to think that Carrie Bradshaw was a terrible friend?!

I've just watched the episode of Sex and The City where she was shouting at Charlotte to give her the money to buy her apartment because she was broke as she'd spent 40k on shoes! Shock

She isn't too nice really, is she?!

I liked Samantha but her constant purring and minxing about sometimes annoyed me.

Miranda bothered me. She just seemed too snarky and harsh.

Charlotte was too goody-two-shoes and, yet, just as slutty as the others! (Actually, I like that about her.)

Carrie annoys the ever-lovin' out of most people, I think. I think she's a character that is sort of like George Costanza on Seinfeld: just a walking, talking embodiment of everyone's inner selfish brat. Only, Seinfeld was ridiculous comedy so you could enjoy George's ridiculous antics.

Chandon · 17/10/2014 13:13

Charlotte was not a prude.

there was an episode about anal sex, where she was the only bemused one saying:"surely everyone does it, don't they?" and is very calm whilst the others are all shocked.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 13:16

No Carrie was the biggest prude.

cerealqueen · 17/10/2014 14:02

Can you imagine Carrie posting on here about Big?
We'd all be telling she's too needy and he's just not that into her!

I remember when Miranda slipped in the bath and she sent Aiden, then was freaking about their relationship over the Bullshit Bagels, she apologised for it all being about her, then carried on, just talking about herself.

Yes but Chandon, didn't she also say she didn't want to be the 'up the butt' girl when they all had a that discussion in the taxi!

MrsMarcJacobs · 17/10/2014 15:31

Captainbarnacles1101 there are episodes of LA Law on youtube.

Captainbarnacles1101 · 17/10/2014 15:34

Thank you MrsMarcJacobs xx

Lweji · 17/10/2014 17:04

Just remembered that SJP was also in LA Law!

makemineabacardi · 17/10/2014 17:56

Charlotte doesn't say she does anal with Trey but that she does lick his arsehole as 'we're married'. Why that's better in Charlotte-world is beyond me. Confused

riverboat1 · 17/10/2014 18:15

Yet if I remember Charlotte also didn't like giving or receiving oral sex!

I love that she and Harry had the best sex she'd ever had, and that she was shocked when she heard Miranda and Steve weren't having sex any more, as she and Harry always did it 3 times a week even after kids.

The contradictions of Charlotte ate what made that character. Remember that episode when she got fed up with Samantha and tried being friends with a group of prudish girls, only to end up realising in that group SHE was the Samantha? I loved that.

Its a shame we didn't get to see more of the in term friendships between the 4 outside their relationships with Carrie.

makemineabacardi · 17/10/2014 18:25

Yeah the relationships of the other 3 were always more interesting without Carrie around and there wasn't enough of that.

Brady's christening always made me sad - Charlotte was having a tough time and was desperate to do it when Miranda gave the job to Carrie (who thought it was silly anyway) because they were 'best friends'. I always wanted to shout at the telly "so what about your other best friends????". But then I had ishoos with Miranda having a christening anyway when she was so scathing about them.

Onedropoflove · 17/10/2014 21:49

Miranda and Magda were brilliant together. And the story line with the alzimers was well done. And the breast cancer was a good storyline. I just wished Carrie had ended up happy and alone. I liked big but it was tied up too neatly.

Fairywhitebear · 18/10/2014 15:49

I had a friend who was like Carrie. Notice the word 'had' Grin

LittleBearPad · 18/10/2014 17:33

She would have been exhausting as a friend. Miranda and Charlotte were my favourites

Fabulassie · 19/10/2014 08:37

Samantha would have been the most fun as a friend.

tribpot · 19/10/2014 10:44

Don't forget the time Carrie couldn't be arsed joining them for lunch (the sacred tradition) because she was uptown at Petrovsky's apartment and it was snowing. Admittedly I won't step foot outside when it's snowing but Miranda had schlepped in from Brooklyn if I recall.

The relationships between the other three were much more interesting. A Carrie-free episode would have been fantastic, not least because the other three are also better actors, in my opinion. In fact the scene when she's just phoned to announce she won't be joining them for lunch would have been a classic.

Harry was definitely the best, followed by Steve. And Smith was a really great guy too.

Didn't Miranda have to buy Carrie a mobile specially to be on call for being her birth partner? And Carrie made out like she didn't know how it worked blah blah blah. I'm pretty sure Miranda at least would have just got pissed off with how flaky and useless a friend Carrie was and dumped her sorry arse years ago.

Fabulassie · 19/10/2014 10:54

I thought the bit of the birth scene where Miranda said, "Carrie!" and gripper her hand while staring into her eyes while making the final push was unrealistic. Assuming my births were at all typical, I was barely capable of human communication at that stage in the proceedings.

Onedropoflove · 19/10/2014 11:28

SJP has great comic timing. I think she's underrated as an actress. She does a lot of stage work. What have the others done since?

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/10/2014 11:39

One nobody was criticising SJP Hmm

Nancy66 · 19/10/2014 11:43

The whole premise of the show was totally unbelievable. Those four women would never be friends in real life.

Carrie and Samantha would probably be friends but that's about it.

tribpot · 19/10/2014 11:49

Well Nixon was nominated for a Tony for a Broadway performance a couple of years ago. Kristin Davis is an Oxfam ambassador and I read on Wiki recently starred in the West End in a production of Fatal Attraction, which seems all wrong somehow Grin. Cattrall also appears to have been on the stage recently - Broadway then the Old Vic.

As a complete aside, Nixon also had an incredible story on the US version of Who Do You Think You Are, very powerful stuff.

In fairness to SJP, it might be nice if they'd ever really given Carrie a meaty storyline to carry. Charlotte had infertility to deal with, Samantha cancer and Nixon was amazing in the Alzheimer's storyline. The worst thing I can think of that Carrie had to deal with was cheating on Aiden with Big. Boo hoo.

tribpot · 19/10/2014 11:50

Alisvolatpropiis, I thought One's comment was in response to mine about the other three being better actors. No-one thinks SJP is a self-obsessed ninny just because Carrie is :)

tribpot · 19/10/2014 11:54

Btw for anyone who is interested:

AlleyCat11 · 19/10/2014 12:05

I regard it as a show of it's time. Very noughties, as Friends was very 90s. I watched SATC in my 20s when I lived in London in house shares with other party girls. We loved it. It wouldn't make any sense to me now though... The thing about Carrie though, is that I hate that she got the walk-in wardrobe & Manolos from Big. Disney princesses are more self sufficient than her...

Onedropoflove · 19/10/2014 12:08

A Carrie-free episode would have been fantastic, not least because the other three are also better actors, in my opinion.

That's what I was replying to.

I never got the Carrie love either but I do think SJP can act.

I just hope they never, ever revisit it. It all went wrong from the time The Russian came into it.

Onedropoflove · 19/10/2014 12:11

I never saw the Nixon Who do you think you are? but I adored the Kim Cattrall one I love how she slips between accents. I've heard she's very lovely in real life too unlike one of the others
