gang of girlfriends to meet up with, rather than several separate friendships. Now I'm older I think it would lead to the potential for bitchiness and people falling out with each other though.

And I loved Aidan (except for the belly-rubbing thing) and Harry and Miranda's lovely, sexy doctor. I didn't find Smith very sexy (too many muscles) but he was a sweetie.

And Charlotte came across as such a prude - always made me wonder how she could bear to listen to the others talking.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 10:22

generic he was...when the relationship was over, he talked really nastily to her in the lift I think it was....totally unlike the way he'd acted before.

Lweji · 17/10/2014 10:23

Blair underwood (dr Robert) I've had a crush on since he was in LA Law

Me too.

HermioneWeasley · 17/10/2014 10:23

If I knew anyone as awful as carrie I think I would drown them.

Captainbarnacles1101 · 17/10/2014 10:28

Oh LA Law! I loved Blair Underwood in that. Yum. Blast from past. Wonder can I watch la law reruns anywhere????

proseccofiend · 17/10/2014 10:35

It infuriated me when she mooched around Paris miserably after about a day. I mean, I know Petrovsky was being a shit to her but...It's Paris for god's sake!

nikki1978 · 17/10/2014 10:46

I loved Sex and the City but yes I do find Carrie very annoying watching her now. She is like a teenage girl in an adults body with all the drama with men. And although Big is a bit of a shit she is so needy and annoying with him.

Their wedding is all about what she wants. I'm not surprised he jilted her when he turned up and she was wearing that horrendous Vivienne Westwood dress with the bird in her hair. I would have run away screaming.

I like Miranda and Charlotte, love Harry and Steve. Samantha is ok but I get a bit bored of her loudness and "I'm such a strong independant woman" talk all the time. The feminism in the film does sometimes come across a bit man hating which spoils it I think.

micah · 17/10/2014 10:47

I never watched it originally. I've just downloaded the box sets though and am working my way through.

I'm up to series 4 and had to give up. It's just not enjoyable at all. The one with the man who wasn't circumcised did it for me. Charlotte was actually going to dump him so he decided to circumcise, because of women's reactions.

It's just crap.

Bluetone · 17/10/2014 10:53

The early episodes are really cringe.

Just trying to remember the episode Miranda calls Carrie to tell her her mum died. Did Carrie go to her then? Trying to think of nice things she done as a friend Grin

The one with Miranda breast feeding and she was really struggling. Carrie just sitting there mortified because she could see her nipple. Then just gets up and leaves. You'd make your friend a cuppa and try and help.

BrendaBlackhead · 17/10/2014 11:04

Oh, I don't know - I guess friends aren't perfect. I did indeed have the "friend" who when I breastfed ds turned her chair round the other way and then proceeded to talk with her back to me about how she would never get sucked into boring domesticity. It was all so embarrassing.

Anyway, yes, for me one of the worst bits was asking Charlotte for money. Perhaps we British are more restrained in that regard. People I know in the US and my relatives in Europe don't seem to be so freaked out by asking better off friends and family to sub them. Unless it was truly a matter of life or death I would never ask anyone for 50p.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 11:05

Carry was a massive prude.

She almost died when she farted and couldn't cope with someone else's tit but expected Samantha to hook her diaphragm out for her!

idlefolly · 17/10/2014 11:06

That squeal she does ConfusedAngry

I like Miranda but can't bear the way she eats with her mouth open and talks with her mouth full (pet hate).

Carrie is a total knob.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 11:10

Oh Miranda's eating! Angry All she bastard did was chew and talk. Wound me up terribly! I think the actress did it as a character choice but it was a BAD ONE.

differentnameforthis · 17/10/2014 11:14

Bluetone, do you remember when Miranda hurt her neck & was naked on the bathroom floor? She called Carrie & she sent Aiden!!

squoosh · 17/10/2014 11:14

I don't buy the Charlotte was a prude thing at all. She got up to as much filth as the rest of them.

petswinprizes · 17/10/2014 11:18

I've almost finished watching most of them for the first time - I've seen the occasional episode, but hadn't realised that there was so many. It's fab tv - absolute mind-numbing crassness, but I like that. Nothing ever really goes bad, it's all singy songy American bland, and makes for a nice half hour of escapism. Have also been sky+ ing the second series of Band of Gold (watched the first one a few weeks ago). The contrast is amazing - there used to be a huge difference in the quality of UK v USA programmes, not so much anymore - I blame Carrie Bradshaw et al for the mindless drivel produced here now.

Bluetone · 17/10/2014 11:28

differentname That's right! How bloody humiliating. I can't remember why she sent him, probably shoe shopping Shock

differentnameforthis · 17/10/2014 11:41

I can't either...I forgot about it, but saw the clip on youtube.

WorldAltlas · 17/10/2014 11:50

I loved Carrie, am I the only one?

squoosh · 17/10/2014 11:51

I quite like Carrie too.

People have a much harder time liking flawed female characters than male.

riverboat1 · 17/10/2014 11:57

Carrie was definitely my least favourite. Sanantha and Charlotte were both up front about who they were and their negative character traits, Carrie tried to make hers all cutesy which I can't stand.

A lot of the show was ridiculous but there were nuggets of truth and observations that really made it great, IMO, and it was pretty funny at times.

I think the Paris storyline made total sense and was believable, just way too rushed. It should have taken her a few months to get to that point, not a few days!

Harry is definitely my favourite of the men. Agree with poster up thread who said they found Steve offputting somehow.

Bluetone · 17/10/2014 12:03

I liked her at times. She did give some good advice to her friends. Like on Charlottes wedding day when everything was going wrong.

I think my favourite episode was when she was asked to walk the catwalk and fell on her face!

Bambambini · 17/10/2014 12:28

Fashion Roadkill! I laugh my head off every time I see that with HK just stepping over her. Might be my favourite moment.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 12:43

No I also liked her in general. I found Miranda MUCH harder to deal with. She was so bloody awkward!

RoseTheHat · 17/10/2014 12:48

Oh no - the best man is Mr Big ....come on, he's heaven!! I don't blame him for the Carrie stuff, she was bonkers as conkers

I don't really mind Carrie though - she was a dick with all the cutesy character flaws that were supposed to be adorable (i'm sure she refers to herself as adorable on more than one occasion!?) - but I always thought we were rooting for her to sort herself out and get therapy or something!

Off topic - my favourite imperfect female lead at the moment is Mindy, I love her, so funny Grin
